After reading "War" by Sebastian Junger I was excited for the documentary film "Restrepo" to come this summer. Turns out the only theatre in Arizona it was playing at was "Valley Art". I had never heard of this theatre but was happy to try out a new place. Yes, parking around Mill can be a nightmare but the theatre DOES offer 4 hr FREE validated parking if you park in the huge lot by those condos they started building and basically abandoned. It's on the street just west of mill. Be sure to park here and get your ticket validated... though the lot says 1st hour free, the movie theatre has a special 4 hr validation. The theatre only contains 1 actual screen, but it's nice. The seats are very comfy and I love that all of the arm rests come up. The bathrooms are clean and the service for food/tickets is friendly and fast. I'd definitely come here again if they were showing a film I liked.

Best art house in the Valley, just not enough of them. They do a lot of WORK with ASU School of Sustainability.

Great place to catch an Indie. Perfect location too, after you can catch a bite to eat on this busy street.

A movie theater where you can get tickets for $3.50 AND snackies for less than $20?! WHAAAAT?!…read moreCount me IN!! I currently have a love/hate relationship with social media, but I'm so glad I came across a post showcasing this glorious theater located in Tempe! I was going to try it out by myself but the Crazy Cat Lady (if you follow me on the gram, you know who that is, lol) decided to come out from the boonies on a whim, so we went. We saw "Weapons" and it had us hooked to the end! No, the seats don't recline (they do lean back a little) or have swingy table tops for your snackies, but they have cup holders and they're not cloth seats, so for $3.50 (and $2.95 every Thursday) you really can't complain! The theater was clean and the nostalgic decor make for a very enJOYable experience. There's also an arcade in the front lobby to the left once you enter. My only little gripe is that the restrooms are on opposite ends, but that's a very minor setback. The concession stand has all the basics: popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, pretzels, candy and drinks. We got the combo deal for $11.95, which includes a medium drink, medium popcorn AND a hot dog (or pretzel). We ordered an additional small drink and the total came out to $15 and some change. I don't know about you, but I know a good deal when I see one and this here is pretty epic in today's economy! Of course the movies shown here are a few months old, but I love that because that means it's not crowded at all. I can't stand a packed theater. This would be a great place for a birthday party, team-building or just a simple no frills kinda date! There's a bunch of pic opps in here, too. Have yourself a blast and don't forget to take a pic with Chewie, like me! Lol!

Fast forward 30+ years and you can imagine my excitement to pay $3.50 for a movie ticket! With cheap seat theaters you make the assumption there's going to be holes in the screens, broken seats, shotty sound and sticky floors however, pollack had none of the above. I caught two flicks today and both theaters were perfectly acceptable. In today's economy any night out comes with the expectation of the price tag going into three digit territory quickly. Pollack takes you back in time both in value and entertainment. You can even stick around and play street fighter 2 in the lobby/arcade. Call me "The Terminator" because "I'll be back"!

While they don't have IMAX , they have something called Cine XL. The seats in this theater are nicer and have a reclining option. Because this is attached to a large shopping center, there is ample parking and many options to grab a bite to eat afterward. My only negative feedback is that the pretzel had too much salt on it and I found myself using a napkin to dust off most of the salt it came with.

Most recently, I was here for a screening of Tony hosted by A24. It was a pretty straightforward process of registering online then showing up relatively early because the seating was first come, first served. Screening started at 7pm so I showed up at 6pm and there was already a good amount of people in line but I was hopeful. What they didn't make super clear was that the line was only for General Admission, and there was already an unknown number of people in the theater that got in first due to some kind of Priority Access. Not sure how they got that. All us common folk waited in line - which moved very slowly, until around 7:55pm. Then, one of the managers told us 5 minutes before the screening that the seating was full. I feel like there was a chance to tell us a bit earlier, since there were still about 50 of us waiting in line. I was about 15 people away from getting in, but they could have told the people at the very back of the line that it was unlikely they would get in so that they wouldn't waste their time waiting. Not a super big deal - it was a free screening - but the manager showed us a QR code to scan and fill out a google form to get priority access to a screening the following week. Maybe the priority people that day were rejects of a previous day... very enlightening. What she didn't specify is that the screening was at a Harkins location in Scottsdale - and that was only clear after filling out the form and getting an email about it days later. Don't know why they were gatekeeping information; I would have preferred to know more details upfront. I ended up getting a ticket to a different movie that also started at 7pm, so at least my theater outing wasn't wasted. Staff at the concessions is quick- it's just the customers that are sometimes so slow in deciding what they want to order. Appreciate that this harkins has the recliner seats. Overall, I just want the organization of the screenings to be better.

