Despite the increasing cost of emission to this place, it's quite a museum to check out. Whether you like motorcycles or not, the exhibits and history of this motorcycle manufacturer are interesting and a large part of American history and culture. I found the Hollywood section most attractive with galleries of bikes from various classic American films such as T2 and Easy Rider. You can get a tour if you want but I found it more enjoyable walking around and exploring myself. The models and galleries contain ton information and background behind the makings of the bikes which provide a nice history lesson. Not to mention there's a gift shop and restaurant attached, both worth exploring just for the merchandise and atmosphere themselves. Definitely a cool place to check out when you're in Milwaukee. Review is from 2019. Was in Milwaukee for a business trip and had some time to burn. My co-workers decided to check this place out since Milwaukee is kinda limited in terms of touristy stuff during the winter. First of all none of us were motorcycle fans but we all loved this museum. Plenty of history and modern tech on display. I really like the interactive section of the museum where it explained some of the early engine technology. Also loved the section where you could sit on some bikes and take pictures. They have a pretty cool gift shop too. I picked up some souvenir poker chips with the museum logo on it. Family vacation 2021...bringing the California variant of COVID-19 to your city. It was blasphemy. I visited Milwaukee without going inside the Harley Davidson Museum. I was there, but, I went with my wife and daughter who could care less about Harleys. I didn't want to pay the $60+ for the three of us to go in for a speed tour of 60 minutes or less of the museum. I almost wanted to make them sit in the hot car with the AC on while I visited the museum, but, I decided not to. So we compromised. We went to their gift shop instead. The gift shop is located outside of the museum itself. But, it gets you close enough. We were able to walk around outside and see 2 motorcycles on display. It was nice how they set up motorcycle parking right in front of the museum. There were lots of Harleys in their parking lot. Most of the owners were friendly and let you take photos of their motorcycles. The gift shop itself was pretty nice. They actually had 2 shops. We went into the real gift shop first, but, were told that we needed to go to their other shop for clearance merchandise. Clearance sale was the magic word for us. They had a lot of merchandise for sale. I was able to pick up some sweet souvenirs. Yeah, it was blasphemy. I drove there in my rental minivan. We didn't enter the museum. But, we did have a fun time walking the campus and at their gift shop. Next time, I'm ditching the wife and child! read more

Awesome place to visit! I loved spending a couple of hours at the HDM walking around to find out more about the history of HD. I added the audio tour to get some extra HD history. Finally made the visit and enjoyed every minute of it. Even got a little tour behind the cages of the archives (this was our favorite part). The restaurant was really good and the bikes on display were amazing. Was in Chicago for the weekend and decided to stop by the Harley Museum (we have a Streetglide and love Harley). This museum is really big and nice to explore. You have the choice to get the audio or DIY tour without audio. I really loved the layout and how they displayed the motorcycles with it's history and different pictures. There is a section where you can hear different engine sounds, you can get on some motorcycles & take great pictures. I believe there may be a couple other interactive things to do as well. There are beautiful displays of old letters, pictures, awards, clothing, etc displayed on the walls. You must check out their awesome motorcycle tank wall. All of the tank designs/colors they've had in the past to current day. There were a few I'd pick out for myself (if I had my own bike) :) Right outside of the museum, there is a gift shop and a bar/restaurant of course all decked out with motorcycle designs - all pretty cool. We didn't have time to sit in the restaurant because we had somewhere else to be but looked inside and it looked really nice and big. I am pretty sure you can get your Harley serviced here too. You must go to the HD Museum!! read more

Ok I have driven past the museum hundreds of times and I have never stopped so today I stopped by to check it out. Parking is free so they don't gouge you like some tourists traps and they have a restaurant right across from the front door to make a nice short day activity. Next to the restaurant is the gift shop which is nice because it's separate from the museum which is no interest to me. I will admit that it is smaller than I expected but it is still cool to visit. When you walk in serial number 1 is on the right which is the oldest Harley in the world, 1903 but doesn't match the known early Harleys engine or frame for some reason ??. The tsunami bike from Japan is just raw devastation from Mother Nature on display. All kinds of bikes are on display from police, military, custom, racing, street, mail, delivery etc etc. The wall of painted tanks is really cool that leads you to the hall of factory buildings pictures and architectural drawings of the buildings. At the end of the tour is an area of stationary bike of various styles that you can sit on and take pictures or just get a feel of the bikes. Overall it's an easy walk with two floors of displays and not huge so it's as little as 45 minutes to take in or as long as you want to make it. It's a nice example of the history from the factory's to the products and how they were used by people over time. read more

