I am so happy my family stumbled upon this place! After dinner, we were wanting to go somewhere to grab a drink and talk (the place we went to for dinner was pretty loud so we couldn't hear each other well). That being said, we wanted a quieter setting. There was a band playing when we arrived but saw there was outside seating which was perfect because we enjoyed the music that was being played, but again, we wanted to talk. The porch was a perfect place to do both! The music was loud enough we could hear it but quiet enough that we had a wonderful time, drinking our wine/cocktails and hanging out. The inside was also super chill because it's dimly lit and there are two bar areas. If we lived closer, I could see my husband and I coming here often for a date spot or with friends! When we arrived, one of the staff members was helpful because we hadn't been here before so we weren't sure where to order. We went to the bar as instructed and ordered our drinks. My aunt and I both ordered a glass of wine--she had a sav. Blanc and I got the Prosecco. The guys ordered a dark and stormy, the hibiscus house cocktail, and a Manhattan. Really good food options and some nice fall cocktails in a really cool basement themed place. I really think this could be a cool spot since the food was well prepared, the live music was good, and the atmosphere was very unique. However, I'm only giving it 3 of 5 because the service was just nonexistent. We grabbed bar seats by the door (not the main bar around the corner by the bathrooms) and the guy "serving" us could have cared less that we were there. Basic stuff like follow up and 'what would you like' type questions were basically him walking up and staring at us until we initiated conversation. What terrific atmosphere and "all-around" commitment to an idea. We had a wonderful sit down, relaxing lunch and this easy going was the perfect after a hot day exploring the area. Having family in the Baltimore area, we have visited several times and got a kick out of the decor and National Bohemian being served. One would never be disappointed with the food here either if they keep up their standard to what was served today: the tostada was loaded with yummy tuna, the bruschetta w/salmon was excellent. The limited space is the only reason to pass what feels like the waiter station/kitchen area, but it only adds to the the quirkiness of the place. Only 2 or 3 tables and a few at the bar were around (3pm or so) and the drinks came out a bit slow and the food, one at a time, well spaced apart. I guess it would be best to be prepared for a wait on a busy night, but that wouldn't stop us from returning! read more

Bees Knees Drink is was very interesting in a good way never drank anything that lavender-ie! Service was meteor but it was New Years Eve so they definitely get a pass on that part of the review. My favorite place in Hendersonville. Since moving here a year ago we have gone every Wednesday night for trivia and met so many wonderful people. The owners clearly care about what they are doing and spread that love to the customers. The ambiance is a perfect combination of rich dark woods and amazing Poe-themed decor. Went on Christmas Eve for a few pre dinner beers and fell in love! The service was warm and welcoming from the moment we walked in the door. I haven't posted in a while; however, my experience tonight merited a post/response and I am happy to oblige. I live in the most pleasant, rural, great place to raise your kids, Hendersonville. For the most part, we have a thriving culinary community and are very conscious of our nearby competitors (I.e. Asheville and Charlotte). Nevertheless, we hold our own as culinary innovators and hosts to the growing tourist community. So, it is with a sad heart that I post this review about the Poe House, but more specifically the bartender that they employ: whom by his own admission is "the only full time bartender." (What a piece of work). I have patronized this establishment many times and will first say that other than this completely self-absorbed, d-b, the staff and management are top notch! I think they are simply fantastic. This bartender, however, who represents the establishment as "the only bartender who is full/time staff" failed to ask me after 30 mins if I wanted a menu; and, when I asked him for one called me an "A#*#%le!" ... wow. What he failed to recognize, which I pointed out to management staff when he attended, was that I have been a frequent patron to this establishment, but showed up this evening in different garb and riding my Harley, with my tattoos and colors flying proudly. Make your own judgements as the food and wine selection is quite good. This bartender needs a correction, though. read more

