I initially came here excited and ready to spend money today with my family. I have a love for…read morerecords and have collected them for years. I came across this place on my visit to Monterey and decided I would go and check out the store. I went with my wife and three kids ages 7, 5 and 8 months old. I was carrying my 8 month old in her baby carrier. As I opened the door to the business, an older bearded man with long hair who worked behind the counter prevented my family from entering the store saying that the business was full and he did not want children in the store. He went on to say there was also water damage which is not my problem and completely unprofessional to tell a first time customer. The man was extremely rude and appeared bothered by me and my family. I responded by saying that I would take my business elsewhere and he slammed the door shut behind me like a child! Never have I experienced such a rude and disrespectful attitude from a business. My children asked why the man was so angry and I told them that it wasn't their fault and we would not support a business who treats people that way. I will never go here and will make sure all of my friends and family stay clear of this place. I come from a family with military and law enforcement backgrounds and this man made me and my family feel less than and unwelcome as first time customers! This was a bizarre and wild experience as a proud American to endure.

Lots of new books that were on display that piqued my interested as well as older hardcovers that made me take pause. It was a welcoming space with quotes on the walls from authors, notably Steinbeck. Several customers came in asking for titles which the store managers readily knew about. I was able to ask about Fort Ord, since it was relatively nearby and maps were on display. Being an out-of-towner, I asked Trish the store manager about James Dean and learned about the significance of his last drive. She also gave us some advice to read the first chapter of America and Americans to get a sense of how Monterey was back then. Very informative and lovely conversation.

The front shop has a few seats where you can hang out quietly with a nice chill ambiance and the back is a much louder and livelier hang. Arrived around 7 pm on a Friday and a live Dj came out at about 8. We picked a seat outside which had a few fire pits and picnic tables. Sitting outside allowed us to still enjoy the music but also hold a conversation. This place seems very popular and I'd certainly come back. The vibes were exactly what I'm looking for as a 30 year old that enjoys an occasional night out. I did not snap a photo of the menu but they sell beer, wine and cocktails. There was a cool retro looking photo booth and caught my attention and I was upper bummed when I realized it was $7... unfortunately, I couldn't bring myself to spend $7 for two photos.

But I don't think I've ever seen a selection of vinyl and CDs like the one at Streetlight on Pacific. And what a great crew! I was there to trade in my lifetime of Vinyl records and a few CDs as I downsize into old age, but when I got there, I was just astounded by the Customer Service and selection. Hats off to Mike. We ended up leaving with some vintage magazine ads and a vintage cook book. Everything felt pretty reasonable priced there if definitely something for everyone there. Located…read morein a 1927-era building that once housed the "Carmel Canning Company warehouse #2," and was granted "Historic Structure" status by the City of Monterey in 1994, one year before the Antique Mall opened in June '95. This place is by far my favorite antique store in the Bay Area, as its 21,000+ sq ft of floor space and two floors are occupied by over 100 different merchants selling everything from modern art and jewelry to old toys and abundant knickknacks. The only issue with this place is the parking situation, which can be a bit of a hassle, especially on weekends. Fortunately, it's a bit removed from the more popular Cannery Row area and on the opposite side of the Aquarium, so while it may be difficult, it's not impossible. Otherwise, come forth and feast your eyes on the treasures to behold. Just make sure you give yourself at least two hours to take it all in, or you're going to miss out on some interesting finds.
