We visited this time as part of the "Wine for Wildlife" fundraiser, which was a $40 weekend passport to visit 9 wineries (3 tastes/winery). Cayucos Cellars tasting room is lovely. There is also an outdoor patio. We were welcomed by Paige, who is friendly and personable. Our 3-pour "Wine for Wildlife" tasting flight included a Rose' of Grenache, a 2017 Pinot Noir, and the "Rustic One", which was a blend of petit Sirah, Syrah, and Grenache. All were delicious. We bought a bottle of the Rustic One. Looking forward to coming back and giving their full tasting flight a try.

We're wine club members. We only had about half an hour to taste, so we sped through the the tasting menu. This is a nice little tasting room with a bar and sofa, chairs, and table inside, and numerous small tables and chairs outside in a small courtyard that is enclosed on three sides looking out to the street. Black Hand does mostly red varietals, and that's what we tried on this day - Grenache, Tempranillo, Merlot, Cab. Sauv., Petite Verdo, and Sarah. Tom is a great wine maker, and we always enjoy everything he puts in front of us. The prices here are reasonable, and wine club members get 25% off their wine and 35% off on cases. Cost per bottle ranges from about $40-$50. Tastings are free for up to four people if you are member; otherwise, it's $15 per tasting waived with the purchase of two bottles.

The artwork on the wine labels is stunning and adds a unique touch to the experience. I also appreciated the stories behind the wine names, the focus on small-batch production, and especially the charity bottle program. It's clear that a lot of thought and passion go into the brand. As for the wines themselves, they just weren't a fit for my palate, particularly at the price point. I recognize that wine preferences are highly personal, and there were others around the tasting room who seemed to enjoy them much more than I did. I also felt that the tasting experience could have been more engaging. Our server was pleasant not the most engaging, we felt like we were bothering her. Overall, I appreciated the creativity, mission, and atmosphere, even though the wines and tasting experience didn't quite resonate with me.

The owner John was an amazing man with the most fantastic stories. He built the winery building they were in the furniture, the bar, including a beautiful table a lot of it is out of Redwood. I believe he has a place up in Big Sur or did I bought two bottles of wine and I really did this day.
