L.A Sweets has some of the best cake/cupcakes ! Seriously, so moist and decadent! I love their red velvet and the toasted coconut pineapple is incredible! Really cute little shop with the sweetest counter staff. Huge fan!

If you want to satisfy a major sweet tooth and sugar rush, L.A. (Loretta Alston) Sweets on Lenox Ave & 120th St will satisfy both. Forget about the lemon olive oil cake I saw listed on the Italian menu just two doors down while my daughter treated me for a pre-Birthday dinner before she went back to the West Coast. It was actually the sweet smell of butter, sugar and vanilla notes all mixed together that made us ditch that olive oil cake. This Black-woman owned bakery is touted by locals (and not)- plus it has major star power backing this place up for her cake slices, cupcakes and Vegan options as well. The space is small- but has a bistro-type table and 2 chairs (could probably fit another small table?). I just see L.A. Sweets as grab & go. The options are almost endless. There's a Devil's Food cake slice I couldn't pass up, I wanted to grab a Carrot piece- but they had just come out of the oven- so no, there were Caramel cupcakes topped with both a Caramel square and drizzle and my daughter got the Red Velvet. Charlotte tending the shop the Saturday we came here was super friendly and gave us a Pecan Bun(?) Cake(?)'on her. Thank you so much! The Caramel cupcakes had a nice size, but the cream on top was thick and wayyy too sweet and the cupcake itself wasn't grand-tasting. The Devil's Chocolate slice though- was very dense but extremely moist and chocolate frosting on the outside and between layers, had a nice flavor. I was rooting for more cocoa flavor- but it was tasty and stayed moist the day after. L.A. (Loretta Alston) is known for a lot of things- but baking cakes from scratch and having a moist end result, ranks top I think. Nice cake slices+cupcakes, moistness, a warm oven, sweet smells that linger and tremendous service and hospitality are just part of L.A.'s base.

Ordered my birthday cake from here a day before my birthday event over the phone . Staff was super sweet . Ordered a classic yellow cake with Chocalete frosting . My boyfriend picked up the cake with no issues . Now let's discuss the cake , let's just say everyone that had a slice at my gathering wanted their information . Thank you so much , will be ordering another cake , matter of fact will be going to get a slice soon .

I've been thinking about the best way to thank L.A. SweetsNY and I settled on telling the world how incredible they are. I started as a takeout customer. Those takeout cake slices are a staple at our house. When we decided to get married we knew our cake had to come from this special bakery. They did not disappoint. The cake was BEAUTIFULLY decorated. It tasted incredible. The sweet lady who took our order told us to get that yummy vanilla creme on the side and THAT WAS A HIT! Multiple people have said they dream about our cake. It was the most perfect addition to our wedding. Thank you form the bottom of our hearts L.A SweetsNY

I'm a fan of sugar. As I child, I would sneak and eat spoonfuls of sugar, which is why I was surprised that I found the red velvet cake way too sugary. The cake was very moist but also dense, and all I tasted was the sugar. I've tried some of their cupcakes, and those were good. After reading so many people raving about the red velvet, I thought I finally found a replacement for Make my Cakes delicious red velvet cake, but this was sugar diabetes type of sweet. I think I need to get some blood work done to make sure I'm not pre-diabetic and I didn't even finish the whole slice.

My friend went inside and grabbed these cupcakes for us. I'm sorry but they look amateurish 1 star deducted. I also was very disappointed in the small sad looking dollop of cream cheese frosting 1 star deducted. The cake taste was very good, moist and a perfect color of red.

Mixed up my order twice!‍ I ordered vanilla and one strawberry. Sent red velvet. I am allergic to the dye. Ok so I settled with the Vanilla cupcake. Horrible. The icing looks as though someone dropped a scoop of icing on them and smeared it with a spoon.

Came to pick up some cupcakes for a birthday today. The bakery is small but has a nice welcoming tone to it. I would say it would've been nice to hear some tunes in the store but it's ok. I got red velvet, dulce de leche and vanilla cupcakes and WOW. Icing was fresh and soft, cupcakes were soft and moist. Sooo delicious. Nayla took care of me and was so fast and friendly. Would definitely come back here. Got 6 cupcakes for $23 which was a reasonable price. The owner was a little busy today but still stopped to greet me and answer my questions. Again definitely a bakery I would visit soon! #Supportblackownedbusinesses

There was a bit of a line, but it moved pretty quickly. I am boring, so I just ordered the plain vanilla cupcake, but it was just perfect. It was fresh and the cake itself was wonderful. We had a big party--everyone was happy, but particularly happy with the cookie dough and red velvet. Definitely worth a visit.

