a plate of bananas and whipped cream

This place gets four stars for being open on Sunday! Otherwise it would be a high three stars. Firstly, this is Amish country so finding anything open on a Sunday in this area is finding something in a baron land. The salad bar cart is definitely a must, the ingredients are garden fresh. The macaroni salad is really good and sweet. There were four soups and all were homemade and delicious. I tried Swiss steak that is only made on Tuesdays and Sundays with Mashed Potatoes. These items were just okay, nothing over the top exciting that I would just die to come back for. My hubby had the broasted chicken, it was nice and moist and light. He had the sauerkraut which he wouldn't get again and barely touched. For the finishing I had the banana cream pie and it was interesting. Delicious and sweet, I only needed a few bites it can definitely be shared at the table it's huge. They have a little store on your way out with some little handcrafted items. Some fabric and small quilts.

Amish restaurant near Wooster, Ohio! They have a great salad bar! And the entrees are huge! Definitely go hungry! Look online for the daily specials. They also have a small gift shop with handmade goods.

Walking in here was like stepping back in time . I wanted the Buffett , but sadly I was too early . It didn't start until 4pm. My husband had a cheeseburger and onion rings. He was very pleased. I had a three piece fried chicken , mashed potatoes and green beans. I was impressed by the fresh wheat bread that was brought to the table , but not as impressed by the fried chicken. It was dry and not tender and the oil tasted old. The breading was greasy and not at all crispy. I would eat here again, but try something else .

It's a big restaurant off of a country road with plenty of parking. As of two weeks ago they were doing work on the highway that was kind of unpleasant with grated roads and lane closures but it looks like it will be done soon maybe.... Anyway, it's a large space with a gift shop and shabby chic decor that all appeared to be for sale since everything has a price tag on it even in the restaurant. The service was pleasant enough. The menu has fairly straightforward cafe like offerings of sandwiches and salads. I wanted something light so I opted for the cesar salad in spite of my reservations when it said tomatoes and olives were on it. Weird but whatever chicken, lettuce, croutons and cesar dressing still felt on brand so I went for it. This is not a cesar salad. It was a salad with balsamic dressing of some kind, toasted bread with the crust cut off and a cold chicken breast. And, it comes with bread but I was told they didn't have rye so I ended up with sourdough that was also not sourdough and the waitperson didn't bring it until I was mostly through eating my refrigerator cold chicken. Just, yikes. Additionally, I still don't know how there was rye for my sister's sandwich but I wasn't allowed to order it with my food. As for her lunch, the pastrami was fine but with a lackluster amount of meat. The French onion soup was the only thing that felt reasonable with quality and price. All in all, I think the snack bars or even grocery stores in the area/ Amish country appeared to have better offerings. I wouldn't recommend this place for lunch. The gift shop was cute and reasonably priced so maybe check it out for that but that's it.

I had to wait a bit til Pookie waited on a party of 7, but eventually the other waitress got my dish and it was fixed in 5-6 minutes. My food was eventually good, but should have been first time out. It was then much too long to get our bill after we were done. The place has potential, but they need some better staff who do better.

There was six at our table and all of us but two got chicken tenders. The owner wants to be a green restaurant and I can appreciate that but there is nothing to tell you that when you go in. Don't ask for straws or extra napkins they won't give them to you. I think the only way that they have been in business for 3 years is from all the tourists that have never been there. 3 of the 5 tables that was there when we were said they would never go back. The lighting is terrible and not centered over the tables. Don't waste your money. Go somewhere else.

This is an old style diner with some counter seating and quite a few tables. They do not take names, so you just have to stand in line and wait your turn to be seated. This process was different for us but it went really well as we had probably 3-4 small groups ahead of us but were seated within less than 10 minutes. The service was very timely but not overbearing. We had drinks and our order taken probably with 5 minutes of being seated which was very nice. We got our food within probably 10-12 minutes of ordering which I thought was really good given how busy it was. As for the food, it was all very good. I had the biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns and a sausage patty all of which was very good. The sausage is their own recipe which was a little less seasoned than most but it was a very good patty. My wife had her usual eggs over easy, bacon and toast and she liked it all. The bacon was a thicker cut applewood smoked which was tremendous (she let me try it). We may try it for lunch or dinner if/when in the area again. I would definitely recommend this for breakfast if you are in the area.

We chose to order off the menu instead of the buffet because we chose for better dinning. Salad and bread came to the table and was delish! As we enjoyed, we overheard the table behind us complain about lukewarm chicken. Kind of disappointing to overhear but we figured it came from the buffet. Our dinners took a while to come out so we assumed ours would be just fine. WRONG! I ordered three-piece dark meat, and it was lukewarm and very dry, like it sat under a heat lamp for some odd reason. My wife ordered three-piece white meat and found it extremely dried out and the skin was very dark almost burned like it stayed too long in the oven. I don't understand what is going on in the kitchen, but this is NOT the Der Dutchman that we've known in the past. It was always a pleasure to enjoy home cooked meals there. I'm very sorry to give such a bad review on a place we've loved to eat at but I believe knowledge is power and Der Dutchman should be looking at these two issues with summer travel upon them.
