I would also give 0 stars if possible. You won't believe this story. First, I took my car in to get a new alternator. The first thing they did was to lie about the price and quality part they would later order. Then, while putting the alternator in, they broke my timing chain cover. After 3 weeks, they finally finished my car. After I drove it for a short time it overheated and caught on fire in my driveway! They towed the car back and after another week it was done. Then two weeks later fluids came out the bottom and the car stopped running. I had it towed back to Harold's. It's still not fixed and it looks like I will have to sue them to get my car fixed properly. Also, they stated that they fired the mechanic that originally broke my car. Hopefully, they will give me a full refund of what I have paid them so far, $1,147! If they make everything right, I will make a new review! read more

Went in for an oil change, check on the brake lights and other issues. Friendly, got me in quickly and helped trouble shoot and do the repairs quickly and was reasonably priced. I am having more work done on my vehicle and look forward to get my car on top shape. read more

I would give 0 stars if possible. I was very disappointed with the service I received. I had my Range Rover towed there because it would not start. Instead of just checking the battery first thing, I guess they spent a lot of time "diagnosing" the problem and then advised that it needed a new battery, so they did that; most expensive battery replacement I've ever had. Then they advised me that there was a problem with air suspension system and should they look at that. Even though I had already been hit hard by battery replacement, I thought as long as it was in shop, go ahead. THEY DID NOT ADVISE ME THAT THEY HAVE LIMITED EQUIPMENT FOR AN ACTUAL FIX ON A RANGE ROVER AIR SUSPENSION, but went ahead and did the diagnostics on that anyway. The end result was that they determined they COULD'NT ACTUALLY FIX THE SUSPENSION PROBLEM DUE TO NOT HAVING THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT"!!!, but charged me yet more for that, so basically, I spent a whopping $557.33 for what turned out to be a simple battery replacement!!! I ended up taking it to P&M Automotive, where I was treated right and they fixed the issue for a fair price. I AM AN ELDERLY WOMAN (already a bad combination to take a car in for repair) AND I WOULD CAUTION ANYONE THINKING THAT HAROLD'S QUALITY AUTO WILL BE FAIR, ETHICAL, AND HONEST WITH YOU, THINK AGAIN, BECAUSE THAT DEFINITELY WAS NOT MY EXPERIENCE THERE. read more

I used to use Harold's many years ago, always got excellent service. Then, my wife and I got new cars and didn't need his service quite as much. It's been twenty years, and our vehicles have gotten older, with my 2008 Dodge needing a complete overhaul. I checked with the local dealership, and they quoted me almost $4,000 -- for a 30,000 mile maintenance job! I walked out, digusted. Then I remembered Harold's. I went there and was $1,800 -- less than half. Plus, I'd get it back in a day rather than a week. Now, the work is done. Everything completed in one day, and the final bill came out even less -- only $1,580. I'm glad I'm back going to Harold's! read more

Harold's got me in same day without notice to assess a car for pre-purchase inspection. They were professional and efficient, and very kindly gave us an upgrade on services without us asking. Their assessment was honest, and they really helped us move forward with a used car purchase wielding good leverage. The pre-purchase inspection price was industry standard and everything else was above and beyond. I'll go there again next time we look at a car in Salem. read more

11/9/22: I barely limped into Harold's lot to inquire about repairing my rough running GMC Sierra. I spoke with Elliot and he said they were scheduled 2 1/2 weeks out. Thinking I would try my luck at another shop, my truck refused to leave their lot and I opted not to have it towed to another shop but instead, to put myself in the queue. 11/22/22: Got my first call from Elliot telling me what the rough running issue was and he also informed me that my truck was vandalized while on their lot and that one of my widows was broken. I was quoted a cost for the engine repair as well as the cost for replacing the window. I later learned that two vehicles were vandalized on 11/17 and that Harold's does not have liability insurance that covers damage to customer's vehicles. Nor do they notify the police if a customer's vehicle is vandalized at their shop--that's the customer's responsibility. 11/30/22: Got my final call from Harold's letting me know the repairs were finished but they suspected that my battery was bad because it wouldn't hold a charge. My truck would start with a jump but wouldn't hold a charge and I was quoted almost $240 for a new battery and install. I declined because I wanted a second opinion thinking I would just drive it the short distance to Les Schwab to have them test it, which I did the following day and the battery tested to be in good condition. Harold's did fix my engine problem but unfortunately I had to pay an additional $373 because my vehicle was unsafe on their lot and was vandalized; and, they tried to get me to pay for a new battery when my old one was fine. I would not recommend Harold's. read more

I took my car in because I can't get it running. They tell me they're quite backed up, and my friend tells me their car had already been there for six months. So I am ready for this to take a while. But a few months later I check my mail to find out they claimed it was abandoned, and had it towed. There excuse is that they called. A call I never received. Now I'm supposed to pay $2,500+ to get it back. Which is way more than I should have to considering I dropped it off to be fixed, not towed and possessed to be put on auction read more

I took my Van to have the oil changed and the brakes checked. They told me that I needed new brakes , rotors and calipers with the total cost of over $1100 dollars. I worked in the automotive industry for over 30 years and as a service advisor I never finished worse that third in my zone for customer satisfaction. My zone was Oregon Washington, Idaho and Alaska, Thats third place out of all of those states. And I only finished third once while I was a service advisor and the rest of the time I was first or second in customer satisfaction. I was one of 67 advisors nationwide that placed first in their zone out of 4500 ford service writers. So I do have an understanding of what is required to do brakes and the number of times I had to replace calipers on a car or truck can be counted on one hand. They do not wear out ever. I picked up my van took it to the dealership told them to check the brakes and they said I needed to replace the pads and turn the rotors total cost $175.00 Harolds does not fix cars they sell parts. read more

