I put specifics and they actually read them and it was correct. I always get the mofongos, tostones, rice and beans, pernil...but I was sad I didn't see the flan! I hope they decide to add it. I am obsessed! This place is hands down better than any other restaurant on the peninsula and south side.

Pre-pandemic, this was a place where we would have dine-in visits with friends of ours from a social group or just the two of us. It was probably close to a year since we last appeared so it was time to stop by. Similiar to the past visits, I called in our orders. They greeted me promptly when I walked in where there was only one table occupied. Quick and easy. For our orders, which both served as dinner and lunch for work at our respective sites, we chose their Cubano sandwich with our usual sides (fries for myself and plantains for Sophia). As always, the sandwich was pretty good packed with ham and roasted pork, pickles, cheese and mustard (both had no mayo). I would've liked for more fries in the box, but I had enough for both servings. La Pena Horeb came through once again. You know I'll be ordering takeout from here down the road. Till next time :)

Their dishes are a mix of Colombian, Puerto Rican and Mexican. Let's see how my first time went. Our table was already seated when I walked in. The decor inside was beautiful and spotless. On the TVs, they were showing the World Cup in action. The match was Panama versus England. Fun times if you're into soccer. After looking over the menu, I was ready to order. My selection was Pollo Hawaiiano, a dish popular in Colombia. It consists of grilled chicken, bacon, melted cheese and pineapple sauce. Refried beans and rice were the sides. The dish itself was fine. The chicken was two thin pieces and a slice of ham cooked well with melted cheese on top. It was interesting to have pineapple sauce covering the protein. I believe it was my second time having a Colombian dish (first being 2012) so I had to get used with all the ingredients coming together with every bite. The rice was cooked very well, but the refried beans weren't completely mashed and needed salt. I ate everything except the beans since I was getting full. For a first timer, I thought it was good. The dish didn't blow me away, but the service we receive was really good. So I'll give them another shot :)

We started off with the Pastel wrapped in banana leaves, Alcapurrias and relleno de papas. I give the pastel a 4.5 out of five. The relleno de papas a 4 out of five and the Alcapurrias a 3 out of 5. Keep in mind I am comparing this to my mother's home cooking. The pastel was almost perfect. The meat as seasoned very well but not as tender as what my mother used to make. The masa was perfect! The relleno de papas was seasoned very differently than what I am accustomed to but still very yummy. The Alcapurrias were lacking in flavor. My son ordered the Bistec Encebollado with Rice and beans and he was so happy that this dish was very close to our family recipe. My daughter in law ordered the Pernil sandwich which she absolutely loved. My son tasted it and said it was the best he'd ever eaten! My husband ordered the Cuban sandwich which he said had a Puerto Rican flair to it. Puerto Rican Pernil is much different than Cuban Roast Pork which is what he is used to as we live in Miami, FL I only had the appetizers as I was not too hungry to begin with but I was able to taste everything and this restaurant is being added to my favorites list! I will be coming here every time I visit my family. The service was quick and very friendly!

I truly mean every state including Hawaii and Alaska. There is no place I felt so connected to the gastronomy flavors of the island like Chino Criollo. A true gem. There is more to the menu than I expected. I got the pork chop combo and my wife mofongo con carne frita. Huge portions, amazing flavor, I went back in time to the #7 menu in my hometown Chinese restaurant. You have to try it to believe it. Wish Chino Criollo the best. Keep it up. See you tomorrow and next time we are in town.

I wasn't particularly impressed with my food at Chino Criollo. It was my first time having mofongo,…read moreso it was hard for me to tell if I just don't like mofongo or if I don't like how they make it. I ordered beef with broccoli, and the portion was huge. I had enough leftovers for a second dinner. The rice and fries were very plain - could use more veggies and salt respectively. The main dish itself wasn't a standout but hit the spot. My girlfriend, on the other hand, did not like her garlic chicken. The garlic taste was absolutely overwhelming, and the sauce was very thick and creamy. Not exactly what either of us were expecting from Chinese garlic chicken. She tried her best, bless her heart, but only ate maybe 1/3 of her dish and did not care to save the rest for leftovers. I would encourage you to try Chino Criollo to support local businesses, but do be careful because you might not end up getting what you expect.
