The prices feel a bit staggering at first, but the coffees are large, and the taste is well worth it. I don't know if it's just the drinks we got or if all of them taste like this, but they taste really off. There was almost a fennel taste in the s'mores drink and the birthday cake looked like an unappetizing green color when the frostings started to mix. I wouldn't get a specialty coffee here again, I'd just get something simple. It's obvious that the team there is working really hard, but it's a long wait for your coffee on the weekends so I wouldn't pick this if you're in a rush. We visited Harlow and Pearl in Mount Pleasant and absolutely loved it! We tried the chocolate covered strawberry mocha and WOW - it was delicious, creamy, and somehow tasted even better than we expected. You can tell they put care into their drinks. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. They also had plenty of milk alternatives available, which we appreciated. The only downside was finding it. Since it's located inside a retail store, it was a bit difficult to locate. The signage indicating which entrance to use for coffee was misleading the doors marked for direct access were locked and/or blocked. The coffee staff mentioned that the retail business owner decided to close the direct-access doors, even though they would prefer them open for guests. The store itself is a bit crowded, which made navigating to the coffee shop slightly challenging. For reference, Harlow and Pearl is in the back right of the store. Honestly, we followed the amazing smell of their drinks to get there! Overall, amazing time and amazing coffee. We'll definitely be back! read more

Having heard of this spot, but not having been (mostly due to the location, when I rarely go to Mt. P), we decided to take a drive one weekend to check it out. It's adorable and they have their own little corner inside the store. I got the special of the day (Moonbeam latte) and it basically tasted like melted chocolate ice cream. It was fun with some edible glitter and the blue foam on top was a nice touch. I love the little animal charm they put on the top also. We decided to take our drinks onto the porch and enjoy the nice day. There wasn't much interaction with the staff, but sometimes, that's ok with me! A friend of mine has been a few times & said the owner is really nice, I just didn't get the chance to talk to her. My husband ordered The Elvis--a specialty latte--and it was fantastic. Beautifully made and delicious. I ordered a chai latte, which was just okay. I had actually asked for a dirty chai, but I don't think the gal taking our order understood what that meant. I kind of assumed "dirty" (adding a shot of espresso) was standard lingo at most coffee spots. The line was very long for a Sunday, and the service was noticeably slow. It felt like the staff were still getting into the rhythm of things, and the person taking our order didn't seem confident about the menu or drink options. This is the only coffee shop I've tried here that has good matcha! The first time I went I got their daily special, a cotton candy matcha. They use the right amount of matcha powder and the right ratio of it to the milk. It's perfect. The service is always great, both times they had the same girl working and she's always super friendly, helpful, and welcoming. They should give her a raise or something she really does go above and beyond. The coffee shop is in a little store that isnt really my cup of tea, it's like beachy furniture overpriced knick nacks. Sure do miss the folks at H&P/Starlight Motor Inn. I thought of H&P as a part of the incredible vintage motel where I spent three nights waiting for my daughter to be done with the bachelorette thing she was attending (along with thousands of other...uh...young ladies in Charleston that weekend. But it was and is a separate business with another location in Charleston, and it was their first week of business at the SMI. Lucky me. The staff was generous with their time, welcoming (and dare I say, even befriending) this old guy from near Seattle. That said, I know my espresso...and these folks know how to make it. Alyssa (sp?) helped me create an oat doppio that had just the right spin on it that we almost gave it a special name. (You'll have to guess that part.) I loved the peeps--staff and customers--who allowed this ADHD MD time and space to talk...and talk...and talk while savoring the best cap and multiple doppios over the three day motor inn stay. I could not escape this place on Instagram so I finally made my way over to Harlow and Pearl. I was not disappointed, my barista's name was Alyssa and she was so lovely! Super sweet and even though there was a long line she did not skimp on being polite and chatting with me a bit before getting my coffee order in. I ordered one of the daily features, which was an Ube coconut milk Matcha Latte. I also loved that Alyssa gave me a heads up that there would still be dairy in the Ube cold foam. I was willing to risk it because the drink looked delicious. This coffee shop is nestled in a store named modern manor. While I waited for my latte I wandered around the store a bit. The latte was $8.50 before tax, which was in my opinion a little steep for a 12 oz latte. After a few sips the price of the latte was irrelevant. Such a good blend of flavors, I fear I will be back soon. read more

What a hidden gem in the MP area! Well, not really...because we got here on a Saturday morning at opening, and were the first customers, so it seemed quiet, but by the time we were leaving, there was already almost a line out the door! So maybe I just needed to get hip to this place! Hahah. Anyway, it's so cute and cozy inside. You have to go into Modern Manor and then H&P is right inside. They have specialty coffees on the menu that rotate, and their standard menu, too. I got the pumpkin cookie butter latte, and my husband got the s'mores mocha latte. They were both delicious, but we preferred the mocha for our own personal taste. I'd happily go back any time to try the other coffees!