Harold's is a local business that we have taken our vehicles to several times. They are able to diagnose the problem right away, are friendly and their shop is clean and tidy. I would say it is a little pricier than some but they seem to do a good job. read more

My elderly mother went there because her engine light was on. They charged her $93 to run a diagnostic, then the laundry list of 'repairs' was made of nearly $1,800, they made her deposit $650 up front before they began work. The detail work included flushes of her brakes and transmission, which I would not have authorized had I been there with her. I think this outfit will exploit old people like my Mom, I don't trust them therefore. Moreover, she would have a very hard time paying that bill, her car isn't worth much more than $3,000! They will be paid but I do not condone this kind of treatment of elderly customers, especially when they can be led to believe they need so many things done that could be deferred or not done since they're 'nice to have' but not necessary. These guys are crooks. They tried to get me to pay $550 for something my car very obviously did not need, and lied to me about my car not starting. They also tried to get me to pay a $98 diagnostic fee for their own faulty part failing. Do not ever take your car here unless you want them to cause more problems than you began with and charge you higher prices than normal auto shops. read more

Harold's is the closest auto repair shop to me. After struggling trying to solve my own car problem I gave them a call and they got me in ASAP. Good customer service; honest and to the point. Quoted an hour and a half for the work and was done in less than an hour. They were up front about all costs. Would recommend to a friend and will be using them again in the future. read more

STOP! I NEARLY CRASHED MY CAR DUE TO FAULTY REPAIRS AT THIS SHOP! I brought my car in for a differntial service that involved removing the rear end of the car, and when I went to pick the car up, there was major body damage to the rocker panel under the driver's side door. The employee acted like he, nor nobody else noticed that the major damage had occurred, but promised to have the damage repaired. Fast forward over a month and a half, the damage was repaired by another local shop, and after speaking with that shop manager, I was told that Harold's automotive told him to do the repair as cheap and quick as possible. The repair was done VERY poorly, and after 2 re-attempts to fix it, the damage it still noticeable. I was told by Elliot, that they were not going to try to fix it again, and that if I didn't pay them right then, I was going to be charged $45 a day from that point until I paid. They use this tactic often in order to intimidate and strong arm customers. I reluctantly paid after being told the owner refused to speak to customers under any circumstance, and they wanted my car gone. I had paid for the brake lines to be installed and filled with fluid, and as I pulled my car out of the parking lot, the brake pedal went straight to the floor, and my car went barreling through a major intersection and nearly hit a pedestrian. I was able to get the car stopped, and when I called the shop, and explained what happened, Elliot chuckled and told me 'there must have been a leak'. I checked the brake master cylinder, and it was dry. I was invoiced for brake fluid top off, and charged for the installation of the brake lines. THIS BUSINESS IS DANGEROUS AND CARELESS AND DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

We were referred here for service codes on our Chevy Cruze Diesel (a unique car). We drove down from Vancouver, WA and were told the problem would cost 300 to fix. We paid and a few days later were told the problem was fixed. Upon picking it up and starting the drive back to Vancouver the service light for the same code came on before even making it home, and in turn reduced the cars speed to 45 mph before lowering to 5mph making it basically inoperable. We called the shop and they said to bring it back in and that the computer would need reset for another 150 dollars. Before bringing it in we called the Chevrolet dealership who told us that they had never heard of a computer reset fixing this problem and that the shop was incorrect. When we brought it to the dealership they stated that the 300 dollar service we had paid for had not happened and that we would need to pay them an additional charge to actually do the work. After calling Harold's for months and asking for a refund they have refused to call us back or give us a refund for the work they claimed to have done. We have asked to speak to the owner multiple times and he refuses to call us back or acknowledge us in any way. The workers admitted to not even knowing the car model existed before we brought it in and using the internet for ways to fix the codes. If Harold's would have simply told us they were not comfortable working on this unique car, like other repair shops had, we would not be out hundreds of dollars. Not only did we pay them for a service that was not done, we were hours away from paying another 150 dollars for a service that does not exist and would have still not fixed the problem. I hate to imagine how much more money we would have paid them before the problem was fixed or they admitted they could not fix it. We prefer to use local repair shops before heading to the dealership but after this experience we will let everyone know to avoid Harold's and go straight to the dealer if they want trustworthy work and any ounce of customer service. read more

Don't trust these guys! I left my 1996 Dodge Caravan to receive a Lube, Oil and Filter change and to have have the malfunctioning turn signals fixed. I specifically said that I thought the "Multi-function switch" was the problem since it had failed before. Apparently, the technician thought the problem was with the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, so they replaced the "Clock Spring". After discussing the issue with the front desk person, "Steve", and clarifying that the issue was with the blinkers and not the steering wheel buttons, I was told they would replace the old Clock Spring and order the replacement Multifunction Switch. About an hour later, Steve called to tell me that it was my fault that they misunderstood what I had explained as the problem when I dropped the car off for service and that I would have to pay for the Clock Spring and labor and additionally for the Multifunction switch. I was very clear when dropping of the car that the problem to be fixed was the malfunctioning blinkers. I feel I am being penalized for the technician and/or Steve's failure to research the problem and provide the correct solution. If they had tested the multifunction "buttons" on the steering wheel, they would have found they were working fine versus checking the blinkers which I had indicated, they would have been able to fix the correct broken part to begin with. read more

Harolds Quality Auto repair is the best in Salem. I have used other auto repair services before and it seems that everytime you take a vehicle into another shop, they seem to find things wrong that you never imagined. Harold's is not like that.
