This has been our usual store for going on 20 years. After Kroger bought the chain, we've noticed a general decline. Don't give me wrong - it's still not the worst Harris Teeter in the area, but you can see the changes. First off, the managers must be getting judged on how many ad spots are being played. It's one ad per pop song. You are getting an ad about every three or four minutes. The store near Duke University doesn't play loud music nor the ads and it's a much more pleasant experience.Ii'm already shopping here: you don't need to keep trying to sell me or brainwash me. If I wanted music, I would've brought my headphones. Actually, I *do* bring my headphones because they help shut out the ads. Whatever marketing demons you've summoned, HT/Kroger, big surprise that they lied to you about what will make customers more loyal to your store. Second, the chances are now higher of getting a check-out person who is more interested in getting back to their phone than giving you attentive service. To me this says that they aren't getting paid enough to care. I don't hold it against these kids, but I do note the different attitude. To end on a high note, they do care about their fruits and vegetable section and I have generally gotten really good service at the deli. It's not that this is a bad store, it's just not the great store that it used to be. read more

I live in NY and never heard of this place. To my surprise I was totally please with the cleanliness and very accommodating staff in the store Chapel Hill on MLK Blvd. The prices were responsible (again I'm from NYC) and the freshness of the deli Dept, the fruits and veggies as well as the meats was outstanding. The check woman was very kind to us out of towners and used her employee discount for us as my daughter filled out the Teeter discount card. She gave us advice on the best days to shop for discounts and my daughter said she will follow her advice. I can't wait to return down to NC to visit because I look forward to returning to this store!! read more

This is my friends' neighborhood grocery so I stopped in a couple of times while visiting them over a long weekend. The store is well laid out and was really clean. The staff was nice and helpful. The signage was good and even as a newbie I could find what I was looking for. The parking lot seemed a bit janky but that may just be the drivers.... the manager on duty at this store, a white blonde woman, racially profiled the person i was shopping with by stopping him with one item and a receipt in his hand, meanwhile, i, also a white woman, walked by with 10+ items in my bags and was not approached. when she realized she had made a mistake, she did not look my friend in the eyes, and instead handed back the receipt and without apology or regret, motioned for us to leave the store. we did so. my friend was polite and cooperative despite her prejudice. being the only black male in the vicinity, it was painfully obvious as to why she chose to stop him. read more

This store has an excellent selection of comestibles and other food products, and things that one would eat, if one were so inclined to eat.

While Harris should have most of what you need, their shelves are usually poorly stocked. The worst thing about the store is that, although it is mandatory that people wear masks in a store HT is not enforcing it. read more

Although I feel weird reviewing a single Harris Teeter--one of many of the ubiquitous chain here in North Carolina, this one stands out for me. Since it's located at the upper fringes of Chapel Hill, it has plenty of room to spread out--unlike, say, the one in Carrboro. As a result, it has a lot of floor space devoted to a slightly more upscale clientele, probably a business move to compete with Whole Foods and similar places where people can buy cruelty-free tofu. At any rate, what's impressed me here lately is an embiggened deli area, complete with a really nice olive bar. They also have a good selection of fancier store-baked bread and a lot of uncommon fruits and vegetables. The aisles are wide and easy to navigate, and there are plenty of banks of self-checkout machines. So, um, yeah. That's my review of...a Harris Teeter. You can all sleep soundly now. read more

Alright. When I first moved here, I loved this supermarket. My name is Harry. This place is my teeter! Harry's Teeter. Anyways.... As far as grocery stores go, you walk into a nice brightly lit store with a decent produce area, deli, clean butcher/fish area. It's stocked like a standard grocery store with a pretty nice beer and wine area. You'll find most of the normal stuff, but where it lacks for me is in two areas: 1 - Ethnic foods. Oh sure it's got the ethnic isle where I can buy salsa and some asian noodles, but in the meat department I couldn't find ox tail for the longest time (after numerous requests I see it occasionally). 2 - Price. Harris Teeter has the highest prices of all the grocery stores in the area. Be aware of that. I'm usually surprised that my groceries cost so much for what I've gotten, but when you mess with my teeter, expect to pay out the nose. Food Lion, Lowe's, and other stores can save you more. Though some ladies know how to work the coupons to really max out the Teeter's double and triple coupon deals. Still for the clean, well stocked, convenient grocery store - this is one of our family's main grocery stores. read more

What can I say about this location? It is great! Period! It is a market style store with a great deli and a HUMONGOUS selection of beer and GOOD wines. Very convenient location right of of MLK. Only negatives, parking spots are a little small and the prices can be a bit high if you don't have your VIC card. Otherwise, GO TEETERING! read more

