I discovered Harlem Chocolate Factory on Ubereats because I was so desperately craving a chocolate chip cookie one day. I browsed their menu and figured I would try one their chocolate bars too to justify the delivery. The cookie arrived in a newspaper-paper wrapping and was pretty decent in size. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It came with sea salt sprinkled on top. It definitely satisfied my cookie craving that night! The next day, I unwrapped the milk chocolate bar. Please take a moment to look at the picture I posted and tell me if you've ever seen a bar of chocolate that beautifully designed before??? I felt absolutely terrible destroying this work of art with each bite. It was, however, rich and scrumptious! The only negative to Harlem Chocolate Factory is that they are only open on the weekends (Friday-Sunday). So you should probably stock up on them on a Sunday that way you can survive the week without them. read more

My first time visiting and it was such a delightful stop! The details in the interior design of the shop were very interesting and I wanted to stay just to keep spotting more. Super clean shop, the kitchen is in the back and I love that you can see the operations. I got one of everything and a Brownstone Bar which is just too gorgeous to eat! Tried these truffles at the Salon du Chocolat convention in New York. And I must say. Jessica did not come to play. The flavors. The texture. The culture... THE INGREDIENTS! What a brand. She put all the souls of our ancestors into that sweet potato truffle. Her truffles were crisp on the outside. They bounced around in the box all day and kept their form. But when you pop one in your mouth and bite, everything on the inside floods out like perfection. I came to the convention because I heard she would be there. I was not disappointed. Took a bite of that rosé truffle and it came with a KICK. The rosé flavor blends perfectly with the white chocolate. The flavors are distinct, but compliment each other. My exact words were "wow, this tastes like rosé". Those were my two favorite truffles. I also tried the red velvet, D'usse cognac caramel, and what I believe was the bourbon hazelnut. I enjoyed the D'usse a lot. The flavor was very strong. The red velvet and the bourbon were my least favorites, only because the dark chocolate content was high and I'm not a fan of dark chocolate. Both the red velvet and the bourbon were 72% dark chocolate. So my faves in order are: 1. Sweet potato pie 2. White chocolate Rosé 3. D'usse caramel 4. Red velvet 5. Bourbon I didn't try the banana puddin. I regret not switching out the bourbon for it. I didn't realize at the time it was dark chocolate. I, however, do NOT regret getting two of the sweet potato in my box. I guess know my tastes. They sold it in a box of 6 for about $18. I'm coming back for some of that bark though. I'm not sure what kind of bark I tried, but it tasted RIGHT. I love that the owner herself is still so invested in the brand. She was there watching over everything, interviewing, and interacting with guests. I love that they make all of their products in their Harlem factory and that they convey so much Harlem culture. With names like "Bodega dreams", "Across 110th street", "First Nite in Lenox", this brand is a perfect representation of the people who live there. She uses Uncle nearest whiskey, a brand that honors the enslaved black man who taught Jack Daniel to make whiskey. I read somewhere she uses the black founded potato chip, Detroit Friends Potato Chip (dubbed Oprah favorite chip). One day I'll confirm that one. It's a wonderful touch wrapping her chocolate in pictures of Harlem. Her products are art! Well deserving of all my money. read more

I love having a chocolate shop in the neighborhood! Chocolate bonbons are $3.50 each, which is steep even by NYC chocolatier standards, but they're a great treat. I've tried the Afterschool Snack (milk chocolate PB&J with a little heat) and the dark chocolate ginger, and you know I'll be back to try others. There were about 4 flavors to choose from when I visited, plus a truffle or two. There was also hot chocolate, but we were afraid to order it since there was no price listed. (And also because fancy hot chocolate deserves to be enjoyed from something better than a paper to-go cup.) The shop is tiny, so don't plan on enjoying your treats on the spot. They do gift boxes for weddings, holiday parties, etc. If you're planning a big event, support a small local business with a lot of heart and order from here! First off, it's pretty amazing to have a nice chocolate shop in Harlem that is mama owned and managed! I came in not as a regular customer but as a parent of a field trip! (How cool) my sons first grade class had a field trip today and learned how chocolate is made and we toured around this great shop! They got to make chocolate lolipops which were amazing!! They also learned and tasted the difference between dark,milk and white chocolate! The shop itself offers great treats like fruity pebbles chocolate bark, quinoa and sea salt chocolate, ACE OF SPADES truffles ($10 a pop which works for me compared to $300 a bottle) There's a lot of other choices as well. They sell out of their tarts easily and they also had some yummy looking banana pudding truffles! The ingredients are organic and high quality chocolate is used (I saw first hand). It was a really cool experience and again the chocolate was delicious! Can't wait to go back for my chocolate fix! read more

