I came here for a ladies lunch, meeting some friends at the halfway point. The restaurant is super cute, lots of green/plant decor, and kind of a reclaimed industrial vibe. The server was sweet, and we got our food pretty quickly. We ordered a blueberry scone to share, and the flavor was great, but it wasn't quite cooked through with a doughy bit in the middle. I had the fish and chips, and it was delicious. I think it was a home made tartar sauce, and the fish was flakey, with a nice breading. I loved the fries, they were kind of a thin cut steak fry, with lots of little crunchy bits. There were other intriguing things on the menu, so I think we'll put this in the rotation as a meet up spot! We were able to make a reservation on Open Table about 45 min ahead of time and were seated right away when we got there. I ordered the espresso martini. Delicious, however it had a dollop of whip cream on top (appearances?) if trying to give the allure of creamy, I'd rather have a splash of heavy cream. We ordered the pickle fries as an appetizer, which came with type of hot sauce. I like heat but it came right away and lingered. I'd prefer something like a signature chipotle aioli. Brunch Rating - 3.5/5 I visited for the first time in mid-September 2023 on my day trip to Wooster, Ohio to visit a friend. We both arrived to the restaurant around after 12:00 noon. The restaurant was starting to get busy upon arrival but we luckily were seated right away. FOOD -- I ordered the Loaded Potato Omelette ($13) with side of potatoes -- inside the omelette is bacon, potatoes, green onions. I got mine WITHOUT cheese and sour cream. The omelette was good and tasted like any traditional omelette. The majority of the side potatoes were burnt but the whole meal was still edible. The omelette would have tasted better with tomatoes. I also ordered the Belgian Waffle ($8) which comes with fruit on top but I got the fruit on the side so that I could add syrup on the waffle. PARKING -- Street parking but I think my friend and I found a parking lot behind the restaurant. Overall, the Leaf appears to be a popular restaurant with the locals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I really wanted to like this spot- friendly staff, interesting menu options, and a really nice space. Unfortunately the chicken sandwich came out in pretty rough shape. It looked a little off, but I am dumb so I bit in anyway- several parts of the chicken were completely inedible and hard enough I couldn't bite through. First visit to The Leaf Restaurant and we're already planning on coming back next weekend and it's an hour and 15 minutes away from where we live. The food is AMAZING and the service is phenomenal! Megan C. was our server and she was extremely sweet and very knowledgeable about the menu items. I was in the restaurant business for almost twenty years and I'm probably one of the most nit-picky customers on earth and I couldn't find one thing that could have been better with the service or the food. My wife was floored I didn't criticize one thing! Honestly, we probably only eat out once every other month anymore because I know I can make it better at home and the service isn't ever close to what I expect and should receive. Out of towners who visited on the recommendation of our hotel staff. While the staff was very warm and polite, the meal was pretty bad, to be honest. We ordered one Reuben sandwich and the naan appetizer and two waters. That's it. At 2:30 pm, not prime lunch time, those two items took 40+ minutes to get which was ironic after listening to the hostess tell a party who was considering making a reservation for later that day that "max, 20 minutes to get food here unless we're slammed which we aren't. It would be like now and maybe 20 minutes tops!" The Reuben was fatty but not in that good, marbled way. It was in the inedible, waste most of the sandwhich way. Homemade pub fries were great though. Highly recommend. The appetizer naan, which one of us had as a meal, boasted homemade naan. Great idea. It was served cold though. Naan is warm and fluffy. This was stiff and cold and there was no way it would be distinguished as anything other than out of a bag. The avocado was a spread, not sliced avocado, that was already browning. The tomato was pink it was so unripe and the eggs requested to be poached were soft boiled. I see I'm also not the only person to mention the inability to poach an egg here. The front of the restaurant was well kept and sunny. We sat in the section by the bar in booths that awkwardly felt like the tables were too high. Next to this grouping is the kitchen. Between those areas is a glass partition that really needs a clean along with the dusty, greasy ledge next to it. This restaurant had a lot of potential and maybe it's known for something specific we didn't try, but there's really no excuse for not making sure everything that comes out of the kitchen is top notch. read more

We pass thru Wooster a couple times a year, and it's always just a super cute downtown area. We've been to the Leaf before and the food and beverages were good, but there was one food mishap where the food was burned. We asked the runner if it was supposed to look like that and she said yes but a few minutes later our server noticed it and said oh no! Fast forward to this trip, they were still taking res's online but we were told there'd be a wait. We asked how long and the host said he'd need to "walk around and come back". Dude comes back and says 15-20 minutes but you could tell he was clearly spitballing. Host was super awkward but he seemed really young so maybe just attributable to that? She looked over at me sitting there and turned back and started chatting with her friends again. I moved back to Wooster over two years ago. Everyone spoke highly of the Leaf. For me, The Leaf has delivered disappointing results for all but one meal. The food has not one come to me as ordered. The restaurant has often overcooked my food. Waiting time after ordering has taken over an hour on two separate occasions. Both times the owner to her credit has given me a free meal for the next visit. The have an expo problem. I have a hard time excusing a well-done hockey puck when I ordered a medium rare burger. Don't expect refills on drinks unless Sharon is working behind the bar. I always have to ask wait staff for refills. Wait staff often forgets to refill drinks. Or they take an inordinate amount of time to get them. The Leaf provides its patrons with a pristine environment. One can easily see The Leaf cleans. It has a decent atmosphere and tasteful, current decor. As a local patron of Wooster restaurants, I try hard to support locally owned operations. The crepes were perfectly prepared. The omelette I ate was amazing! They don't skimp on ingredients in their omelettes here. Delicious! My friend ate the steak and eggs. A wonderful upscale addition to the big Woo. Our meals had their pros and cons. I had the butternut squash risotto. The rice was cooked perfectly. Usually restaurant risotto is mushy because they parboil the rice or cook it in advance. My risotto was actually properly al dente! Impressed! What I didn't love were the hard cubes of squash. It had plenty of flavor without the awkward, crunchy cubes. The chicken that came atop it was okay... but I wish it was better integrated into the dish. I also had a small beet and pear salad. The salad, as good as salads go, literally had one small beet slice cut in half. I actually forgot it was supposed to have pears until just now, as I'm writing this. I just checked the menu online, and yep...it was supposed to have pears. I don't think I detected a single pear in my salad. While my husband's dish was delicious, it wasn't advertised properly. We were told it was a foie gras steak with brussel sprouts. We were envisioning a large chunk of seared foie gras, but what we got was a 4-ish ounce steak with a small smear of foie gras on top. While yummy, the hubs was a bit disappointed...he loves goose liver. The sprouts were amazing! I want that recipe! Excellent wine selection and mixed cocktail menu! My gin-something-or-other was refreshing! We had the lava cake for dessert...I wish it was ten times the size! Sooo warm and gooey...and it came with a big ol' scoop of vanilla ice cream. I'll be dreaming about that for a while... I'd like to mention that I appreciate the serving sizes. We both had a version of the benedict which was served on a cornbread waffle that was a standout.
