Honestly, I'm still kind of in shock over my experience with Dr. Patel, and frankly, I'm just disgusted. The dental work itself was honestly pretty bad, and it really looks like she has no clue what she's doing or even how to run a dental office. Her attitude was even worse. The times I was there, I overhear her being incredibly rude and actually body shaming people just totally unprofessional comments that no doctor should ever be making. On top of that, the vibe in the office is just... off. It felt like there was a lot of weird, biased energy depending on who she was talking to, and it definitely came across as racist. It's hard to trust a dentist when they're being that disrespectful and judgmental. I didn't feel welcome or comfortable at all. Do yourself a favor and find a different office where people actually treat you like a human being. read more

I'm doing this review for my mom. She's been going here and has had the same insurance for 20+ years. They were charging her an 80/20 for her entire mouth. Implants, temp dentures, etc. She FINALLY went to a new office where they informed her, and with the SAME insurance, that her whole mouth would be 100% covered! I've always disliked this office. Now this gives me more disdain towards them. I do have to say though that the staff, and assistants are awesome. The dentist, not so much. She's very moody and will talk down to you with no regard for her tone and volume to where the other patients can hear. read more

After seeing her response to my previous review I wish I could give negative stars. I have spent over 1000 dollars out of pocket here. Yes I have blue shield insurance, which covers a lot. But my mom paid around $600 out of pocket for my braces... and after I got them removed I paid over $500 for the pack of retainers. So you should probably recheck your files because yes I have spent money out of pocket there. Calling me immature over a negative review really just shows your maturity and ego. You should probably learn to take negative criticism better. I don't need to call, or hear from you. After reading other reviews it is clear to me that you are very professional. read more

When Dr Simms sold the place it went downhill fast. The put up cameras inside pointed at the workers and told them is was for their safety yet none pointed at the door or parking lot and nobody was inside watching the monitors. The doctors left in droves. I followed my dentist elsewhere. The new owner failed so hard that they sold the building that had rooms for twenty dentists and moved to a tiny location up the road. When Drs Sakai, Simms, and Sugiami owned the place it was great, I went there for 45 years, I go elsewhere. I wanted to write this review and let everyone know what great care I received from Harbor Dental Associates and Dr Patel and staff. I was having a tooth ache and walked in without an appointment near closing. Dr Patel added me on to her full scheduled and diagnosed me with an infection abcess. I was started on antibiotics and Dr Patel added me on her already full schedule for a root canal the next day. She did an amazing pain free and complete procedure. All with a warm compassionate and professional manner. After hours, at 7:30 PM on the day of the procedure I was having some discharge from the gum at the root canal. I called to check on it. And I was amazed that Dr Patel answered the phone. She reassured me and by the AM all was good. Thank you Dr Patel and staff. You did a great job. read more