You can tell these chocolates are made with love. I wanted to treat myself, so I had an assortment + dark chocolate bark shipped to me (yes, from Harlem to Brooklyn...I'm avoiding travel right now #Covid19). I chose the "Chef's choice" option because I wanted to try everything. Man, these chocolates are DIVINE. Everything I've tried so far has been delicious - I especially liked the unique flavors, like Rosé Champagne and Banana Puddin'. These are very high quality and feel way more special than a box of chocolates from mainstream chocolatiers. The dark chocolate bark is very dark, so if you're sensitive to the bitterness, you might want to go for the milk or white. Personally, I loved it. The crunchy quinoa is a great touch! While I was bored at home, I went ham with the photos. I'm 80% sure I got the names right, I'm guessing based off the flavors on their website. The only truffle I didn't get a close-up of was the Rosé because it got smooshed in the delivery. Speaking of delivery, the packaged arrived with an ice pack and, aside from a few slightly deformed truffles, arrived smoothly! I can't wait to physically go to this shop and get freshly made items. They also sell the cutest chocolate bars you've ever seen - they're molded to look like brownstones and they are so detailed and just downright charming. Never a better time than RIGHT THEN to have the cookie while it's fresh out of the bag! Loaded with gooey, creamy milk chocolate and perfectly textured dough, it is amazing with every morsel and I would swear I had an endorphin rush from this cookie. And is that just a hint of kosher salt in the dough complementing the sweet? You mean when you bite into this cookie it bites back? WHAT???? I know you want to get the bon bons and truffles but that cookie? DAYUM! An absolute MUST! I'd share a photo of it but I ATE IT before I could shoot it! And yes, the bon bons are the most stunningly beautiful I have ever seen. They look and shine like marbles and have random designs that remind me of a kaleidoscope. Not just chocolate, but art. It's cute. They have a limited selection thus far. I went and picked up 4 treats and they were ok. There was one that was really tasty, I think it is called "Saturday Morning." It had Fruity Pebbles in it. The people that worked there were nice. Since I live in the area, I try to get to know my neighbors, especially small business owners, as word-of-mouth marketing is important. I made conversation but it felt like they were like, pls GTFOH. Maybe it was almost closing time. lol I look forward to possibly going back when they expand their selection... or nah. Nothing in me is telling me to go back. We LOVED this chocolate shop. We trekked out to Harlem after reading reviews of this place, and fell in love with the chocolate chip cookies. They are better than Levain's, with a little crispy top, which set them apart. We tried the sweet potato truffle, banana cream and the potato chip /coke flavored truffles. Went here after my roommate and I saw a viral tweet about it being the location of the only black woman chocolatier, and realized it was just a few blocks south of our apartment! I was just joining my roommate who was buying a gift for family, but after trying the samples and seeing the options (which included truffles with sweet potato, rosé wine, or whiskey, just to name a few) I left with a pack of six truffles, a delicious hot chocolate well worth the $5 price tag, and the promise to come back soon to buy Christmas gifts for distant relatives and some hot cocoa powder for myself. I always walk past this place and never had a chance to go in but finally I decided to give it a try. It was a cold day so we decided to get the hot chocolate; the owner suggested that we get the combo which saved us a little bit of money. The chocolate chip cookie was so soft which is always a must for me. I'd rank the hot chocolate as being one of the best hot chocolates I have ever had which is a bold statement, slightly above Godiva. It was very rich with a slight salty after-taste covered in marshmallow fluff rather than whipped cream. I'm not a huge marshmallow fan but this was amazing. Since it was so rich, it was a bit hard to finish the whole thing so next time I'll probably get one to share. I didn't get to try any chocolate treats but that's definitely next on my list. read more

This place is super cute. A few friends of mine and I stopped by after enjoying a fabulous meal at Belle Harlem, which is right next door... It looks the way a Harlem chocolate shop should! But enough about looks. Go and buy some chocolate. Yes, most of the truffles are $2.50 (except for the Ace of Spades truffle that is dusted in (real?) gold) but worth it because they are so satisfying, that all you really need is one piece. Support your local women-owned businesses! I didn't realize it at the time, but the woman baking in the back of the store who came out to serve us was actually the owner herself. Now I know that all of those yummy treats are 100% her own creations! I stopped in for hot chocolate, and they have a combo deal in which you can get a hot chocolate and two chocolate chip cookies. The cookies are amazing; they have a little hint of salt in them, which I LOVE with chocolate. The hot chocolate was super rich, and they top it with marshmallow fluff instead of whipped cream. I had never had it like that before, but it was amazing because the marshmallow fluff doesn't dissolve away immediately the way that whipped cream does. The hot chocolate is super rich and indulgent. I will say that I don't like things that are too sweet, and the hot chocolate was amazing for the first few sips and then started to get too rich for me. Whatever you do, don't sleep on the turtles. Hands down one of the best confections I've ever had, and I might have sugar running through my veins I've had so many. The caramel was out of this world, the chocolate so fine, the salted finish just perfect. I ordered both the milk and dark chocolate versions and couldn't even pick a favorite. I also ordered a dozen chocolate chip cookies and won't even pretend I shared them. Don't get me wrong, the truffles are excellent too (even if I didn't even try to guess the flavors - I did 6 Chef's Choice and 6 Sunday Soul but the boxes weren't labeled), but it's the turtles that I will dream about. This is a haven of chocolate creativity. The woman who served me knew her stuff. The displays were as beautiful as the products. So why only 3 stars? SALT. Much, if not most of what was available had salt in it. I don't like sweets with salt, so, among other items, I got the chocolate chip cookie. It was soft, with good chocolate flavor and enough salt to feel crunchy. I never ate a c.c. cookie with 1/4 that much salt. Samuel H. (review above) even said the hot chocolate had a salty after taste. At a time when we know we need to lower our intake, why put so much into our sweets?
