We love Harbor Hound and have been taking our Samoyed here since he was a small pup. Liza does an amazing job with him, and he has not always been easy to groom, however she has an abundance of patience and good humor. Scheduling is easy, but needs to be planned well in advance, as the appointments book up quickly. The shop also has some nice higher-end accessories and snacks. I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am to the staff of Harbor Hound - my tiny Shichon (8 1/2 lbs) is truly my "baby". I was always afraid of leaving her with a groomer so I took on the job myself. She was never groomed to look like anything but a "homed" dog but at least I knew she was never hurt. I ne ver touched her tail because it was her true "glory" - until one day I felt it and realized that my "kindness" to her (she was very sensitive about anyone touching her tail so I never did - my husband brushed her everyday so I didn't do that - he neglected her tail for sure). I checked with my vet and asked for a recommendation and was told there was only one place they felt they could recommend and that was Harbor Hound. By this time Bailey's tail was one huge mat. I can't begin to tell you what a fantastic experience this visit was - Bailey came out looking like a show dog as opposed to her "homed" look by mommy. She was happy and cheerful and showed no sign of any distress. I'll definitely be returning to Harbor Hound and you should too. read more

I found Harbor Hound online, even though I pass it every day as I drive through Cold Spring Harbor Village. I took my cocker spaniel for grooming there 2 days ago. I know my dog, when I say he is difficult, I mean he is really difficult. They did an excellent job on him, he looks like a brand new dog! Harber Hound is right smack in the village of Cold Spring Harbor. It is literally the size of a small room, with a separate room where they groom dogs. The main room hosts the register, clothes, collars, and other things your pup might need. It's tiny and not a place where you can wait for your dog to be groomed but it is cute. If I lived closer, I would bring my dog here. read more

I have been using Harbor Hounds for years. First took my senior dog there as he needed special care for a simple bath. They were always so kind to him and took great care. Now my mom and I both bring our Tibetan Terriers there. We do not cut their hair so their grooming can be a challenge. Each time we go (monthly) the dogs are fine going in for their baths and come out looking beautiful. Linda, Maria and staff take great care and time with everyone's dogs and I highly recommend them. Have been going here awhile until one day they shaved all my dogs hair off for no reason, and didn't even tell me before doing it. Very upsetting to my whole family. Recommend TLC groomer or groomingdales much better groomers. read more

Harbor Hounds is a small boutique shop in the heart of Cold Spring Harbor. They have a nice selection of apparel, accessories and treats. Linda and Maria are friendly, knowledgeable and most important caring and patient. I bring my miniature long haired dachshund to Harbor Hounds to be groomed. I am always confident Oscar will have a wonderful experience, and I never worry about him being stressed, or miss handled. They do a wonderful job taking care of all his tangles, matts, and nails. He always looks, and smells like a show dog when they are done grooming him. I highly recommend Harbor Hounds. read more

We adopted a rescue back over the summer. He was so badly neglected and matted that the poor thing had to be shaved down to his skin at the shelter. After four months or so he finally had some hair to cut! I explained to the owners that he was a very timid, shy and nervous dog, that seemed to have been traumatized. They reassured me that they would go slow and treat him gently. They even suggested the best time to bring him in when it would be quieter. A little while later they called to say he was ready to pick up and had done very well. My dog looked amazing! The store is very clean, stocks a great variety of foods and treats, and best of all, my dog is happy to go there. It was a wonderful experience for a worried owner and a scruffy pup that had never been groomed in his life. We have continued to make a monthly grooming visit, and we are happy each time. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to family and friends! read more

Great place to bring your pet for grooming. They do a wonderful job making my dog look fantastic and really listen to special requests. They treat my dog as if she were their own pet. We've brought our dogs here for 3 years. Each visit got longer and longer, which after 5 hours for two small dogs, got to be too much. They are pricey, and during our last visit, the owner was shoving one of my dogs into his carrier and proceeded to zip his hair into the zipper. We won't be going back! read more
