The shop
Matt C.

Recycled Records is a vinyl emporium in the heart of Monterey. After a wonderful day exploring the aquarium and boardwalk, a record store was exactly what the doctor ordered. The shop is the perfect size if you ask me. Some record stores are honestly too big and can be often overwhelming from the moment you set foot inside. Here you'll find predominantly used vinyl, with the majority being rock, jazz, pop, and country. Also a pretty good selection of 45s, which I always enjoy sifting through! When I'm on vacation, I love finding new records which are in better condition. I found a few albums from artists I hold close to home. Ended up walking out with the following: Deftones - Diamond Eyes Orville Peck - Pony Metallica - Creeping Death 12" single on gold vinyl The shop dude was friendly and knowledgeable. It was me and only other two customers in there. He ended up changing the music to The Doors self titled first album, which is a reliable choice to accommodate most music tastes in a record store. Recycled Records, thanks for showing a vinyl junkie a good time!

Perfect vinyl outpost; old school like I like it with an emphasis on the pre-loved n' listened to vinyl with a hint of new stock. Spinning Herbie Hancock "Secrets" when I walk in, well stocked, helpful staff, a couple nice vintage stereo hifi items too! Go!

As usual, visited during the MJF last week. Hunting for some specific LPs. No luck this trip. But never miss a chance to visit.

Great staff, goldmine selection, decent prices. Got a Sticky Fingers LP there with the zipper still attached.

I came across this place on my visit to Monterey and decided I would go and check out the store. I went with my wife and three kids ages 7, 5 and 8 months old. I was carrying my 8 month old in her baby carrier. As I opened the door to the business, an older bearded man with long hair who worked behind the counter prevented my family from entering the store saying that the business was full and he did not want children in the store. He went on to say there was also water damage which is not my problem and completely unprofessional to tell a first time customer. The man was extremely rude and appeared bothered by me and my family. I responded by saying that I would take my business elsewhere and he slammed the door shut behind me like a child! Never have I experienced such a rude and disrespectful attitude from a business. My children asked why the man was so angry and I told them that it wasn't their fault and we would not support a business who treats people that way. I will never go here and will make sure all of my friends and family stay clear of this place. I come from a family with military and law enforcement backgrounds and this man made me and my family feel less than and unwelcome as first time customers! This was a bizarre and wild experience as a proud American to endure.

Located…read morein a 1927-era building that once housed the "Carmel Canning Company warehouse #2," and was granted "Historic Structure" status by the City of Monterey in 1994, one year before the Antique Mall opened in June '95. This place is by far my favorite antique store in the Bay Area, as its 21,000+ sq ft of floor space and two floors are occupied by over 100 different merchants selling everything from modern art and jewelry to old toys and abundant knickknacks. The only issue with this place is the parking situation, which can be a bit of a hassle, especially on weekends. Fortunately, it's a bit removed from the more popular Cannery Row area and on the opposite side of the Aquarium, so while it may be difficult, it's not impossible. Otherwise, come forth and feast your eyes on the treasures to behold. Just make sure you give yourself at least two hours to take it all in, or you're going to miss out on some interesting finds.

It's not unlike any other antique mall across the US, small stalls, probably owned by individuals that pay rent to have their merchandise seen. I spent about 20 minutes in there and saw everything on both levels. Found a few things that were priced decently. The people ringing customers up or friendly and efficient. Parking is street parking and it is metered. Tax is higher than I anticipated. My total was $45 before tax and over $49 in the end.

This occurred on January 25, 2026 at around 3 pm…read more It genuinely saddens me to say this--and I've never done this before--but today I had to walk out of a bookstore after what I witnessed. I want to be clear that this is not about the entire staff. There is usually an older gentleman who works there who is consistently kind, welcoming, and genuinely respectful. This experience, however, was about one employee an older white woman. T fact that a space claiming to be anti-racist would allow this kind of behavior at all.For a store that loudly claims to stand for community uplift and justice, you should truly practice what you preach. While I was there, there was a conversation happening on the couches. We didnt care that we werent greeted that it until a different demographic walked in a bit after us. One of thise store staff (older white woman) attended to them right away and warmly engaged with those customers ( a white man and his asain gf)--making conversation, laughing, even giving their dog a treat--yet completely ignored the brown people in the store. You can tell the guys were totally all for us versus that couple and we were not the only brown people in the store. She ignored. We decided to leave and even walked directly in front of her, clearly visible, hoping she would say something as simple as "hello" or "Are you finding everything okay?"--and she said nothing. No acknowledgment. No basic courtesy. What made it even more sad was overhearing conversations about European immigrants and their struggles, all while brown customers were being dismissed in real time. She kept talking to these super star customers about restaurants and casual topics, yet not even offering basic acknowledgment to brown customers. That's not accidental--that's bias and micro agression. I've given this store many chances, but that blatant prejudice was the final straw. Shame on her. All customer should be acknowledged the same. your space it is meant to be inclusionary, but you just make it seem exclusionary to those that do not look like you..
