Everyone in there knows my name when i walk in there are some really great artist in here i have gotten tattooed by BJ ( whom i have the biggest crush on he knows hes bae lol ) he did my first tattoo it was a black feather (40$) it was very neat and healed in like 2-3 days he was very gentle a little serious but hes usually always like that hes actually really nice from me knowing him a while. The manager is really cool funny and energetic. I got a few things done here the piercer this time ( his names dre ). Hes not there all he time but when he is hes a tall handsome guy very friendly he did my belly surface piercing (25$) which came out great . I did my belly button piercing (25$) here also ( they are very sanitary i forgot to mention which is a plus !). Fresh needles & gloves and i got my cartilage piercing ( back when it was 2 for 30 my ex bestfriend and i got it done i got one and she got one) and my second tattoo was done by Rey he's a Spanish fellow i got a name done he was also very nice he speaks and laughs with you to get the edge off because i got a side breast tattoo. (40$) Overall good place -tattoo prices vary on size and placement -friendly staff very cool and comforting , great atmosphere -sanitary/ cleanly - decor isn't much but that isn't what you came for anyway. - they play music for you to enjoy read more

I got my nose pierced here. It never healed, when it finally did for more than 2 weeks, I went to another shop to get the ring changed. They said no one uses the ring that Harlem Hype uses anymore, then they changed my piercing to a hoop and it looked terrible, because my piercer at Harlem placed it in a WHACK place and I didn't know. I can only wear a stud in it because he placed it in such a bad place. The entire experience took like 15 seconds too. I really regret coming here. While visiting NYC, my friend and I stopped in to get her a new nose ring.While there Dre' and I got to talking and I ended up making an appointment for a tattoo. This is my first tattoo, and my artist Jay was superb. He made me feel really comfortable and it didn't hurt that he was cute (LOL). I would definitely recommend Harlem Hype to others. It was clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, and the staff was friendly. The front counter guy even gave me a hug after I left. Came in to get my nose pierced at the beginning of this year, months later my pierce had never healed/closed. I was told to leave the ring in for 6 months before changing it but when I went to do so after those months, I realized it was not healed. My piercing has now closed up and I'm thinking of traveling somewhere else for a hopefully better experience. read more

Review is a bit overdue , but better late than never, right? Anywho, I came in two weeks ago and came like twenty minutes before close . The owner pierced my nose and did not rush at all. Greeted me when I came in; and I called beforehand to confirm the location and the owner was pleasant all around. I was going yo go to Elite on Astor/St. Marks Place but the person on the phone kept pushing their product saying like five times a second "that you'd have to purchase a piece from us in order to pierce your nose" . Like I was going to buy some overpriced gold filled jewelry you bought wholesale from China ?! Okay The owner asked questions on terms of whether or not I purchased it offline and is it real golf. I answered yes to both as it was . No sales gimmicks or bull with these people . The owner's wife made small talk with me too and while the owner was preparing the tools he was asking if I'm familiar with the area and I told him yes since I went to high school in the area. As I saw him get the needle out I became a bit apprehensive and he was super patient and did not laugh even with me screaming before the needle went through (you get the point, haha ) , super professional . It was over in a few seconds like he said and he was right about only one tear coming out of my left eye . I want to get my Cupid's bow done and I will certainly do it here ! Oh, and he got the placement right; I told him not too close but not too far apart either. Do the right thing unto yourself and get pierced by a pro AND SUPPORT BLACK OWNED BUSINESSES! !!!!DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! This review is long overdue but here we go. Back in October I got the number 10 tattooed on my finger by a guy named Al and he did a good job (refer to first picture). I went to get it touched up a second time at Harlem Hype and they did well. However, the third time I went back for a touch up, a guy named Ratchet tattooed the wrong thing on me?? Instead of 10, he tattooed "OJ" on my finger. Really. How is that even possible? How is someone so careless when permanently altering someone else's body? (Refer to the second picture)He didn't even care and when I called to complain to the manager, Dizzo, he told me it was my issue and was very rude to me. Terrible service and poor tattoo "artists" have brought me to be that salty bitch on yelp. If I can give you any advice at all, it is to avoid this place at all costs. Walked in without an appt Bc my helix piercing had fallen out the night before. The location is hard to find- minimal signage and in the back of a barber shop - but Rich was super friendly and helpful. He offered to try to put the original piercing back in or I could buy an earring from them. Ended up purchasing a $10 silver hoop which he put in quickly and painlessly. Rich was super attentive and thoughtful and I appreciated the lack up upselling - didn't even try to sell me overpriced "care" solutions. I recently moved to Sugar Hill. My partner and I wanted to get our ears pierced. Harlem Hype was excellent! Our piercer said he was the cutest piercer in Harlem, lol. He did a great job and was definitely cute. The store was glean, private, and didn't cost a ridiculous amount. Some shops on the lower east side wanted to charge $25-$30 an ear, that is insane. You can choose if you want your ears pierced with the gun or a needle. The clamps came out of an unopened autoclave bag and I watched him take both needles out of brand new packaging. They also do tattoos and can pierce anything you want. If I ever decide to get something else I would definitely go back. read more