This is our go-to spot in Hendo!! Such a fun and friendly staff, drinks are always great and their food is such a huge step up from any other bar food around. Almost feels weird saying "bar food" because it's not at all, they have a rotating menu of truly delicious plates like smoked salmon and Brie bites, warm baguette with harissa butter, Mediterranean nosh plate, and their pizza!! Oh my gosh. If you like sort of cool, low key, and funky oddities type of vibe, this is your place. Almost feels a bit like an exclusive basement bar since you're tucked away on the lower level. Another thing they're great at is their events. Most outrageous, outlandish, and so much freaking fun!! We've been to their emo/goth prom night event, Catalina wine mixer, countless live music acts. Always a night to remember. We live here in town and come at least once or twice a week, feeling like part of the Poe House family. The vibe is dark like you're in the cask of amontillado when you walk in. They didn't have a ton of beer taps but what they did have was excellent. Someone paid great attention to detail, there is seating in the front and back, with walls formed out of old doors and windows linked together. great wall art that reflects Poe's spirit. Space is intimate but well laid out. 2 bars, One in front, one in back. Front bar is great when there's live music and bar in back is inviting (5 seats) and great for conversation. SERVICE Nate, my bartender was wonderful! Very knowledgeable about the menu for food and drinks, made great suggestions and attentive when I needed something. I really liked the camaraderie of the staff, everyone worked well together. FOOD/DRINKS Drinks are hand-crafted. I had the Sage Gin and tonic, mixed to perfection by Nate. Beautiful balance, subtle flavor. Not overpowering with a hint of peppercorn. Try one! Their food is magnificent. I got the Combo plate, which is a combination of cheeses, meets, and different peppers and almonds and nuts to try with what tastes like homemade bread. I got these caper berries along with my tray, and these wonderful, sweet tiny peppers. My cheeses were a chatter and aged sharp cheddar and a goat milk cheese. The meat and the cheese is were exquisite, along with the presentation of the plate itself. This will be one of my favorite repeat places when I come to Hendersonville. The locals were incredibly warm and friendly, I met Lindsey, Bea, Greg and man cub, and they welcomed me with open arms. RESTROOM One private Unisex restroom, it was clean and beautifully decorated. OVERALL I really enjoyed my experience at this craft drink, appetizer plate/snack establishment. This is a GEM that should definitely be explored. Now this is my kind of place!! Any bar you have to go into an alley and into a basement is off to a good start! Has a dark, dank speakeasy vibe! Boo ha ha (insert spooky organ music here)! Welcome to the cellar, welcome to the crypt! Low ceilings, a wisp of natural light and crowded dark wood farm tables. On the main wall are a variety of six packs for sale. The bar seats maybe four. Edgar Allen Poe is staring at you, wherever you go, like a creepy painting from Scooby Doo. Almost ten taps of draught beer. Order a flight, a pint or even a half pint. Sculpin IPA was my poison. I was happy to see it so far from the coast. A plethora or rapscallions lay about toasting and drinking red, red wine. By the bottle or the glass, qouth the Raven. Are those patrons per chance eating pizza? Wait, this place doesn't have a kitchen. What they do have, is an agreement with the Wood Fired Pizza place upstairs to order and deliver. When all was said and done, down went the setting sun The last candle had burnt its wick, the mantel clock no tock nor tick The cavern bar with no more din, time to leave or be bricked in ... I really wanted to love this place, but the service was not great. The bar closes at 10pm, which seems weirdly early, especially becauae when I arrived at about 9:30 on a Fri night, the place was full. Seems like they are leaving money on the table, but whatever, that's their choice. What was actually disappointing is that we arrived at 9:30 for a nightcap, and they were already shutting the bar down, wldn't make cocktails, had already turned the music off, and then we felt pressured the entire 20 min or so of our stay to basically chug our wine and get out. It seems like the staff have confused "closing at 10" with staff leaving at 10. It was a buzzkill, and we felt unwelcome and disrespected as they started putting up the chairs before we finished our drinks. What a bummer. read more

The food menu is small so if you're looking for more this may not be it for you . We had the fig pizza and the apple and Brie bites and loved them both . I have been comIng to this place for years!!! I don't know what has happened to management/bar tending but I'm at a loss of words. They NEED a new cocktail bar tender. Horrible attitude and management could care less. Didn't even serve me or my sister because something else was more important??? Will not be coming back. EVER. Simply put, you would be hard pressed to find a better atmosphere in a bar. The Poe theme is excellent, which is reflected in glasses, low light levels, a cellar vibe, various ravens, and of course, gears and a scythe on the wall. The real gem of this place is the back room, which has very comfy leather couches. Great rotating tap selection that has something for all palates. Anyway, I went down to Hendersonville on a random Tuesday to Poe House. Why? Because every Tuesday is Champagne Tuesday there. SO! You see, I was compelled. While driving to downtown Hendersonville the sign for The Poe House caught my eye. It seemed like a neat bar or restaurant and it definitely was. The decor on the inside was all Edgar Allan Poe themed and they played somewhat modern music. The prices for their creative cocktails were also less than what I initially thought. On Tuesdays they have a champagne bar too where you can add different ingredients in that are in old fashion looking bottles. It has a fantastic vibe embracing the theme without being too over the top (ok, it was a little over the top as they were having a costume contest that night so everyone was dressed up). Update to my review. I saw the bartender as he said he was processing a refund and I left. The refund was never processed. I called the restaurant to speak to a manager and never received a call back. I disputed the charge and will see what happens. It's not that much money, but it's the principal.
