Since there are only three guest rooms I imagine it's a serene place to stay any time of year. The owners were very friendly and served a delicious breakfast. We stayed in the Fireside room, which as its name suggests has a lovely (and warm) gas fireplace. On a cold April night it was so cozy in our room. The whole inn has unique antique touches but with all the amenities you would want. Rooms: Since we were the only guests I was able to check out the other rooms, all of which were lovely. The Fireside room has the fireplace (you'll likely only use it in the winter/fall because it does produce heat), pretty vintage wallpaper, and a comfortable bed with a firm mattress. You have to step down into the bathroom area and the sink is inside the bedroom, which I found to be funky/charming. If you want a tiny bit more privacy book the Androscoggin room. It also has the best view, a little seating area, and it's the only room with a bathtub (the other two have showers). I thought the Garden room was the prettiest room, but that is subjective of course. The photos here and on their website are accurate, the house is very clean and beautifully appointed. A few traveler tips: The rooms don't have TVs but there is one in the common area downstairs for guest use. This didn't bother us but for some it may be an issue (or a bonus). The stairs are steep and may be challenging for anyone with limited mobility (all guest rooms are upstairs). The only very minor complaint I have -and this does not effect my 5 star rating because we knew about it ahead of time- is that they only serve breakfast until 9am, checkout is at 10:30, and there is no flexibility on either (on Sundays anyway, in order for the owners to attend church). We overslept by 15 minutes and they graciously still served us, I wouldn't have been upset if they closed the kitchen as it was our mistake. They also said that checkout was at 10:30, but at 10:18 the owner came to our door to usher us out. BUT, like I said we knew about this ahead of time and still chose to book, and we're glad we did. It was a lovely stay.

Considering how long this building has been standing, I'm amazed with how well everything looked overall! Beyond the exciting aesthetics, I can't even put into words how amazing and kind the staff were! Nicolette and Danielle were incredibly accommodating and pleasant. They helped with our bags the moment we walked in, showed us right to our room, made sure we had everything we were looking for and were still so chipper when I went down stairs to ask some additional stuff! The mini breakfast smoothie I had with granola on top the first morning I was there...... SO DELICIOUS, especially with the coffee they had available. The morning after they had the perfect portion of pancakes that were delicious, along with a cucumber and grape salad with a yogurt poppyseed dressing! As someone that doesn't often go outside of my normal food comfort zones, it was SO worth the try and I didn't even need to leave my hotel! Other than the whole room being beautifully hand painted, the bedroom and bathroom were extremely clean! The bed was ginormous and had the cutest stepping stool to get into it along with just being plain ol' comfy. The robes they have for you in the closet are so nice after you're out of the shower and have nothin else to do but lounge! If you want to lounge in your normal clothes there are SEVERAL adorable places in the Inn to do so! Long story short, this Inn is so worth a visit if you appreciate eclectic art that keeps your eyes busy for hours, cute reading nooks by windows looking out into Portland, a warm fire to wake up to and smiling faces all around!

Don't get me wrong; the smell of cooked goodies in the background and the 1,500 piece puzzle slapped in front of the roaring gas fireplace are thoughtful touches. But the lengthy explanation when you register of how to avoid a $15 parking ticket (in place of "free parking") and the over $300/night price, are rather off putting. Please explain how this 8+ bedroom older than god residence finds itself listed as a hotel on sites such as Expedia and Hotels.com. I'm discovering this more and more alarming as you travel through New England. Little startup investors bill themselves as hotels when all they seem to be are old homes with a bunch of beds and $$ signs in someone's eyes. The Pomegranate Inn is the latest in the line of promised romance and failed expectation. My recommendation? Check in at the local Holiday Inn instead.

There is a wonderful side parking lot to accommodate several guest cars - it might be a smidgen tight for big vehicles like trucks but there is also street parking nearby! Jackie helped us to our room during check in and gave some helpful tips and requests to make our stay so comfy. The Garden room was beautifully decorated and including a relaxing full sized tub. Although rainy during our visit, it is closest to the outdoor patio space to enjoy! After sharing about the room, Jackie gave us some amazing recommendations for restaurants and things to do that we very much used throughout our time in the greater Bath area! Jackie's breakfast was hearty, delicious, and locally sourced - the breakfast frittata and potatoes were so yummy! She respectfully tries to seat groups throughout the morning so that no one is crowded - allowing you to meet fellow travelers or keep to yourself as fits your morning preferences. She also gave us more suggestions for our 2nd day of adventures and again they did not disappoint! She left us a very yummy takeaway breakfast for our last morning as sadly we had to depart for our flight before breakfast. At every turn, Jackie and the Inn at Bath made for such a memorable experience. We would love to come back someday and we recommend it so much!