Harlem Hype is clean, the staff is professional, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. I went to get a few cartilage piercings done, brought my own earrings, and was out with gorgeous ears in 30 minutes flat. The staff does a thorough job cleaning the area, making sure everything is even, and uses a needle for accuracy. Hardly any swelling occurred even hours after I left. I had a very negative experience here. I came in to get a piece of jewelry replaced. When I entered, TV's were blaring so they echoed from different rooms, which didn't exactly give a great vibe but I figured, who cares. A man greeted me and put me in touch with the piercer, a professional and helpful woman. I described what I needed and was told my barbell would be $10, plus $5 for her to insert it. I took out my card to pay, and was told there would be a $2 "tax" for using the credit card. When I demurred, the woman got her manager, who was the same man I'd met before. He rung me up for $15. First problem: being asked to pay before seeing the jewelry. Turns out, they only had an externally-threaded barbell available, with a different sized ball than I needed. The piercer was understanding when I apologetically told her I'd need to cancel the transaction, since they didn't stock the jewelry I needed. She said I'd need to speak with her manager to get a refund. So I spoke with the manager man, who informed me he couldn't offer me a refund through his system (??) and I would need to contact my credit card company directly. Second, larger problem: charging customers for a good/service and then being "unable" to reverse the transaction when the customer doesn't receive said item/service. I wanted to give them a shot and support local business in my neighborhood, but I'm about to head back down to NY Adorned to get this fixed up. ETA: in the wake of the above review, I received a very nice message from the owner of the store. He seems to be trying to run the business in a more conscientious way than I experienced and I hope he succeeds in this. read more

Can't say that I was truly happy with what I had done. 1) I was quoted one price $25 on the phone the night before but when I went in the next day I was told it was $30. It was just $5 more which wasn't ridiculous so I didn't complain about that. But I got a septum piercing and it was crooked . So I ended up taking it out a day later. BUT the guy who did it was sexy cocoa man so I wasn't too mad. Though I might not go back there for a piercing though. Sorry guys. read more

Not a flashy place people are nice, it's clean, priced affordably, and i was in and out in less than 30 mins. Most of which was my fault calming my service dog in the other room because he was losing his mind that we were separated and someone was hurting me. Lol i recommended people already. Nose piercing went smoothly speedily and im not swollem or have any pain at all. I didnt notice though until I got home that the ring was so far away from my nostril so once it heals I'll go back to have that adjusted. I called a few places on Saturday after looking places up via yelp. I came across two, one place didn't answer their phone and this place answered on the third ring. I was starting to get discouraged and figured tattoo parlors weren't interested in making money on a Saturday. The manager I spoke to was very pleasant and told me to come right over. When I walked in, the place wasn't anything to write home about but that's ok because the staff was friendly and very personable. Who could ask for anything more. I wanted one tattoo until I asked if the artist could do hieroglyphs for Live Love Laugh. Once I was told yes, the manager gave me a great price both tattoos. B.J is the artist that did my tattoos. He's very serious and not much of a talker but after my first tattoo, I think I got him to warm up a bit. :-) I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to get tattooed in Harlem...not black ink who is over priced and always empty. read more

I went here with a specific spiritual tattoo request a while back. The place was empty but very clean and the guy at the counter took me in right away. I felt that the price was fair considering I was qouted higher at a close by parlor on the same avenue. I only waited for maybe 15 minutes while the only artist there, for the time being, was finishing on someone else. It was my first tattoo and the guy (I seriously don't remember his name) was cool about my questions regarding pain and management after. I actually didn't feel any pain and I was very pleased with the results. I regret not tipping, as I was sort of pressed for time for work and bolted out, but no one chased me out the door demanding it. I only noticed when I was far away at that point. I am considering going back soon and won't make the same mistake. Overall, no complaints. read more

Went here for a facial piercing and the piercer was unsure if he should use a needle or a gun. After piercing my nose, he refused to use the tool that is normally used to get jewelry in a fresh piercing, so I had to sit in pain waiting for him to find the fresh hole himself. It was a very unprofessional decision and I'm definitely going elsewhere the next time I need something done. It'll save me the pain and time! read more

Sunday, August 23, 2015 - Called Harlem Hype and asked how much it was for a single earring piercing for a child. The (fast talking) guy who answered told me, they don't give prices over the phone, but if I came in they'd tell me everything I needed to know. I understood him not giving pricing info. over the phone and asked what were the day's hours for piercing. He told me and three hours later I traveled all the way to the store. Walked in to what was a clean, airy space and was told, "My piercer is not in today, but do you want a tattoo? " I told him, "I called and came all they way here to get my child's ear pierced today!" He said, "I know, but YOU can get a tattoo instead, the piercer will be in tomorrow." The saying that came to my mind as I was leaving - "God protects fools and babies." SMH read more

Decent place but awful tattoo artist!! Tattoo artist wasn't enthused to do my tattoo at all ! He couldn't even put the stencil sketch on straight I had to tell him twice to straighten up the position and so did the other person I was with who was getting a tattoo with me! Also over priced for a small finger tattoo! I will never go back to this place! The tattoo artist did not do what I asked him or what was drawn out, he completely did his own thing! My finer tattoo is fading only after 3 weeks of getting it! I'm so pissed off and feel as though I completely wasted my money and now I have to go to a actual professional shop to re-do my tattoo!
