Hands down the best jerk chicken in RVA. The oxtail, served twice a week (Wednesdays and Fridays) is sublime. And Moses always greets you with a smile and a genuine "how are you today?" I am surprised that there aren't more reviews for this cart. This is the favorite cart for many of the students and staff on the MCV campus. Their food is so flavorful and the guy who works the cart is so friendly and personable and he gives you heaping portions. They offer items from jerk chicken to ox tail here and everything is delicious! Their small sampler is enough to stuff me for the rest of the day but I like it the best since it has the different types of chicken [their curry chicken is my favorite]. Glad I took a chance on this place. I've been craving Caribbean food for ever. Since I've been in VA I haven't had any. I'm from Harlem where there's an abundance of Caribbean spots. I got the Small Sampler with Jerk and Stew chicken (my favorites that order at any Caribbean place). This came with rice and peas(beans), cabbage and plantains and a drink for $7. ($7.75 is the exact amount paid). The jerk chicken has a mild spice to it. If you handle spicy things well you'll enjoy it, if not I'd say just get stew chicken. Both are very flavorful. Rice & peas were perfect and I didn't eat the cabbage (don't usually like it. Should've told them no cabbage but I forgot). Just got so excited when I found this yelp page that these folks had a physical restaurant so I could go back for dinner tonight. Until I realized the address was just the card location. SO GOOD. Curry chicken was greeeeat. I wasn't sure how spicy it was going to be so I didn't get any hot sauce -- super tasty, but it wasn't that spicy at all, so next time I'll definitely get some of that homemade hot sauce. Grilled plantains were perfect, although I rarely meet a plantain I don't like. Also, they had a really good set up, he had a giant bottle of hand sanitizer he used every time after handing money and had a pile of quarters set out for change. There was a really long line but it didn't take but 5 minutes for me to be walking away with my pile of food. I decided to try this truck because a few people recommended it and they weren't kidding. You can't go wrong. I had 4 kinds of chicken and it's all sooo good! And the hot sauce is actually spicy! I find myself craving this cart all the time. They have a sampler if you want to try all of the different types of meats they have to offer on top of rice and cabbage with a couple plantains to top it off, but the curry chicken is my favorite. It even comes in a pita! The shark sauce is super spicy. The guy who runs the cart is awesome and friendly, and will be nice enough to offer you a habenero if he notices you asking for a lot of hot sauce. And the platters come with a free lemonade! I could eat this everyday! The only thing I would avoid is the beef patty. You might be better off with the ones from costco or 7/11 if that's what you're craving. read more

If you're hungry, I would recommend the "barbecue jerk", which is a helping of the already yummy boneless jerk chicken that gets briefly simmered on the grill with homemade barbecue sauce that has a sweet, gingery, molasses-y taste, served with the usual rice and beans, plantains, and cabbage. The food is good, the people are friendly but you have to catch them during the warmer season because during winter they are gone on vacation. And because they are so popular get there early because they tend to run out of the good stuff fast. Even though I've seen the prices go up over the years it's still pretty reasonable for cart food especially considering the fact that portions are big. read more

Just got back from a trip to Puerto Rico and I needed a similar fix. Boy was I glad I tried Caribbean Grill. SO GOOD. The red beans and race are very tasty the jerk chicken is cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Their Beef patties are excellent! Make sure you get them with Gravy, Onions, and hot sauce! I was not impressed with this place at all. I've been on the MCV campus for a few weeks and I had walked past this place a few times and saw that there was a huge line and thought, "Wow that cart must be pretty good." I later found out that that was not the reason why the line was so long. I waited in line for like 20 minutes at noon for them to start cooking and get set up. It took forever to get the food and most of it wasn't even warm and didn't taste very good. I got the sampler so I could try all of the meats and I literally only got like one piece of each meat and most of them were cold. The really upsetting part was that I was excited for the plantains that were supposed to come with the sampler and they weren't finished cooking them yet so they weren't able to give me any. The only thing I enjoyed was my soda because they had cups of ice for them and that was refreshing from a food cart. Other than that thiugh, I was very disappointed. I'm thinking maybe they were having a bad day because all of the other reviews were great but I dont thing that I will be trying to eat there again. read more