The air smells like saltwater woods and wildflowers.

Upon our arrival, there was no one to greet us or direct us to our room. Instead, there was a locked front door and a note saying the entry instructions were included in an email sent sometime earlier. There was also a phone number to call if we needed help. So, standing there on the stoop, in the rain with my wife and our luggage, tired from a long day of driving, I called the number. Milan answered and repeated what the note had said about the instructions being sent via email sometime earlier. So now, still standing on the stoop, I'm scrolling through emails trying to find the one they sent me a day or two earlier. I eventually found a lengthy email with all sorts of information, most of which was irrelevant to us. I sifted through that haystack of verbage and finally found the needle containing the entry instructions and got into the place. Once in, we had to search around to find our room, eventually found it and got settled in, a little frustrated at the experience of getting there. Nevertheless, the room was nice and Milan later showed up (evidently sensing our irritation at the hoops we'd been required to jump through) and told us breakfast was served at a second inn a block away and we were welcome to join them in the morning. We passed on that. If you like the modern e-era, minimal human interaction and packaged treats from Costco, this place is for you. On the other hand, if you're looking for a little nicer experience, you'll be disappointed.

They bend over backwards to try and make your stay memorable. The inn is a wonderful old Phippsburg home and has many different rooms you can stay in. The beds and linens were divine, the bathrooms more humble of the rooms I crept into to have a discrete look. Our room the Woodshed was an.....old woodshed! It overlooked the water, and the early morning brought....SILENCE! Wonderful....no noise, little light...thus we snoozed for ages.....and did other things in complete privacy.....but none of that is your business!!!!! The breakfast time is flexible, the food served satisfying and fresh. We had fresh scrambled eggs with ham mixed in, started with greek yoghurt and fresh berries...but you could choose from many items. Now onto the tea.....being a fellow innkeeper (who's standards are demanding!!!!) and BRITISH....I am VERY demanding on my morning cuppa....and they delivered! The home is impressive and Phippsburg and Bath in general are not like Camden....over developed and touristy. You can cycle from their inn to Popham beach and fort...where there is a great restaurant, not fussy, serving fresh lobster (out of the tank in front of you!) and a plethora of other dishes. John & Jackie the innkeepers try to please in a quiet and relaxed way, are not over burdening, and take pride in their home....but do welcome one to use many parts of it. The setting overlooks the water and is next to a church....I could go on....but won't....just get yourselves booked in when you are 'doing' the Maine coast.

Rooms are beautiful, beds are very comfortable, and there's a ton of indoor and outdoor common space. John and his staff were so nice (Jackie was out of town, but sounds like she's great too) and we and our friends instantly felt at home. It's well worth the price, which is very much on par with other places in the area that aren't nearly as beautiful, comprehensive, or welcoming. I added a photo from first thing in the morning. I got up, grabbed some coffee and homemade granola with yogurt and fresh fruit and went and sat on the deck overlooking the river. Such a great way to start the day. A little hint - when you call to book, don't be put off by how laid-back they are about the reservations. I don't think they asked for any money up-front to confirm or anything. Being 'city-folk', we found this a little scary, but they are on the ball. Don't worry! There's a lot to do in the area, too, if you like the outdoors - go down to Popham Beach and take a walk, visit Fort Popham, grab lunch or dinner at Spinney's, hike one of the many trails, bring a bike and tackle the windy, hilly Parker Hill Road, or pop into Bath if you want a little more (but not too much) action. We'll go back for sure. Would love to visit in another season.

The inn keeper was very accommodating and pleasant, and prepared us an eclectic European style continental breakfast. The inn has been updated with tasteful and interesting decor and character, and it is so much more charming than staying at a large chain hotel. Our Green Eyes room was spacious and bright, but we also enjoyed the various seating areas on the first and third floors, and the basement billiards room and Peloton. The hotel is in a quieter residential area, but a short walk from the busier commercial district with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. I would highly recommend staying at the Blind Tiger while visiting Portland!