So there is a lot to unpack from my visit to SoHo to pick up a cake from my sister. I woke up at…read more5pm and headed straight here from Queens and chose this place over 4 others close by in the area. I hadn't been here in years so when I pulled up I took a step back to take it all in, the cutesy interior which was clean and not too brightly lit. I checked out the cake prices and flavors and when I was sure of what I wanted I stepped up to the counter and began to take pictures bc there were like 4 attendants and I waited for one to engage with me. A young man did he said are you ready to order I said yes and told him I wanted a strawberry shortcake slice $10 and a Brooklyn black out slice (also $10 and the actual reason I came). When he was boxing I took pictures and thought oh maybe I should switch to the hostess slice (out loud). Another attendant said sure, but then the first one pulled up with the boxes and I was like ok I'll just get a cupcake separate. Why I walk back to the cupcakes to choose and the young man starts helping someone new and I look him in the eye he then rushes over but again starts taking another customer. They were 3 customers in the store in total including me so why he didn't want to provide me service I do not know. But it made me so upset I was like wow am I really gonna spend this much money and this guy is being rude. I had to now get in line behind the 2 other patrons that came in after me. The attendant who rung me up tried to empathize and offered me a free $1 candle- it came from a cup of candle in front of the register and when he placed it on top of the box it rolled onto the counter and I said how many ppl touched that?? It's going in a cake someone is going to eat. I declined the candle, paid and probably will never return. Strawberry shortcake slice was a 6/10 tasted old Hostess cupcake 10/10 I inhaled it no crumbs Brooklyn blackout cake 15/10 moist, thick chocolate perfect. Now I'll tell you right now the birthday cake I got my sister was worth the $25 and change I paid for it. She liked it, I liked it, it made her happy- but the service made me frown I really didn't like it. Total rating 3.5

Okay I was cracking up about my experience here because I literally asked the dumbest question to…read morethe guy working but he was so nice and explained the answer to me until I understood! So fun fact they are now advertising Banana Pudding Hot Chocolate and it is NOT actual hot chocolate but banana pudding made to taste like hot chocolate. Why I got so confused? I don't know! Maybe I have been watching too many videos about Tyra Banks Hot Ice Cream. Either way I appreciate the guys patience and kindness when explaining it to me twice especially because I did not end up ordering that at all (though it sounds interesting) but I did get the regular actual hot chocolate and it was amazing! It tasted like melted marshmallows were in it! Perfect for a cold winter day. In addition we got to the humming bird cake, a cupcake, and the regular banana pudding. My husband had never been here before so you know we had to get the banana pudding, it's their claim to fame. And it is decent. Growing up in North Carolina banana pudding is taken very seriously and is literally at every gathering. Would this be a contender for the cookout? Sure! I have no complaints about. The other baked items were delicious as well. The store is cute unfortunately this location has no indoor seating but plenty of outdoor. It was like negative degrees when we went so we definitely did not sit outside. All and all it's a cute bakery/ sweets shop. There are many locations through out the city. I've been to others and it is consistent. It's definitely not a bad dessert spot to try.

Another employee, Kirk--an older gentleman who looked completely out of place--approached and coughed directly over the slice of cake that had just been cut for me. Yes. Over it. At that moment, I honestly wondered if it was intentional. A young woman nearby immediately caught my reaction and went to the back to replace the slice. She handled the situation professionally and deserves recognition. Unfortunately, the chaos continued. Kirk later made me a hot cocoa, and when I went to drink it, it spilled on me because the lid wasn't secured properly. At that point, I stopped believing in coincidences. And the cake? The German chocolate cake was terrible--dry AF and nothing like the Grand Central location. Not even remotely close. Between the coughing, the spill, and the subpar cake, this visit was uncomfortable, messy, and disappointing. Magnolia should seriously reconsider who they put on the floor and retrain accordingly--because this location is not living up to the brand. But honestly, I believe the 2 guys had to be the owners. While the presentation was 10/10 across the board, the flavors ranged from "nostalgic perfection" to "a bit of a letdown." Devil Dog (The Winner): This was by far my favorite. It was a trip down memory lane, perfectly capturing that nostalgic Hostess chocolate cupcake flavor I loved as a kid. Lemon Raspberry Meringue: Coming in a close second, this cupcake was bright, fruity, and incredibly fresh. It felt light and offered a great balance to the richer flavors in the box. Ube: This cupcake was stunning to look at. However, the flavor didn't quite live up to the exotic profile of a purple yam; it tasted like a traditional vanilla cupcake that just happened to be purple. Great for the aesthetic, but standard in taste. Hummingbird: This was the only real disappointment. I was expecting the signature tropical punch of pineapple, but it lacked that acidity. Instead, it felt more like a simple banana nut muffin with icing on top. Final Verdict: Overall, the experience was positive. The shop clearly has a talent for decor and nostalgia. I'd definitely return for the Devil Dog and the Lemon Raspberry, but I might skip the Hummingbird next time. Last Note: The woman working in the bakery was a bit rude and had an attitude and that alone will make me not com back no matter how good the cupcakes are.
