Charming little basement bar! We visited Simpsonville for the weekend and came here very hungry after the 6 hr drive. My husband and I were impressed by the meat and cheese plate, that additionally included pickles, apricot jam, and dried cranberries; highly recommend choosing the German meats and cheeses, I was hesitant but they were delicious! For entrees we had the Rachel sandwich and the bratwurst, with sides of red cabbage and Brussels sprouts. I didn't finish the sandwich because of its size and took half to go. The sprouts were fresh and well seasoned, and my husband was still talking about the red cabbage a day later. The German beer list is extensive and the server recommended a couple to me, and let me taste before deciding which was helpful. The people who work here are kind and seem like a little family. In fact the owner came around at one point to individually cheers with people which was cute. We really enjoyed the warm intimate atmosphere and would love to go back. read more

A very unique German restaurant. Very similar to the German Pubs we visited in Germany. When you enter, you go downstairs into a basement like area where the bar and seating is. It's very small. Reservations are suggested unless you go very early. (5:00 opening). We were brought a basket of pretzels with German mustard. The German beers on tap are very good. We both had the bratwurst and German potato salad. There are 2 large brats on the plate. We enjoyed the meal and conversation with other guest seated next to us. Wade the owner made it a point to visit the table and share his recommendations. Jack our server was courteous and attentive to our needs. We tried many different offerings and loved them all. If you enjoy a dry wine then you will enjoy. I prefer a semi sweet wine and actually did a wine tasting a few months ago and was only served very dry wines. Would definitely recommend if they added more variety. read more

This is my favorite bar ever... every time we come, we always ask ourselves... 'WHY DON'T WE COME MORE OFTEN?'... We have only ever eaten in the downstairs, which seats maybe 10 people MAX. So, get there and get a seat QUICK! It's cozy, dark & intimate... They do have a huge dining room where you can eat and drink as well, we just prefer the closeness of the authentic feeling German pub, service is so great. This was our first time here and it didn't disappoint. Cozy and relaxed atmosphere- but TINY. This is not a place for large groups. The food was amazing and the beer was even better. We got a meat and cheese board, London broil sliders, Spätzle, and a couple of beers. I couldn't decide what I enjoyed the most. It was all mouth watering delicious. Seriously good food! We went with friends and ordered sliders, meatballs, and Reuben sandwiches. We started with crunchy pretzels with dipping mustard, hot and spicy. Strong, dark beer and decent Cabernet went well with our red cabbage and delicious beef. The meatballs were fabulous, tender and spicy, served on small bread rounds. The Reuben sandwich was the best we've ever had, and the sliders were outstanding. We will definitely be back. read more

Right off Main Street, this little pub in Simpsonville is really neat! The bar is located downstairs and the seating area is just big enough to seat 4 small dinner parties and a few folks at the bar. Came back for the Spätzle last weekend. Delicious! I have noticed that the options for non-alcoholic drinks are extremely meager. Soda and water. No tea, no juice. I know it's a pub, but there are people like me who just come specifically for the food. Something to consider! This is my second or third time visiting this adorable bar! I don't live in the area, but every time we visit I try to make my way here. The only downfall of this place is it's getting busier and busier and the underground bar isn't big enough to accommodate a lot of people. It is so cute though! The owner will sit at the bar and tell stories, his staff is always friendly and quick with their service. They have food options for those feeling snacky. Our first visit here was out celebrating our anniversary and the owner gave us a dessert as a congrats! I can't say enough about this place. I just love it. read more

You go here expecting a pub with German food, not a German restaurant that happens to serve the wonderful German brew. At least, that's what you should do. This is a true German pub, with excellent selection and decent service. Once you step foot in, you'll be confused at first why you're just staring at a bathroom. To you left - a wonderful private room enough for several guests. To your right you'll see a downward staircase leading to the most quaint and heartfelt German pub you can find in the city. Make sure you're smelling nice and showered first, as it's close quarters. Sitting in there will make you feel like you're in a small town, likely to have the mayor greet you. Maybe not the mayor, but the owner certainly will. He was a very kind and loving man as I could tell and his heart was with his restaurant as it should be. You could feel the love he has for his restaurant. But for me, it was a mixed bag. The rundown... Bratwurst Dinner - 3/5 stars The bratwurst and sauerkraut were of course good, but also about what you'd expect from buying canned sauerkraut and store brought brats. Nothing stood out. The German potato salad did though. It had somewhat of a waxy texture biting into it, with the faint taste of vinegar, which was quite good and made well. For the price, I would expect three brats at least for this size and my dinner was missing bread and butter. Disappointing. Meat & Cheese Board - 4/5 stars Now this was a nice and welcoming appetizer. Choose wisely though! I chose the brie, German bologna and another I forget the name of. It's a welcoming mixed bag and seems to be like a staple of this restaurant. The bread did not come fully cut and I had to keep tearing into it. The starting price gets you three choices and automatically comes with sweet pickles, bread, etc. A must order for your first time here. All in all, it's a quaint little hidden gem you shouldn't pass on next time you're by. Perhaps This is a very tough review. I'm giving it four stars, with the forth star scoring for originality and true heartfelt atmosphere. Maybe I should've went in ordering the spaetzle, but who can resist German brats in a German pub? read more

Great concept, but you better "love thy neighbor" here. Extremely small place. I think there are seats for 20 and on the weekend it gets PACKED! Last couple of times we reserved a table and we were still waiting an hour after our reserved time. I know a lot of people really like this place but it's just not for me. read more

We didn't know what to expect but would wind up spending hours here. The restrooms on entry were a bit confusing and we didn't know whether to go left or right but they're doing a bunch of renovation here. We went right to the downstairs bar area. What a treasure.. friendly people and a large wine list. Come to find out there was a wine tasting upstairs so we ventured up. The room upstairs is still In the works but it was beautiful. We had a lovely tasting and sat with the owners daughter. So much fun but I think we lucked into this event. Returned downstairs to eat.. we did not know what to expect from the little galley kitchen but I tell you what.. We found the best Reuben we have ever had.
