We were looking for a place to dine before my niece returned home from a visit. After some research, we decided on Harold's Chicken. What we didn't know was that there is a difference between Harold's Chicken and Harold Chicken and ice bar. We looked online and saw the pictures from the ice bar and figured it would suit our needs. When we got there, we saw the chicken shack and thought maybe we'd gotten this place mixed up with the Edgewood location. Turns out, the ice bar location is right across the parking lot. We didn't realize it until we'd placed our order and was standing in the parking lot waiting because there was no inside seating. At any rate, I have never in all my years of dining out, had an experience so awful or any employee so rude and nasty. We placed our order at 5:19. We didn't get our food until almost 7:00. Because we were standing in the parking lot waiting and talking amongst our party of 10, we had to walk inside several times to check on the order. We had to ring the doorbell to get her attention from the back, she saw it was us and just waved us off without providing and update. She then proceeded to unplug the doorbell so we wouldn't ring it again. What we didn't know at the time was the lady who was taking orders was also cooking the food. Now, we may have been a little more understanding had we known there would be a wait due to being short staffed. However, being rude because you're overwhelmed is unacceptable. Communication goes a long way. The next issue is that although there were about 10 of us, we placed 4 separate orders so some of the food should have come out before the others since it was a takeout setting. However, we saw some of the food sitting on the counter but she would not give it to us until the rest of the orders were done. At one point, I considered calling my credit card company to cancel the charges since they have a sign up that says no refunds. When we finally got our food, it was definitely not worth the wait. My chicken was friend too hard, the cole slaw was smashed into my bread making them both inedible. I paid for extra sauce that was not included with my order but at this point, I refused to go back in. We would have been better off going to Popeye's chicken. I don't know how they stay in business. I am very impressed with the way they have handled the pandemic and security. Pandemic: They have fiberglass partitions separating every table. In addition they have partitions at the bar and only allow 2 seats between each partition. The servers have on masks as well as the bartenders. Security: They have a police person that checks ID and pats you down at the door. In addition they have police in the parking lot. As a bonus they always have police in plain clothes blended in the crowd. Finale: The food is great, the drinks are STRONG and the music is off the charts. I'm going to rate this a two-star on customer service and three-star on food, the young woman (light skin with braids currently and a small scar on face) behind the glass gave off the impression of frustration and attitude when I and my boyfriend ordered I can see it in her face and body language. I ordered a small catfish and he had large whiting, I eat catfish all the time and know the difference between the fishes that I eat. We waited 30mins for our order and I stated that we had a mix up on the orders once we received it and she was talking with her hands telling me that catfish is fillet and don't have black skin and which they DO and that the whiting is the one with black skin. Catfish has flavor to it without no season so I know what it tastes like and whiting is a mild taste so she gave attitude about what I ordered and made it seem like she did me a favor saying "she gave me an extra piece of fish" which made my ordered seem like much but I didn't ask for any extras like that justify my order and I should be satisfied when I was simply explaining the mix-up. Its probably one of my favorite chicken spots. But they made a great first impression and HAVEN'T lived up to since. I've tried with them several times each experience is different and it's never in the way i would hope. Again the food is good but sometimes you can get their sauce and sometimes you can't. The fries are inconsistent. Everything about harolds is just consistently inconsistent. They're terrible in doordash. Ive had them cancel orders without warning, they close really early and I want them to be a go to but they've let me down the last few times with the customer service. Their fish is great. Their chicken is great most of the time. I have had one or two less than great experiences but generally they're dope.
