It's a big restaurant off of a country road with plenty of parking. As of two weeks ago they were doing work on the highway that was kind of unpleasant with grated roads and lane closures but it looks like it will be done soon maybe.... Anyway, it's a large space with a gift shop and shabby chic decor that all appeared to be for sale since everything has a price tag on it even in the restaurant. The service was pleasant enough. The menu has fairly straightforward cafe like offerings of sandwiches and salads. I wanted something light so I opted for the cesar salad in spite of my reservations when it said tomatoes and olives were on it. Weird but whatever chicken, lettuce, croutons and cesar dressing still felt on brand so I went for it. This is not a cesar salad. It was a salad with balsamic dressing of some kind, toasted bread with the crust cut off and a cold chicken breast. And, it comes with bread but I was told they didn't have rye so I ended up with sourdough that was also not sourdough and the waitperson didn't bring it until I was mostly through eating my refrigerator cold chicken. Just, yikes. Additionally, I still don't know how there was rye for my sister's sandwich but I wasn't allowed to order it with my food. As for her lunch, the pastrami was fine but with a lackluster amount of meat. The French onion soup was the only thing that felt reasonable with quality and price. All in all, I think the snack bars or even grocery stores in the area/ Amish country appeared to have better offerings. I wouldn't recommend this place for lunch. The gift shop was cute and reasonably priced so maybe check it out for that but that's it.

I think Tulipan's take on the Dobos torte was probably the least authentic of the three, but it was not a bad cake. I've seen it with more layers and a caramel top. This one had four layers (still impressive and a pain in the arse to make I'm sure!) and no caramel. This bakery is very cute and the service is very friendly. My son also asked for some macarons, which he seemed to like, but he couldn't finish them because he said he was full. We were there around 12:30 PM and I think most of the items were fairly picked over in the bakery case by that time. There was an interesting raspberry thing that I wanted to try, but the person in line right before me bought the last one. The baklava looked temping too. I am pretty proud of myself for not buying too many sweets. I would return here if I were in the area and try some different items.

I ordered one piece of fish and a New York chicken rice bowl with the red sauce, but I also added a vegan white sauce since I'm dairy free. The chef even gave us a taste of his gumbo which he was selling the next day. The bowl was amazing. Everything was fresh and cooked well. I was really surprised by the size of the piece of fish which was perch as normally perch is not so large. We were joined by a group of family and friends and everyone enjoyed the food from the mac & cheese to the jerk chicken to the fried fish bowl and falafel. If I'm ever back in town, I will definitely stop by. Well, in the shop, I did a little bit of shopping as well and picked up a very cute leaf pottery. I love how it natural it looks, but then it will also match the other leaf pieces I already have. The store has a wide a food on the shelf or in the fridge section plus really pretty crochet, pottery, jewelry, and other items. The store has something for everyone. Finally, we enjoyed the coffee shop which had really delicious lemonades and a number of people in our party also had coffee drink drinks. It's amazing how quickly you get your food even when they are super busy. We think they have a large menu selection, including breakfast, which we really like that they serve breakfast all day. I have to mention that that the people that work there stay a long time and are fantastic, which is a testament to the leadership and rare in today's world. I realize when I walked in that the place was hopping at the lunch hour, found a stool at the counter, given a menu by Brenna.. Chicken fried steak, eggs and really good sourdough toast. It was perfect exactly what I needed after a five hour drive. I don't think I'll be coming back to pick up any more auto parts... I wish the Gigi experience could happen closer to my home.
