My wife and I met another couple at Boo Koo. We had tickets to theatre nearby (a good walk after dining). It was a casual lunch, right for the occasion. Our friends recommended it. They've been there often, it seems. I'd be pleased to join them there again. We had a pho and a noodle dish. We split the shishito peppers. My wife prefers less spicy. I'm the opposite. We order calibrated for her. They did fine. My wife remarked afterward it was "Americanized." That is true. It's not necessarily bad. It isn't just Asian cuisines; it's Italian too, and I'd bet just about every other tradition. There is a distinct American version, which an historian could figure out the relationship to the original for, for any "ethnic" dish you'll encounter stateside. Service was brisk. I hate to write this review, but unfortunately the food was pretty much inedible. I want to start by saying we had no issues with the service or the ambiance. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. Our disappointment was solely with the food. The Pad Thai was, without question, the worst Pad Thai I've ever had. It arrived cold to lukewarm, lacked any flavor (some thought it tasted like soap?), and was honestly unappetizing. Multiple people in our group ordered it, and every single person had the same reaction after taking a few bites. Not one of us was able to make a dent in the meal. We also ordered the green curry, yellow curry, and potstickers. Unfortunately, those dishes were subpar as well and didn't make up for the experience. We did let the manager know about our concerns before leaving. I'm writing this review in the hope that the restaurant takes the feedback seriously and considers improving the recipes. This place has a lot of potential, it's in a great location and seems like it could be a great spot for both small and large groups, but the food simply doesn't live up to it. read more

Stopped by to get a to go order on Mother's Day. They had plenty of open seating and the staff was very friendly. They have a bar top table and bar seats as well as tables. The music was good, the vibe was nice, but the food took very long to be ready. They said about 15 minutes but was nearly 40, and it was for spring rolls and soup. Giving 4 stars because the food was good, the place was a cool spot, it was just the wait (and incorrect wait time mostly) that was a 2-3 star. Had we known, we would've left and come back and had a more positive overall experience. Worth getting the food, not sure if the wait time is always an issue as only tried once on a trip. read more

