Let me just get right to the point. These cakes are out of this world! We didn't plan on stopping anywhere to grab dessert, however, this delightful bakeshop is right next-door to the establishment we went to get hot cocoa at. And boy oh boy are we so thankful that we decided to stop in and give them a try. I had the strawberry crunch cake which was filled with so many flavors and the most important flavor which was the strawberry crunch brought me back to my childhood with the good humor, strawberry crunch ice cream bars. My friend had the vanilla and chocolate cake and he said it was the best cake he's ever had. The customer service is just as great as the cakes. From the minute, we walked in to the minute we paid and were headed out the bakers the chefs and the owner were all amazing folks. I was so disappointed in the dried out peach cobbler stiff shelled crust no syrup no taste just canned peaches and dough. I do not know what we think we deserve list the south excellent cobbler I did not gobble at all you look . The pond cake dry, thick and the lemon drizzle could have covered the look of the I will head bake downtown and get my sweet taste. I was bloated, stuffed and nauseated ready for the dumb and out of the ingredients. I do not know what we call our selves but none of this was from scratch. If you want to satisfy a major sweet tooth and sugar rush, L.A. (Loretta Alston) Sweets on Lenox Ave & 120th St will satisfy both. Forget about the lemon olive oil cake I saw listed on the Italian menu just two doors down while my daughter treated me for a pre-Birthday dinner before she went back to the West Coast. It was actually the sweet smell of butter, sugar and vanilla notes all mixed together that made us ditch that olive oil cake. This Black-woman owned bakery is touted by locals (and not)- plus it has major star power backing this place up for her cake slices, cupcakes and Vegan options as well. The space is small- but has a bistro-type table and 2 chairs (could probably fit another small table?). I just see L.A. Sweets as grab & go. The options are almost endless. There's a Devil's Food cake slice I couldn't pass up, I wanted to grab a Carrot piece- but they had just come out of the oven- so no, there were Caramel cupcakes topped with both a Caramel square and drizzle and my daughter got the Red Velvet. Charlotte tending the shop the Saturday we came here was super friendly and gave us a Pecan Bun(?) Cake(?)'on her. Thank you so much! The Caramel cupcakes had a nice size, but the cream on top was thick and wayyy too sweet and the cupcake itself wasn't grand-tasting. The Devil's Chocolate slice though- was very dense but extremely moist and chocolate frosting on the outside and between layers, had a nice flavor. I was rooting for more cocoa flavor- but it was tasty and stayed moist the day after. L.A. (Loretta Alston) is known for a lot of things- but baking cakes from scratch and having a moist end result, ranks top I think. Obsessed with this place! They have a variety of cakes, cupcakes, pastries and more with plenty of vegan and non-vegan options, so there's something for everybody. My favorite is their strawberry crunch cake, which is so unique and beyond delicious! I'm a fan of sugar. As I child, I would sneak and eat spoonfuls of sugar, which is why I was surprised that I found the red velvet cake way too sugary. The cake was very moist but also dense, and all I tasted was the sugar. I've tried some of their cupcakes, and those were good. After reading so many people raving about the red velvet, I thought I finally found a replacement for Make my Cakes delicious red velvet cake, but this was sugar diabetes type of sweet. I have been to this bakery so many times, making this my favorite spot for baked goods. Its a lovely little bakery shop thats ideal for a "pickup and go" type of order. I usually order custom vanilla frosting on vanilla cakes from here, but when I am ordering cupcakes and cake slices through YELP I'll choose the pineapple coconut, vanilla, or lemon curd flavors. The frosting is soooo YUMMY and reminds me of a good ole home-made classic frosting from mom's kitchen- so delicious! AND that pineapple coconut cake is everything guys- you have to stop by and try it!! There is a cool array of wall pictures showcasing the owner with many celebrities that she has worked with or met over the years which I thought was just really cool. Customer service is always quite pleasant here as well. The owner and I usually engage in a little chit-chat as she's boxing up my order. Now there is no specific parking for this business...you will have to pull up in front the business and be prepared to pick up your order and head right back to your car; this is a typical approach for alot of these NYC businesses unless you can find a parking meter nearby. The woman who helped me. accommodated my order by making me their vegan apple crisp, which they only offer as a cupcake. I asked nicely if she could make it as a 10inch cake and she said ok. This place nailed my first rule of any food establishment! Aroma aroma aroma soon as I hit the corner it hit me, a bakery should smell like a bakery if it finest well I don't know what to say. Normally 8 out of 10 times you try a cake and the icing is where all the flavor and moisture is but not this vanilla cake it's was moist fluffy it had flavor and bold character. I had to ask him where he got it and he told me la sweets ny. So I new I had to check them out, I usually don't pay $7 for a slice of cake but this cake was worth it I didn't feel disappointed plus it was a king size slice for the man in my belly .
