Their only drawback is communicating- meaning it is very difficult to reach office staff, or get call backs so if you need to change service days/hours if you don't go in-person, you won't get anyone in time even if you try starting a week out. The phone system is useless as nobody seems responsible for answering or responding to calls. You will have long wait times(I.e. 15-20 minutes) before you give up.

I feel as though there is a very regular lack or concern of care with them. I want to find the right person for me and I think I might have, and I'm trying to communicate this, but I have to say again...there is no way to! I hate feeling like I have to leave a review and this my first one on yelp. I just wish I had known I'd have a choice in companies when I was set up with them. I finally found one great caregiver with them and I really want her to stay, but can't let them know and pray I can get ahold of the scheduler before she's assigned to someone else! He died eight days later…read more Although we were told by the bookkeeper that if we cleared out his apartment, we might get some of the month's rent back, we later learned that the corporation policy requires a 30 day advance notice EVEN WHEN A TENANT DIES unexpectedly. I get it that typical rentals require the full month if a tenant spends any part of a month in a unit....but with NO exemptions for death, this is an incredible money grabbing policy by the company!!! Besides keeping my father's more than $3000 rent for a room he occupied only two days in January, we have not gotten his security deposit returned. The management informed us that his room was in good condition and we could expect to get back his "security deposit" of $1000. It has been almost THREE MONTHS since his apartment was confirmed to be OK and vacated January 15, and there has been no check yet. Each time I call, I am told that the "higher up" office has already cut the check - but it is hard to believe that any form of mail delivery would take three weeks to deliver it. If you are considering placing a loved one in the Hidenwood, make sure that they give a thirty days notice BEFORE they die unless you want to get socked with another month's rent. It will help to make sure they plan to die on the last day of the month so that the company cannot charge an extra month's rent! It's a policy that lacks all fairness and compassion!

I had my first visit yesterday when visiting family. The place is more wonderful than I realized…read more The security alone provides a sense of safety. Guests need to check in and have their picture taken. First floor reminds me of a nice hotel. The flower arrangements are real! They offer a theater, activity rooms (pool, ping pong , puzzles etc ). There is also a nice fitness center with a pool and a hot tub. I haven't seen the dining room or library but I am told they have an excellent burger and the library has a variety of different reads. There are different floors depending on the residents' needs. There is assisted living floor , a mental illness floor and retirement community floor. The units are large and customized. The view of the Elizabeth river from the "old" building is gorgeous. I do know they have medical and physical therapy on site too which is very convenient. I've only heard good things about the quality of care. So far I am very pleased with where my family is going to be living out the rest of their many years. I will be visiting often. Lastly, it is very convenient that Dumar's and Orapax are so close. Highly recommend dining there!