My family and I have been going to this dental practice for 10 years , Me being a woman and a mother, I have quite a bit of wear and tear on my mouth due to calcium issues. From the moment I walk in, Vicki always takes care of me and my family; Vicki is very professional and caring. Marissa She by far, has the hardest job of all when I come to see the dentist because of my ANXIETY. Doctor patel and Doctor Law are both incredible dentists very kind; very patient and the reason I still have teeth to be very honest. I highly recommend this office and all their staff ! NOT recommended . Went for an appointment after a few years away and they tried to cheat me out of my covered insurance . Billing lady told me they only cover 50% of everything including a basic cleaning. I went home to look at my insurance and come to find out I'm covered for 100% on cleanings and 70% on crowns not 50% as she so clearly states. Dr Patel sold me since I'm in so much pain she's going to clean my teeth for free even though she shouldn't be and she could get in trouble , I was in no pain and wasn't trying to get free service. She told me I had a cavity and a cracked tooth but going over the treatment never said how to fix the tooth just but a crown over it and couldn't show me on the X-ray the cracked tooth so basically tape the crack not fix it. She talked to you as if you are a child and don't understand what's going on and makes you feel like a bad person for coming to get your teeth checked. Well that's why your a dentist right so people can come to you? She is very rude and horrible bedside manor and also makes you feel stupid for gagging taking X-rays sorry not all of us can do it flawlessly. They also try to tack on hidden fees for example k went for a routine cleaning before Covid and I asked if it was covered she said yes and proceeded to clean. Making my next appointment to my surprise I was told I owe money? I asked for what and they told me what the dentist did that I never agreed too and she never mentioned . So be careful in doing to this place . It was great under Dr sims and he was so very nice and caring nor money hungry like this new owner . Edit --- 8/10/2022 In response to Chris p ya you have been working with my insurance for decades yet the new business isn't good . Under Dr sims it was great and they explained everything and didn't do treatment without your approval or sneak in something you never asked for during cleanings. I stopped coming in 2019 not because of Covid you guys gave me a routine cleaning that was suppose to be covered because I asked and then making a new appointment at the front they charged me $20 for something I never agreed too.i was not having a bad day as you so imply, it was great I had an amazing day off and I was getting my teeth checked . If you don't want "I'll posted reviews" maybe don't have horrible customer service and try and cheat people. I went back 2 days later for my X-rays to be transferred to another much better dental office and the billing lady proceeded to attack me for basically wanting to leave because she was going to charge me wrong and I questioned it and looked into it. My family was been coming to this facility for over forty years when it was still under the Dr's Sugiyama Simms and Simmons. I have left years ago but my parents continued to come here because that's where the ILWU Plan they had had a contract with. It's been a while since the Dr's have all retired and left. My mother was (keyword) under the care of Dr Patel the past several years and Dr. Patel suggested getting some dental implants done. At the time I was not living in the US and since English is my mother's second language I had Dr. Patel call me abroad (she was not charged for the calls). She was nice at the beginning and I trusted her completely. But as time went on and I questioned anything about the procedures my mother was going to receive I felt she was a little annoyed with me. My mother ended up having a pretty evasive implant procedure done on her front teeth. I believe Dr Patel is the only resident general dentist there and other dentists come in on a needed basis. There were several times I've taken my mother there and Dr Patel would be working on other patients in between seeing my mother instead on dedicating all her time to one patient's appointment time. The front teeth implant service my mother had done probably should have been done under sedation in my opinion. My mother does not complain but she said it was very hard on her (she's in her early 80's) which made me feel awful. There was another time when my mother told me she was going to have a cavity filled so I didn't accompany her to the appointment. The next thing I knew I got a call from someone at the front desk first saying her tooth was going to be pulled. Wait. What? I told the girl who called that this appointment was suppose to be a routine cavity filling. Then she told me it was going to be a root canal. What? Which is it? There's a big difference here. If this is a root canal, it should have been done by an endodontist. Then she told me it was going to be a filling. I'm confused! When I saw my mother later that afternoon she said the appointment took a very long time and it was a hard appointment for her again. I was starting to feel uncomfortable so I called up my mother's plan office and changed her insurance plan so we can choose who we want to go to and not back to Dr. Patel. I was just not comfortable taking her there anymore. Let me mention that the facility is dated and rundown (don't let the pictures on their website fool you. Those pictures are NOT what the offices look like). The equipment and the fixtures look the same as when I went there as a child. I don't know when the walls have been painted because the paint is chipping right off which can't be good for a place where things are sterilized. The small 1970's children's chairs with the green vinyl flat pads that I sat on when I was a child are still there in the rooms. I didn't see any plastic coverings on the hand lights or equipment the dentists or hygienist's use, etc. I just didn't feel things were hygienically clean. It's sad to see how once this place where you had to make your teeth cleaning appointment before you left, the waiting areas once was buzzing with lots of patients, the front desk area was full of happy employees is no more and is so quiet. By the way, that "cavity filling"? When I took her to the new implant specialist, it was a root canal that was done. Oh! And that tooth cracked in half. The front teeth that she made implants for broke in two places while she was on holiday abroad last year! How about that? Nothing better than being on a holiday and that happens! It gets better, it happened AGAIN a couple of weeks ago when she was abroad AGAIN! Why it hasn't been replaced is because the new implant specialist is working on her still. BTW, three dentists asked me why they were made out of what looks like plastic when it should have been made out of porcelain. I've emailed Dr. Patel SEVERAL times (at least seven) asking her what the component of the crowns of the implants she's placed in my mother's mouth and she won't respond. She told Arlyn at the front desk to tell me it's made out of porcelain. I've told Arlyn I wanted her to reply to my emails and Aryln's exact words were "Dr. Patel doesn't have to reply to your emails because your mom is not a patient of Dr. Patel's". I've had THREE dentists tell me that the implant crowns are NOT made of porcelain like they should be. I've paid THOUSANDS of dollars only to have another specialist redo the poor quality work that was done at this office. Every time my mother went in she was told to have more implants done. Money, money, money is their concern in my opinion and obviously another review mentioned the same. I would not bring a loved one here. read more