This is a "must-see" museum. The entire history of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle company in this museum, and done extremely well. From the beginnings to the present, everything you need to know about the production of their motorcycles. It was very informative, and had many exhibits showcasing the past and present. Everything from the formation of the company - complete with pictures and items from the past - to explanations of the various motors over the years and how the motorcycle has been produced. I'm fairly disappointed Since I was here 10 years ago things changed not for the better. The oldest bike I was able to see was a 1911, which skip the whole first generation motors that had to be oiled occasionally while riding, and I wanted to get a picture, not happening. Another disappointment is it they have two apparel buildings. It could've been condensed into one and then use the other building to display all the new motorcycles available today. What the hell! If you were interested in a new bike and came to the museum wouldn't it be nice to see all the new bikes on display? Lame marketing. Knowing what I know I would still pay the $22, but save your five dollars on the audio device which just drags on and on. read more

Great trip! What a wonderful museum. We're not H-D enthusiasts but had a lot of fun. Our almost 5 year old daughter loved it. A few things for her to do, in addition to the many many photo opps. The collection was displayed so nicely, such a cool modern look. Highly recommend! read more

Really enjoyed our visit. I always wanted to see the place, but we don't get to this side of the world very often. In any case, happened to be in Madison on business and decided to drive over on the Sunday before work. It was well worth the drive. The facilities are well laid out, lots and lots of bikes on display, great overview of the company's history and products, all in all a lot of fun. They have a factory outlet and museum store in the same complex, along with a nice beer and burger joint that makes an excellent hamburger. We couldn't help but grab lunch and a few souvenirs on the way out. If you like motorcycles, it's a pretty amazing place to visit. read more

We are avid Harley people, so when we get to the gift shop part of the museum we were disappointed that they did not have plus and bigger sizes available. Really cool museum, and the way they did the lay out of the history of HD was really interesting. There's interactive activities to do which is fun if you have young ones along with you, but also just fun to do in general. We did the general admissions ticket so there was no set time we had to go. There's also an audio tour you can do, that's an additional $5 to the general admission. It's cool cause you can skip around, you don't have to go in order. It's right on the river so you can walk along that. There's a gift shop, a restaurant, and live music on some days as well. The restaurant outside has giant Connect 4, giant Jenga, and cornhole boards. Masks are optional but they do encourage it and they encourage social distancing as well. read more

This place was pretty cool. It wasn't the best museum we went to on our trip to Milwaukee but it was definitely worth the money. It was cool to see how many different weird kinds of bikes they used to have back in the day. There were a lot of things I wanted from the gift shop but most were just insanely priced but I get it- it's a gift shop. I recommend coming if you live in Milwaukee and have never been or if you're on a trip from farther away like me and my boyfriend were. It takes up a good hour and a half. read more