I echo the sentiments of several other reviewers who found the food to be mediocre and underwhelming. IMO, the food lacks flavor and authenticity. I found my meal to be boring. First time here and probably won't be our last! It wasn't packed when we went. They had small indoor seating and outdoor seating available. Service was amazing.. our server literally took down 2 apps and 4 entree orders by memory and I was impressed as the dishes came on within a reasonable time. I was surprised how fresh the dishes were. Flavorful and not bland. Chicken pho (forgot to picture) was tasty with good amount of noodles and chicken. Comes with cilantro, jalapeños, & bean sprouts. Green curry banh mi was delicious with extra stuffings on the side. My FAVORITE is the tiger prawn rolls & the mighty mint salad! It taste so FRESHHH and flavor was on point. I totally didn't want to share. It was definitely way more yummy than the chili lime wild salmon salad (which isn't bad either) Kids bento box come with cookie, veggies, choice of chicken, mandarin oranges, & choice of noodles or rice! I always try to find something positive about a review so here we go - my wife liked her dish. After that...the rest of this review will be brutally honest. The kids bento box is absolutely boring, the tiger prawn spring rolls is just that - one spring roll???? My dish made it to the table 25 minutes after everyone else's dish. The wait staff was there but we had to waive them down to accomplish the following- refills of water, presentation of the final check, following up on my pho that was very delayed and finally someone to take our initial order. If we ate there on an "off" night we practically checked off all the "what could go wrong" boxes. On a positive note- their ambiance was nice. Boo for Boo Koo. My family and I have gotten take out a couple times a year for the last few years, and have dined in once or twice some years ago. Each time I feel like I am crossing my fingers it will be better, but nope it's always very mediocre. Unfortunately it seems like they gave up a long time ago and have never strived to improve. Overall, the employees seemed very unenthused. Food: Very disappointing chicken pho. A good bowl of soup can make up for bad service and lack luster atmosphere, but this soup completely lacked flavor, and had a not-so-generous serving of meat and noodles. Atmosphere: This is more of a fast casual place and the atmosphere is just fine considering that. However, I didn't appreciate the flies buzzing around. I ordered at 6:13 online for pick up. It said order ready in fifteen-twenty minutes. We pulled up and I went in to check on our order. There were four bags packed at the door. When a girl asked if I needed a seat I told her I had a pick up. She smiled and walked away. I figured it wasn't ready. Then waited more. I decided to just wait in the restaurant because it wasn't busy and there was another person waiting. The other person says she'd waited 30 minutes and so she turned around the bags to find her order and took it. There was no one checking orders. The girl who originally asked me was playing with a little boy. I looked at the to go bags and found mine and took it, then too. Got home, the Bahn mi pork and Bahn mi tofu were lousy. Neither had traditional crusty crunch thin baguette. They had stale chewy rolls and barely any filling. Tofu was slimy. Their "special" shrimp roll rice wrapping was tough and hard to bite through. We unsealed it and tried the filling on its own which was flavorless. Such a bummer for a place that's been around a long time and has a great corner location. As non-locals, we were looking for a quick bite in the area and stumbled across this place. We were disappointed by the wok-fired entrees we ordered - the pad-thai noodles were undercooked, the protein was too salty and a lot of the flavor was extremely underwhelming overall. Even though we were hungry, the food was honestly hard to stomach and we finished with half our bowls left. Fortunately, our server was very polite and the dine-in interior is a nice, charming space with a bar inside. Ok - used to be decent. I think they've lost their way. The chicken pho has no vegetable- except a small clump of bean sprouts and some a little cuisinart chopped cabbage. The noodles are not traditional flat rice - cheaper spaghetti style. And a small dollop of shredded chicken. The broth is heavily salted and has not flavor but a dark muddied color. Not sure how that broth is made. Drive to San Rafael - much much better. You won't regret it. This place feeds on lazy southern Marin people who don't know the difference in quality. I wish I could say good things. They use toast and make u pay and wind of the tip to over 20% before your food or any service is provided. Kinda lame. Won't be back. And if you want Bahn Mi go to San Rafael. Of course for this type of food I'd suggest the city but San Rafael has a couple of good places. read more

I ordered the Boo Koo Peanut and the presentation is nice however the dish was horrible. The only thing that was decently good was the steak which was extra cost. The noodles were also overcooked. It tasted like pasta with a dollop of peanut butter. My friends also ordered the chicken pho and the pad thai. The broth in the chicken pho tasted like canned chicken broth from the store. Cabbage is not supposed to be in pho. Chicken was dry. The pad thai had ingredients that usually aren't supposed to be in pad thai like tomatoes, mushrooms, and celery. The noodles tasted like burnt noodles. I usually don't like to waste food but i couldn't finish it. Overall, do not eat here! Everything was bland. read more

Really surprised this place gets such a bad wrap. My friends and I came around 3 on Sunday afternoon. I love the quirky ambiance and decorations. There's a communal high top in the middle, bar seating, and some individual tables along the perimeter. They also have two TVs in the bar so could be a nice place to watch a game. I was bummed they weren't playing the Giants game that was going while we were there, but I also didn't ask so it's possible they would have. The waitress was lovely and came immediately to take our food and drink orders. The beers came out quickly and the food shortly after. I kept it simple with chicken satay and their sides of veggies/rice. The chicken satay was your average fair, good but nothing special. The veggies were wok fried but had no flavor, they're some sort of sweet sauce on the tables I added to them and it was good enough. They have some good beers on tap to wash it down with, one of which was a very good hazy IPA (MY FAV). My friends enjoyed their dished as well, again nothing mind blowing but some solid quick dining. It's official, we're fans! This spot in Mill Valley is in the downtown area, it has easy parking, has clear signage, and has a great menu, excellent service, and reasonable prices. The WORST tasting chicken Pho I have ever had! So bad that we threw it out! What a waste. We ordered to go food and had we eaten there I would have sent it back. I'm shocked at how awful the broth was, like watery off tasting cat food. Nothing Vietnamese about it .
