This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Landrum, but unfortunately, since they changed chefs, the quality has really gone downhill. The fish has been consistently overcooked, the steak is under-seasoned, and the mashed potatoes are usually barely warm. We've continued giving it chance after chance, hoping things would improve as the new chef got settled in, but at this point, the food is simply subpar. It's especially disappointing because, over the years, this restaurant seems to go through periods where it's absolutely wonderful and then significant lows where the quality really suffers. On our most recent visit, I even found a fly in my salad. They did replace the salad, but it made me question how the produce is being washed and handled. Unfortunately, we've tried it enough times now that I don't think we'll be returning anytime soon. read more

We loved the tiny town of Landrum and the Hare and Hound started us off right with a perfect lunch. I had the special of the day and asked for my bowl to come with less rice and added spring greens, which the waiter easily adjusted. He was super attentive the whole meal. This was a super cute place with a very friendly staff. We started with cheese curds and marinara. These curds were as good as any I've had. It was obvious that the marinara was made fresh as there were chunks of tomato in it. I loved the grilled pineapple teriyaki bourbon chicken. Simply BEAUTIMUS!!!! On Saturday, 7 June 2025, my wife and son had our first experience ever with the Hare and Hound. OUTSTANDING! Brianna the Server nailed it with superb first-rate Southern Hospitality Customer Service. The food was hot, fresh, and tasty just like it looked on Instagram and Facebook. The Fried Pickles hit it, my wife's Catfish Dinner hit it harder and the Honey Chicken Salad entree' for me was spot-on for a Southern joint selling it. We dined on the Patio area outside under a big ole Maple Tree (at least, I think it was a Maple but a big tree nonetheless) so it was pure-bred small Southern Town outside dining at its best, seriously. BIG shoutout to the hostess, Margie (I so hope I'm remembering that right). There was a bit of a line outside, and we had a party of 9. She told us there is a community table that we could be seated right away but there was one guy already there eating. We're a friendly, adventurous bunch with not a shy bone in any of our bodies, so it was perfect! Scott, if you're reading this, welcome to the family! The food was GREAT! I had the Guinness Beef Pie (chef's kiss), my wife got the ribs, MIL got the chicken strip basket, FIL got the fish n chips, sister got wings, BIL got blackened chicken Alfredo, niece got the teriyaki pineapple chicken... everything was delicious as evidenced by the clean plates. I don't understand the "Rave" on this place. The food is nothing to brag about. The Chicken Pot Pie is waaaaaay over rated. The dish didn't look like any chicken pot pie I ever had. And it was served Luke warm. Not very appetizing. The clam chowder soup was good. I think the clams were walking on stilts, metaphorically speaking. The soup was just served warm. The Brussel sprout app wasn't on the menu but it's available if you ask. There were some great specials and the best things we ate were specials. The duck was very good and the flatbread with persimmons was fantastic. I firmly believe this is the best place you could eat anywhere around. This place is legit fabulous. We had over the top extraordinarily kind service. We went in late and our server bottled up the last of the tea for is in gallons. We were there the night hurricane Helene hit. We didn't know what we were in for the rest of our trip. We told the team we didn't have any water or power. They were so kind. The food was amazing. I'm With everyone else. The popcorn is a nice touch. You have to get it yourself but its free and its fresh. I had the Reuben sandwich--happy as a clam! The man had the lasagna, he was very happy. The Brussels sprouts starter was huge!!!! Definitely worth the price. Would be back in a jiffy without even thinking about it, if we are back in the area. We were visiting friends yesterday and they took us here. We didn't know what to expect but liked the menu when we checked it out on line. Okay, here's the deal. Get your butt here - right now! It is so delicious!! Two in our party ordered the half and half. Sometimes made with Harp, sometimes Bass Ale; but always with Guinness. The beer was fresh and poured with precision. We all ordered something different and seriously, we were so quiet as we shoved everything down our gullets. Prime rib? Burger? Patty melt? Guinness stew? What a great place to meet friends! We met another couple and had the most wonderful time. We came early and were seated immediately. We were greeted with drinks and popcorn, we were not hurried to order but when we did.... Lord have mercy! The food was awesome! I got buttermilk fried chicken livers on a bed of sautéed onions crunchy soft and hot with fresh green beans seasoned to perfection and fresh mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious. Lunch on Friday was in Landrum, SC at the Hare and Hound. I met some older young ladies for lunch with my sister and two of her grandchildren. I met these ladies many years ago when my mother was still living, they were her friends, and they became really good friends with me. The Hare and Hound had been our next lunch destination, since our last luncheon date last year. It was a nice day with a nice breeze in the in the shade. There is outdoor seating, and a gentleman playing some really nice jazz on his guitar. We decided to eat inside, there is mostly booth seating and only one bathroom(only one person can use it). A problem with a restaurant of that size, and the number of people that dine there. Even with the restroom door locked some one was constantly knocking on the door the entire time it took me to use the restroom. Usually a locked door means someone is in there. The atmosphere was nice, but a little noisy. Our waiter was very attentive and checked on us periodically, and kept our drinks refilled. The menu has a good variety of appetizers, soups, salads, pub favorites and desserts to choose from. I decided to get the chicken quesadilla and lemonade to drink. The lemonade was tart pink lemonade, not really sweet after adding some Splenda was much better. We didn't have a long wait for our food. The chicken quesadilla comes with three scoops one each of salsa, sour cream and guacamole. The quesadilla was only ok to me, one tortilla cut into four pieces. It had pieces of grilled chicken breast with some tender and tough pieces of chicken, onions and melted cheese. If you order this,don't carry it out, it is not good cold or reheated it was only warm when it was served. For dessert I got the fried cheesecake, it too was only ok to me. I'm not exactly sure what the cheesecake mixture was wrapped in, but it was similar to a fried tortilla with caramel sauce, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped topping a dusting of powdered sugar. The caramel sauce, the ice cream and cheesecake filling was good, but that fried wrap was tough to cut into and chew. A wasted $8.00 and some change for that dessert. The total of my bill for me and my twelve year old niece was $44.64, kind of expensive not to have enjoyed my meal. I did enjoy spending time with my friends and family, and would ask that you give The Hare and Hound a try. I would again, just to try some thing else on their menu. read more

Wow I hadn't been to the restaurant in a few years and I had loved the atmosphere and the food. However my latest visit left much to be desired. I ordered the special which was a steak and asked for it to be cooked medium well. When it arrived it was all but cooked - I couldn't eat it. Their mashed potatoes were instant or a version of them. And for the price I was charged I certainly expected what my steak cooked to my request and authentic food. The bill automatically calculated the suggested tip which included the total plus "tax" . So you are tipping on tax as well. Very disappointing and I won't be going back. read more

Not good! My dog came for an hour like we would usually do. He had not had his dinner (my bad) and he quickly grabbed a customer's burger/sandwich off their table and ran. The customer and their spouse kind of laughed at it. I was getting ready to purchase a replacement burger for that customer and before I could do so, the management told me that ME and my dog had to leave!!! I have been a regular customer 3-4 times a week and neither I nor the customer were complaining about it, yet they kicked me and my dog out instead of letting us handle our own situation. Let customers and dog owners handle their own situations and management should stay out unless the customers cannot resolve matters on their own peacefully. Anybody who is a dog owner, and is eating food in the presence of other dogs, should know this kind of behavior can happen. read more

Green beans were definitely came from can. Mashed potatoes, eh, tough to mess those up. Gravy was white flour, salt and cornstarch. Catfish was very bland. Sorry, we would label it diner food.
