I received a quick call back from Tom at Jam Roofing...I explained that we had decided to contact our insurance company to see if they would cover a claim. Tom asked to stop by and take a look, regardless of whether we were going to pursue a full blown roof job - he was willing to take some photos and give us his opinion. As 2 other roofers quoted a fee to look at our roof, I appreciated Toms "good customer service" approach. It was Toms professional opinion that the roof was badly damaged. Fast forward to our insurance inspector - our insurance company responded that hail damage was minimal and sent us a check for $1900 to cover some cosmetic damage. I am not very familiar with the type of spray roof on our home, but it did not take a rocket scientist to see that it was damaged (and to see the leaks in our ceiling). After a discussion with Tom, he suggested that I ask for a re-inspection with an adjuster who is specifically familiar with this type of roof - and he would arrange to meet the adjuster at our home. About 4 days later, our insurance company contacted us with the news that they would total our roof and provide a very fair settlement payment. 48 hours after that I had money in hand and contacted Tom to let him know that he earned our business. We signed a contract to upgrade from our current Elastomeric spray roof to a more durable rubber roof. At the same time we chose to install an additional evaporative cooler on the roof, and Tom provided a reference for a heating/cooling company that he's coordinated work with in the past (will post about these great folks in another review). We paid a % of the total up front for material cost and in about 2 weeks we were contacted to set a start date. At the exact time I was told, up pulls a roll-off dumpster, and shortly after a bunch of trucks with material and our work crew. Over the course of the tear-off and installation, the crew worked diligently, professionally and respected our home - leaving the job site clean and clear of any debris. Weather created some small delays in completion, but as soon as the sun was shining again, the crew was on the job. Throughout the process, Tom would check in with us and review the work. He also personally completed the final bits of fit and finish. So, here is where the rubber (roof) meets the road...this was a big, expensive job and I am so satisfied with the service, communication and quality that I want to shout it from the rooftop (pun intended). Seriously, how often have you dealt with folks that call you back quickly (every time), do exactly what they say and do it in the exact time they promise to do it? That is Jam Roofing. The quality of the work, details, fit and finish are evident - we got a super high quality roof that I am confident will provide many years of protection and comfort...and we got the help we needed in facilitating an insurance claim that was favorable. Their price came in around the same as other contractors, but they did include removing our pergola at essentially no cost, while another contractor quoted an extra $1000 to remove it - likely because they didn't want to remove it. Stay far away from them if you're not in a reasonable service area. They are an insurance claim chaser company and will step all over you to get at your payout. They sent different people out to inspect and provide quotes (gutter and soffits/fascia was the scope requested). I did not ask for a roof assessment but the gutter guy thought it might be eligible for an insurance replacement, so I said sure send the guy on out and let's see what happens. That's where it got really.... interesting. My first appointment was for a Friday. I asked for a specific time so I could manage my work schedule around the inspection. A time was agreed upon. Nobody showed up. I had to initiate contact to find out that they would not be coming that day due to the time/distance. We rescheduled and on the rescheduled date, I reached out early to confirm the time and was told the inspector would be 30min late. I readjusted my work calendar and was notified it would be an additional 15min. This turned out to very much work in my favor. The inspection was very thorough and took about 1.5hr. At the conclusion of the inspection I was told they can convince the insurance company to replace the roof. They showed me what ended up being a contract, but was not presented as such explicitly by name. I was asked to sign before they revealed the "fine print" on the back page - which involved having the insurance company sign the check over to Rex Roofing rather than me (I have USAA). This didn't sit well after discussing with several people and reviewing the fine print. I voided the contract within the 72 hour grace period so I can get a second opinion, gather additional quotes, and control my own insurance payout (if that happens). Instead of responding to me to confirm they received my email (always document in writing! With time stamps!) they forwarded it to the inspector who started texting me asking to "resolve" the situation. I explained, as I had in the email, that I would be taking my insurance payout myself and I requested a "cash price" quote from them. I was then told there was no way my insurance company would approve it without the inspector present, a number of wild assumptions and insinuations were made, and I was essentially berated by text by the salesman for exercising a legal right to void the contract. I had to block his number because he would not stop texting me to mansplain how I had no idea what I was doing as a homeowner and he was the only person who could convince my insurance adjuster to cover the roof. Turns out he was right - they talked me into opening a claim, the adjuster said the roof is perfectly fine and they would replace only one portion of one downspout that had hail damage. I can't tell you how the "value" of this company compares to others because they said they would do the work "for a price agreed upon with the insurance company" without providing a scope of work or any numbers of any kind in writing - so I guess they're not really interested in much besides doing the job for as much as they can squeeze out of the insurance company. I might not have made a USAA claim myself but everyone else in my family has.

However, All Seasons Exteriors did such outstanding work on my roof replacement that I decided to share my experience with others. Here are the key facts: 1. All Seasons was recommended by my insurance company for the replacement of my roof. 2. I requested quotes from 3 companies. Two companies concluded that insurance would not cover the repair. All Seasons Exteriors felt that there was a 70% chance that insurance would cover it and recommended that I submit a claim. 3. All Seasons met with the claims adjuster and climbed up on the roof to show them the damage and helped the insurance company to prepare the claim. Some time lapsed and a different claims adjuster was assigned. All Seasons met with the new adjuster and repeated the process of submitting a claim. The claim was approved by insurance. 4. All Seasons met with me at my home to ensure that the roof color would match the house. They also helped me to select a shingle upgrade that would reduce my future homeowners insurance premiums. 5. The only payment that was required from me was my insurance deductible (plus a shingle upgrade that I decided to purchase). All Seasons waited until I received proceeds from the insurance company before final billing.
