Dr. Ochsner and I go way back. He has helped me over the years. He is friendly, thorough. I had allergies when I was living down in Long Beach and he worked with me to help a lot. I asked him to be as clinical and specific with me as he liked and he did. I learned a lot, he always took the time to help and answer questions. I think he is the best diagnosticians I've seen. Called to make an initial appoint wed 1020am with this doctor and this is what the front office lady says to me: me: "Hi, I'd like to make an new patient appointment with the allergist" her: "What for?" me: "overall check up. I would like the skin prick test." her: "You've never made an appointment with an allergist before" (not a question) "I don't know what to tell you. I can't help you. There are many things I want to say, but I'll keep it short. Front office, horrible experience. The lady is old and rude. I called asking if my doctor had signed a pre-authorization form to renew my prescription for my inhaler. She says, "The doctor is looking for it. You can call back if you want. I have a patient I need to speak to. " Then, she hung up when I was asking a question. Wtf? What kind of customer service is this? Then, not to mention, the doctor is 100 years old. He used old tools to clean out my ear and did not warn me at all what he was doing. Proceeded to hurt my ear even more, squirting water in my ear using a 100 year old metal syringe. Everything in the office is so out of date. The only thing up to date is probably his landline from 15 years ago. Smh. I'm never going back there again. read more

To preface, I was recommended by my primary care physician to see an allergist and I told the doctor and the person who answered the phone this. I called to schedule an appointment as I had a strange reaction to the covid vaccine. I noted this to the receptionist who then located the doctor and put him on the phone. I stated my symptoms and that something similar has happened in the past. The doctor then said "it's doubtful that this will happen again. It's more trouble to re-create these symptoms so if it ever happens again, which I don't think it will, you can come in if we're open." Too bad you can't give zero stars. Phenomenal, upstanding doctor, who actually cares about his patients. I was able to see him the same day I called and had as much time as I needed with him. I explained my history with eczema, dermatologists, and treatments that didn't work, and Dr. Ochsner listened carefully and provided me with a medical explanation of what was happening in my body. He also gave me a different option to combat my eczema, one that three different doctors didn't provide me in the past year of dealing with my skin condition. I was welcomed into his office, taken seriously, and spoken to with respect, which I have found difficult to come by recently with doctors. I'd HIGHLY recommend Dr. Ochsner. He's warm, funny, and knowledgeable and makes you feel like you are coming over to his home for afternoon tea. read more

Best Doctor I have ever had. I recently went to another allergist in the community. After the most terrible experience ever, and waiting a whole month for an appointment I called Dr. Ochsner's office. The very nice woman who answered the phone said "can you come in this afternoon?" I went to the office, and wow, Dr. Ochsner is absolutely the best doctor I've ever had. He spends the time to get to know his patients, and goes the extra mile to ensure that everyone understands the treatment plan. I work with doctors on a daily basis- but never have I met a physician with such an amazing bedside manner- combined with decades of knowledge. He's old school- and will spend the time with you to ensure proper treatment. Don't let Dr. Ochsner's age fool you- I work in a cutting edge new immunotherapy treatment for cancer- and Dr. Ochsner was teaching me elements of the treatment along with clearly articulating all of the main players in his and my field. He is more up-to-date then 98% of doctors out there. All said, Dr. Ochsner is by far the best physician I have ever seen in a professional setting. We were out of town 3.5 hours and I broke out in Hives bad. I called Dr O at 1:00 am and he told me to meet him at the office! I told him I was out of town and he said when would I be in Long Beach. I said about 4 am. He said ok see you at the office. I would get Hives really bad so he knew what to give me. He met us at the office at about 4 or so. Now what doctor does this. I called Dr. Ochsner two days ago on the basis of Yelp reviews, in absolute misery from an extended hyperallergic state, and he said I could come in that day. I was so surprised! I've been seeing Dr. Ochsner for at least 8- or 9 years...initially for his specialty as an allergist, but he is just so wonderfully `old-fashioned' (in every best sense of the word), that I adopted him as my Doctor of Record through my several changes of health insurance. Dr. Ochsner is straight out of `central casting' for the quintessential small-town physician... a slightly-gruff, non-nonsense exterior cloaks a compassionate, `the patient comes first' medical mind. He takes as much time as he needs with each patient (so don't get crabby if the prior patient's appointment runs a little long - you'll get full service at your time-slot - we current patients accept this). His charming wife runs the office & billing, and treats the patients like long-time friends (which many of them are). His office can be a little hard to locate - it's on the ground-floor, south-east corner of a stocky little medical arts building on the east side of Bellflower Blvd - about 1-1/2 blocks north of the 405 fwy. read more

I have yet to see the man but this review is solely for the phone call to make the appointment. I'm sure it'll stay at 5 stars once I see him. I was referred by my GP to see an allergist, asthma, allergy, and skin issues. The allergist he referred me to isn't available for two weeks. No thank you. So, having a PPO, I searched for other allergists in my network. Everyone is two to six weeks out and most of the doctors are only there two or three days a week. I called Dr. Ochsner's office, the woman on the phone was super sweet, asked me a few questions about what was going on and asked me what time I was available tomorrow. Even gave me directions to the office. So far I'm impressed. I'll update after my appointment tomorrow. read more

Even if you can't help her (which I don't know how an allergist would not be able to help someone with allergies?!), why not tell me who to go to instead and not hang up on me. My siblings and I suffer from both asthma and allergies but Doctor has helped us deal with it and keep it under control for the past 15 years. He's the best allergist doctor there is! So I decided to give him a call about my recent asthma weezing that has decided to come back and visit me I explained symptoms and that I was born with SEVERE asthma & allergies. I saw Dr Ochsner because I was wheezing from cat allergies. Every other doctor told me I'd need to take a test and get shots. He took meticulous notes and really listened to me. He simply told me I had some mild asthma and gave me an inhaler sample. It did just the trick. I appreciated how he found it unnecessary to run expensive tests; he trusted that I already knew I was allergic to cats. He also went with the least amount of treatment and didn't jump to injecting me full of allergy medicine. All around great doctors. read more

Dr. Ochsner is the real deal. My son has gone to so many doctors to figure out his allergy issues that flare up his G.I. Issues. We got a next-day appointment and so I had wondered if this guys was good. Why if he has so many good reviews does he have appointments next day? Because of the reviews, I gave him a chance. The office is in (what looks like) a converted house to an office. It was like I was going into an office in the 1970's or something in that he wasn't rushed AT ALL, listened well and asked really thoughtful questions. Has a computer that looks like it's from 1990. He didn't reference the internet he referenced this huge diagnostic manual. He told us what the issue was (without looking at any book) and then showed us in the book what it was. The questions he asked were on point (other doctors we have been to don't seem to ask those types of questions). He thinks outside of the box which is nice because we have been trying to figure out my sons issues for a really long time. read more