You enter through the different doors and then get your ticket scanned. For screenings where you can get the commemorative film strip, they hand them out AFTER the screening, while supplies last. I went to the first screening of the day and will continue doing that to guarantee I get the film strips :) I got there relatively early so I had plenty of time to order concessions, they have the exact same menu as the standard Harkins. After getting my mandatory cinnamon pretzel and cherry coke (my unbeatable movie theater snack duo), I made my way to the theater. Screen is gigantic! So cool that we have one in the valley. I got my seat at the middle of the very top row, which I did enjoy because the seats were separated in batches of 4-5, so I didn't have to walk past 10+ people to get to my seat. This is also the row where they have a couple spaces for wheelchair accessible seating. One thing I didn't expect was the rows to be so close to each other, so even though I was at the top row, there were some taller people in the lower rows that would block your view of the bottom of the screen if they were directly in front of your seat. I find that unfortunate, since the point of going to the IMAX is being able to see everything presented on the screen. Still need to figure out which seats are technically the best here. Audio and lighting was intense, not sure if that's for every movie or just The Odyssey but I felt like I was on the journey with them. I already got my tickets to go see Dune 3 in December :) very excited!

One thing I really liked is that the IMAX theater is separate from the regular theaters and has its own dedicated area, including concession stands and bathrooms. It makes the experience feel a little more premium and less crowded. Concessions are priced exactly how you'd expect at a movie theater, but the food was actually pretty solid. We ordered the chicken tenders combo along with popcorn and a drink. If you order a combo meal, you place the order at the counter and then wait in a separate pickup area where they bring the food out to you. The tenders came out piping hot and the fries were crispy. They also have extra butter dispensers if you want more, which I always do. The IMAX screen is HUGE and the sound system was excellent. Honestly, there really doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. We sat in G21/G22, which looked close to center on the seating chart, and the view was fantastic. Nice bonus that there's also an elevator available for guests who need accessible access to the upper seating areas. The only reason this isn't a 5-star review is the seating. The seats were standard theater seats that rocked slightly. They were comfortable enough, but reclining seats with tray tables would have made the experience much better, especially since any food you order basically has to be eaten from your lap. One small touch that stood out: before the movie started, a staff member made a live announcement reminding everyone to silence and put away their phones. Most theaters just play a prerecorded message now, so that felt surprisingly personal and appreciated. Overall, a really enjoyable IMAX experience and definitely worth checking out for big blockbuster movies.

Being able to purchase tickets online in advance makes things a lot easier, as you can avoid waiting until the last minute and missing out on the best seats in the theater. One thing I really like about the theater is that their food is great. While it is a bit pricey, I really enjoy their food and their popcorn. It does have its quirks -the rewards program is pretty mid compared to AMC's- but joining at least gives you discounted movie tickets and discounted concessions. For someone that can't make the committment to go multiple times a week, this is honestly fine for me. I do wish they had something like the Harkins loyalty cup though. Their kettle corn is my favorite, and the snack pack is - in my opinion - the perfect portion size for one person to munch on. I'd skip on the pretzel bites. I also like ordering my snacks for pickup right before the movie so that I can just walk in and grab them - no need to stand in line. Some of the theater rooms have tables that swivel out from the chairs - this is gamechanging for when you have multiple snacks to hold. I don't think all the rooms have them though, but it was a very pleasant surprise the first time I saw them. I also love that the aisles are very spaced out and the height between each one is enough that you don't get peoples heads in the way if theyre in front of you.