While visiting Milwaukee, my husband wanted to visit the Harley Davidson Museum. I am not a motorcycle enthusiast but I did find a lot of the history of Harley Davidson's bikes came to be and the company's efforts in helping with the war. Admission will cost you $20 for adults but $14 for the elderly, students and military. It will be $10 for children and an additional $4 if you wish to have the audio tour. We didn't get the audio tour and think we were able to learn a great of information without it (but if you wish to pay extra, it probably wouldn't hurt). The museum has only 2 floors but there are plenty of bikes to look at (on the bottom floor, you have the opportunity to sit on several and take photos. Also you are able to ride an actual motorcycle if you come to the museum on Saturdays (9 am- 5 pm) as long as you are 18+ and above. This demo ride opportunity is based on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. You have to sign a waiver and riders must have a motorcycle license or a motorcycle endorsed licence. During our visit, I thought it was really interesting to learn about Vivian Bales, known as the "Albany Girl", whom was born in Albany, Georgia. After she graduated from high school, she worked as a dance teacher and bought herself a Harley-Davidson Model B single motorcycle. Vivian was a slender and petite woman and decided to ride her bike from Albany to St. Petersburg, Florida, well over 300 miles (quite ambitious for a first ride). Vivian taught herself how to ride motorcycle. Once a Harley Davidson dealer found out about Vivian's journey, it was arranged for her to be featured in the newspaper. Eventually she was featured in larger newspapers and went on even longer trips and became rather famous in the late 1920's. She even got to meet President Hoover when she rode her bike all the way to Washington DC. Talk about a strong woman! It was interesting to see the very first motorcycle that Harley Davidson made, along with other vehicles (that did not become rather popular, thus no longer made to this day) that was once sold (including a boat and golf cart). I liked the small kids section on the first floor. Kids can try on cute black or pink leather jackets and matching hats and sit on a motorcycle and read books that have a them of motorcycles. Kids can also color motorcycle creations in this little kids corner too. There is a little Evel Knievel tribute that is close by the area where you can sit on read motorcycles and take photos. There is a photo cut out so you can stick your head where Evel Knieval's head would be, sitting on a motorcycle or play an arcade game where you control Evel Knievel on a bike (made by Harley Davidson) and fly over numerous of cars and objectives. During our visit, we were here for about 1.5 hours. We visited the gift shop (things are just to pricey, but that is to be expected). There is a restaurant available here and parking here is free. There is also free WiFi. Overall, we had an enjoyable visit and would recommend checking it out, even if you aren't a bit motorcycle fan. read more

Pretty cool museum if you are into Harleys. We came here with a bunch of kids and they all seemed to like it. There is a section where you can actually sit on a bunch of the bikes. Kids and adults all enjoyed trying out the bikes and taking pictures on them. There is a small section for little kids to try on biker gear and color, etc. The gift shop here is fairly large and you can pick up a lot of cool items from the inexpensive to the very expensive. read more

Full disclosure: I'm not that big of a motorcycle fan, but I've come out of this museum with a newfound appreciation for the dedication and hard work it took to craft this vehicle. It is something that is highly regarded whenever people come to Milwaukee and arguably unique due to the immense history Harley Davidson (HD) has with this city. You'll get to experience everything HD while at this museum. Honestly the museum isn't too big, but there are a moderate amount of exhibits to see. There are a few interactive activities, but the were free and far between. It was cool to see the history of HD and the role in played in society, the war, and internationally. I finished the museum after about 1.5 hours, which is a little on the short side, but I can see people spending 3 hours at most. I don't expect anyone to the spend the ENTIRE day here unless you read every nook and cranny of every exhibit. If you're into motorcycles, this is a must. If you're not, this could make for a decent detour while in Milwaukee! read more

Maybe they did not have any coffee. The display and history of bikes is well presented here. My fav part is towards the end when u can sit on a bike if your choice and take pics. Totally cool, spacious, and educational museum on the history of the Harley-Davidson factory and motorcycle models. There's something here for everyone, regardless of previous knowledge. I learned so much and loved seeing all of the iterations of the Harley and its engine. It's a quintessentially American industry and has its home in Milwaukee. The two-story museum begins on the top floor with the early models of the Harley. There are small placards next to each model that explain its conception and differences. Many of the models are restored, but some are unrestored and in their original condition. There are lots of other artifacts on display too, from banners to posters to clothing. The lower floor brings you up to present day with the latest models and cultural influences. There are some motorcycles you can sit on at the end of the exhibit. Photos are allowed throughout the space! It's easy to see why Harley-Davidson has established such a loyal and knowledgeable fan base. I did notice that most of the exhibits feature white individuals in the U.S. and Europe; it'd be interesting to see the history of the Harley in more communities. The restaurant was super cool too. From the decor to bar games to grassy back yard, I was really impressed with the whole museum campus. Stop by the gift shop for some t-shirts and keepsakes! read more

*3 due to price of entry I am not a Harley rider or interested in being one, but I am a history buff and like to learn about all sorts of different things. I enjoyed this museum and it does a good job covering the origins of the company and tracing its history through time. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the motorcycles and appreciated the dates being on them to make it easier to compare them and see the changes. I also really liked the motorcycle club room and the ability to go up to the archive room. The partnership with AMF, the golf cart, the scooter and those items were particularly interesting. They did a good job covering their troubled years and didn't shy away from some of the stuff other companies might not have included. Their influence on Milwaukee was also interesting. Overall, it seemed like a balanced account of the company history than might be expected from a company museum. read more
