Not a top notch professional by any stretch of the imagination. Put a faulty product in my friends home which caused major water damage to half of the house. Do not use this company for any reason as a lack of work ethic and obligation to customers who pay a lot of money for a new AC unit and provide a poor quality product. Mike is honest, communicative, fairly-priced, professional, knowledgeable, and super serious about delivering quality work. We hired a local business because that's what we love to support and we are so glad we did. The previous owners hired an A/C company that did a horrendous job with installing. The thermostat was located in a place that made no sense so during the summer the two bedrooms downstairs would turn icy cold if we did not manually turn the thermostat off. We had Mike install a thermostat in a place that makes sense but that came with many problems. We believe our house had a couple add-ons on two separate occasions - the first one making the house longer, and the second adding another story. So the way the house was built it created almost no way for him to get to the furnace through the attic. Ac was not working on one of the hottest weeks, of course. Had another repairman come out to diagnose but he said the follow up diagnostic required two people and he wouldn't be able to come out until several days later. He left understanding this was urgent and was ok for us to call another repairman since I have a toddler and a pregnant wife suffering in the heat. I found Harlan on yelp and called him. Was connected to Mike and said he could fit me in the next day. Lucky us, one of his scheduled jobs didn't respond so he called me back and came the same day! He diagnosed the problem outside and verified the condenser was ok along with low voltage signals. Then he explained what the problem could be and that there might be a fuse break related to the condensation drain/pump. We go into the attic and low and behold it's exactly as he described. He showed me how everything should be working and why it wasn't and what he was going to do to fix it. Within a couple hours he cleaned up and replaced the old drain pipe since he didn't like how it was done by the previous installed. He also identified wiring that was done incorrectly and fixed that as well. Definitely will be the first person to call again if there is anything wrong with our ac. read more

Michael is awesome!!! Harlan was the first call I made yesterday to take a look at my central AC. It stopped running this past weekend. He said he would try to stop by after he finished a couple of jobs he had. I called over 10 locations and everyone was booked until next week! I guess when summer hits, everyone's AC breaks! Mike was great at fixing my AC issues. I had a few people come out and one said to just replace the whole unit. I had another HVAC repair guy who said to charge freon was $700. I was ready to replace the unit (around 10k) but ended up calling Mike. He was able to diagnose the problem that the fan went out of alignment and started hitting the sides. He came back and was able to get the parts needed to replace the fan. He also helped me replace the air filters in the house. Now the AC has been working great for last few months. I've used this company twice. The first time, my AC went out on a super hot day and the old company I used couldn't schedule me for a week! I called Mike and he said he would head my way after finishing his current job. He and his assistant showed up a couple hours later. It was hard to find someone who could come out the same day. I called Mike and I feel so lucky to have found him. He came out after a few hours and fixed the problem in 10 minutes. He put in a temporary part off his truck and then drove to the store where we got our unit (still under warranty) to get an original part to ensure our warranty wasn't impacted. First a little back story. I was in the process of purchasing a home in Pasadena. At the 11th hour of escrow we determined that the A/C wasn't working. So my realtor hired an A/C company to inspect the system and determine the problem. Their report was that the system was a total loss and needed to be replaced at a cost of $5k. This almost derailed the entire purchase. But low and behold the owners A/C company was able to get cold air to come out the next day. We were not told what had been fixed. So I hired a second independent A/C company to do an inspection. They found everything to be in perfect working order. So we closed escrow. The next day the A/C stopped working. I found that they were using 15A fuses on a 30A system and had blown the fuses. I replaced the fuses and the A/C was again working. Until the following day when the condenser fan seized. I found a replacement fan and got the A/C working again. I say working, and it was, but when it turned on it sounded like a wind tunnel in the hallway where the air inlet was, and very low air flow was outputted. Also after it had been running awhile the fan would continue to run but the cold air would stop then come back on intermittently. Which brings us to Harlan Air. I was walking back from the market on the corner with my wife when I saw a Harlan Air van parked next to my neighbors house. Stopped to talk with the guy outside loading items in the van. He said the owner would be out shortly. When the owner came out I described the issues and asked if they would take a look at it. They were just finishing up with my neighbor, and said no problem, then came right over. They found that the system had twice as much freon as it was supposed to. This was causing the condenser to over-pressure and kick off causing my intermittent cooling. They also found that the condenser capacitor was soft which caused a delay from when the system told the air to turn on and when it finally would. They had the parts with them and replaced the cap. They also added a booster cap so it would never have the problem again. At this point the system was working better then I had expected. I asked him to take a look at the rest of the system and had described the air tunnel sound when in use. He found that the air inlet was half the size required for a 3 ton system. He also found that the inlet air ducting had been tie wrapped to a cross beam and had crimped the air duct in half. I hired him to come back the following week to cut out the ceiling and double the air inlet area. When he came back not only did he perform that work but he upgraded the air duct with the proper diameter ducting and laid it out so that it was secure and had no kinks. At this point I had 30% more air coming out of my air outlets and I couldn't tell the fan had turned on by listening. During the air inlet ceiling hole being enlarged some drywall around the hole had been damaged. This was due to an old house, and the use of tiny 1' wood slats being used above the ceiling. They vibrated like piano wire during the cutting process. I chalked this up to a small price to pay for the benefits already achieved. The owner is a perfectionist and told me he had some drywall guys. Offered to pay for half the cost of the repairs to the drywall. His guys were their that evening. He came back because he wanted to make sure things went smoothly and to install the air inlet register after the repairs had been completed. When they were done it looked better then it ever had. Harlan Air is honest and competent. They carry parts on hand. They do a great job right the first time and I won't call anyone else for any of my A/C needs. read more

Mike installed a mini split system in my machineroom where all the computers and hot fan items are situated. He did a fantastic job not only installing the unit but also decoupling the outside compressor. It was a very tricky install. The machineroom is placed underneath a flight of stairs. In order to get rid of the condensation water he installed an automatic pump that turns on as soon as it reaches a certain level and pumps out the water into our main drain. Very slick!