Today my husband and I went for a dental cleaning. Rita, the dental hygienist, did a fabulous job for both of us. She was so professional, patient, gentle and detail oriented. She patiently listened to my questions and explained to me on how to take care my gum and teeth. She treated each of my teeth like a baby; After the cleaning, I feel that I have a new set of teeth --fresh and clean. I hope she continues to work this way. I highly recommend her to other patients. After one year, they called us that insurance did not approve and they want us to pay all the amount. They mislead their customers just to get money from clients. Although I've been casually using Yelp for a few years, it's only been for the benefit of reading other reviews. So this will be a first for me as I obviously don't take the time to write these things. I've been coming to Harbor Dental for 13 years to get various work done on my teeth including normal scheduled teeth cleaning. Most of my life I've been chronic grinder of my teeth and now I'm reaping the damage that it has caused in the form of fractures to many of my teeth which now results in a lot of work required to fix them, such as crowns and root canals and in some cases extractions then implants. They take care of all very well right here. Everyone here at Harbor Dental has been very accommodating to me, (within reason of coarse) whether it be from scheduling/ rescheduling appointments, to accepting and treating me in some emergency cases, and I've had a few! Although I've seen many Dentists come and go from here over the years, some good and some not so in my opinion from personal experience, I believe the staff here now provides a very personalized service. Dr Patel is very knowledgeable, conscientious and passionate about what she does and for me that goes along way. Again, from my personal experience, she has always gone above and beyond when it comes to making sure my teeth are back in good working shape@! She is someone who actually cares about what's best for you and will make sure you are comfortable NO MATTER WHAT your situation is. Of coarse I can't say enough about Wei Ni Huang as she's been cleaning my teeth for many years. I am very partial to having her take care my cleaning as she is also very conscientious, and passionate about her work and will take great care of you and make sure your experience is as pleasant and as personable as possible. I've been bringing myself and my daughters here for more than 13 years. It's always been a clean place, clean bathrooms, with a nice staff. Everybody is very friendly. And the Owners and Doctors are very personable. Good people. Appointments, rescheduling, no problem. And they have Tv's and lots of Magazines in the waiting room to pass the time if you need that. I go here primarily for the Orthodontists. Dr. Eckhart works this office, and he is a professional. Courtesy, knowledge in his craft, and straight with you. I remember him telling me, "look if you want Invisalign, there are orthodontists out there who will get you Invisalign. But if you want results, you'll need metal braces with elastic bands." (I wanted Invisalign if that wasn't obvious). But I appreciated this, because I'm currently 10 months into wearing my braces, and results are showing. They also helped me finance with the insurance companies. I'd just say make sure you know how your dental insurance works for orthodontics prior to making your visit. The orthodontics staff is real nice too. Easy to talk to, schedule appointments, etc. Just know the Ortho staff works in other buildings, so they're not always there. If you gotta schedule an appointment though, the front desk will do it for you. Highly recommended! read more

It was time for the stich removal!! Painless & quick...nothing to it. Dr. Ehrhardt is the coolest! I wanted to add that the staff here cannot be any nicer. They greet everyone that comes in with a smile, lead you through the facility and not just point in the direction you should go & they give reminder calls a couple days ahead to confirm your appointment. total butcher shop please advise you to go somewhere else. Not only can they not keep a dentist for longer than a couple weeks or a month, the practice is literally a joke. I went in for simple bonding between two teeth and she butchered them so bad that all ate front of my teeth had to be drill down and capped. During the visit which I've known her for a while now admitting she was going through problems and was crying, but didn't really think much of it at the time. well turns out she was high as a kite and went up having a seizure before she even got to finish destroying my teeth. I walked out of there and went to another dentist office, and they actually wanted to know who did that because they have never seen somebody butcher somebody's teeth like that in their life Harbor dental knew for months maybe even years that she was getting high and destroying peoples teeth but yet continued to let her work and not tell anybody. She is no longer at the office due to sabbatical, but is being sued by multiple people including me and I will also be suing Harper dental, especially Michele who covered up everything!!! read more

i took my daughter and she had a tooth extraction she got a fever of 101 a few hours after procedure ,dr patel called me when she was not even the doctor that seen her when i mentioned giving her antibiotics in case it was an infection that was caused by tooth extraction she told me it's up to you if you want to over medicate your daughter what kind of a doctor tells a parent that ?! she also gave me false information and said my daughter had a small infection present when tooth was removed how did she know this? i have no idea because after speaking to the doctor that actually extracted the tooth they made it clear no infection was present before extraction! my concern was an infection this doctors a idiot ! read more

My family was going here for years when it was Simms and Simmon. After the new ownership took over it got worse. I was kind of stuck there because my son was in the middle of Orthodontic work. So we continued there, they went through Orthodontist like every few months, and seemed to get the older washed up Orthos. Also my son needed a procedure and the Orthodontist told him if he didn't do it he would never get a girlfriend. I couldn't believe it! The Ortho's also have numerous patients laying there and work on them simultaneously. I myself got some invisalign through them terrible! Messed my reorders up a couple of times and after I paid my Bill. They said I was done but I wasn't actually. I contacted invisalign and they said I needed more time. But I was over this place ! Leave this place when you can, the sooner the better. My Mom also left, We're now with Professional Dentists that have state of the art equipment. There's much better out there. My family and I have been going to this office for over 30 years. For years I have had nothing but great experiences but things have changed alot. We wont be going back. I've been dealing with a billing problem with them for almost 2 years. The billing office do not know what there doing. I have called in the past and asked to speak to the manager, they don't even bother to return my calls. After thinking the bill was taken care of, they sent me a threatening letter over a year later. They advised me per my dental insurance I'm responsible to bill my medical first. They don't know what there doing. I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone, unless you want a headache. read more

Jessica answered whatever questions I asked and not in professional jargon but in words I could understand. I have serious dental issues. Dr. Patel worked with me for almost 2 years to get all the issues and pain resolved. I must note it took two years because of my schedule. I have had root canals extractions and several other procedures done by her and her staff everything has been five stars to say the least.
