WOW! I haven't had tres leches so good like this in ages. It passes the eye test - spongey cake that is clearly soaked in the milk sauce and does not look dry. It definitely passes the taste test - sweet, milky, and other wonderful descriptors that I'm too small brained to verbalize. After the first bite, I instantly wish I had ordered at least 2 slices. The store is small and is mainly to-go only. They have a small, standing side counter that can fit up to 2 people if you want to eat yours in-store. Lots of other flavors to pick from, but since I was only picking one I had to go with the original. Service is friendly and fast! Oh my god, this place is a dream for anyone who loves Tres Leches! We were staying nearby and my husband suggested we check it out and it is the best decision ever. I tried the original, guava, and pineapple flavors, and I genuinely don't say this lightly - this is hands down some of the best Tres Leches I have ever had. In honor of Hispanic Heritage month I wanted to write about this amazing little shop in East Harlem that has the best tres leches I've ever had outside of home made. The owner Ronaldo Felipe is originally from the Dominican Republic and used to help his grandmother make tres leches which was the inspiration behind opening up his shop. While I love a good story and supporting a minority owned business the main thing I care about is the taste. The tres leches from here is always delicious, moist and just the perfect amount of sweet. Tres Leches Cafe isn't really a cafe. It's a take out for a very popular cake. I made a visit on a Sunday but they are closed Sunday's. This day I returned because all the buzz about how delicious the cake is got to me! I have to admit I tried a piece of Tres Leches cake elsewhere and just didn't care for it. I don't know why I thought this business might be different as most have the same or similar ingredients. Sure enough I got it home (after spending $3.75) I took a couple bites and hated it. It was soggy wet cake floating in a pool of milk. I just don't like this type of cake. I also can't stand flan. I guess it's personal taste. The customer service is excellent and it's a cute tidy shop. I recommend to all of you Tres Leches Lovers. I may return to try their cheesecake as the prices are very reasonable.