I stopped going here due to understaffing issues, that are constant After six months went tonight... it was Worse! Came around the corner, ONLY two checkouts open and the self serve express, the line went all the way to the pharmacy. Why did they build approximately 13 checkout lanes? Had to leave my basket at the managers desk... he was hiding again. Shop for ten minutes and wait in line to pay? I swear, the people in CH just don't realize how good they have it when it comes to groceries. After growing up in CH, I too might have said Teeter is just an okay grocery store. Now, after living in Boston and NYC - to have a store this big with this much affordable fresh produce and special foods, I feel grateful! Parking is becoming more scarce due to the construction and mall revitalization efforts, but still a good store. And one of the better Teeters in the area (come on the Carrboro one is ACTUALLY awful). I also disagree with the people who said you can't find organic/fair trade/fresh/healthy - HT has all of these things, maybe just not always local. read more

Back in 2008, I used to frequent this particular Teeter on my way home to Hillsborough from work in Chapel Hill. Other than the higher-than-average prices I've now come to expect from any HT, I never had any complaints. I've long since moved to Carrboro, but recently spent two weeks house-sitting in the northern part of Chapel Hill and had the opportunity to shop here again. The store's much the same as I remember--clean, well-stocked, and well-lit. It's large, but not overwhelmingly so like the Kroger on Southwest Durham Drive. The produce, floral, and prepared foods departments are all very good. The employees are friendly and helpful. I certainly prefer this location over the one in my neighborhood, but it's out of my way for weekly shopping. read more

As a professor of pharmaceutical sciences with over 25 years of experience I was appalled that your pharmacist has refused to sell me a syringe for my Ukrainian guest who was in need of injection of her medication. Obviously "However, because North Carolina statute on drug paraphernalia prohibits the distribution or sale of syringes if it is known that such items will be used for illicit drug purposes, the decision of whether or not to sell syringes is essentially left up to the discretion of pharmacists and pharmacies." I take it personally as your pharmacist made a discretionary decision that I will use it for illicit pei poses. I make a discretionary decision that your pharmacy sucks and it is not the first time I am disappointed with your customer service - interpersonal relations since I made a forced decision to switch to your pharmacy due to the problems with supply of my essential medication in mine. If I have to continue using your pharmacy I will be doing that reluctantly. If I could I will switch to somewhere else. What a waste of my time! read more

I love this place! They have a lot of items I found interest in, and they even make various sushi rolls right in the store for less than you would pay in a restaurant. Granted it's not traditional Japanese sushi, it's still decently priced for what you get. Prices are okay, some items are a lot cheaper than you would pay at other places, including Wal Mart. They didn't have everything I wanted from there, but the service, knowledgeable and kind employees made up for it. read more

The grocery pickup at this location struggles big time. I go between this location or Erwin Rd in Durham and Chapel Hill North has had my ordered delayed 2.5 hours and then a full day. Then upon trying to pick up, they took 18 minutes to bring it out. The Durham location has never been delayed in the 6 months I've used them and always come out within 3-5 min. read more

What irks me the most about HT is how misleading their sales are. It seems to me that the original pre-sale price is exaggerated, thus creating a false low price for the sale. Take Heineken 12packs for instance. HT will mark the original price @ $17.99 then mark it down to a sale price of $14.99. Any Heineken drinker will tell you that the average price of Heineken in this area is $14.99 with a sale price of $11.99. Its not just beer that is overpriced. Most items across the board are easily 15-30% higher than other supermarkets. So what justifies these high prices? Is it the impeccable service? NO. Is it the overall shopping experience? NO, you have to push your cart down an aisle like everywhere else. Is it that they carry exotic hard to find items? Nope. I will say that there is some good value in their weekly specials. There are also some very good deals in the meat department. This however does not make up for the fact that you will be overpaying for every other item in your cart. read more

Compared to other Harris teeters I've been to and the standards they live up to. This was the worse most dirtiest one I've visited. The bathrooms alone spoke a lot about the place. You can tell a lot about a place you either buy food or dine in at by the bathroom. Would you shop or eat at an establishment that has a nasty dirty bathroom that isn't kept. And the employees are too lazy to clean it up and replace needed items. Or get the bathroom smelling good. read more

I stopped in this afternoon to pick up a snack on the way home. I decided on a Boars Head package of ham and cheese cross cut wraps with lettuce. Starving, I dug in sitting in the parking lot. Yuck! It was filled with grit from unwashed lettuce. I couldn't even work through it. It was sandy. If the didn't wash the sand off, I guess whatever field "additives" there were are still there. I'm a one and done guy. You don't get a second chance to gross me out or make me sick. read more

She's very informative, knowledgeable, cares about the patients & I can always count on her to give me the proper information with complete accuracy, as well with a smile. This is the worst HT in the whole area, needs updating. Older store, small. No upgrades like the other HT's have. Trash in shopping carts, is frankly disgusting. Cashiers appear overworked and often rude. Produce is old, filled with fruit flies. I think they should either scrap this store or update it! read more

Not that this review will have any effect on HT, but I felt the need to write it. I wanted to try the grocery pickup option as this location is near my home. I made a small order of items to prepare for dinner, one of which was a roasted turkey breast from the deli. I received a VM that my order was ready 2 hrs early, but I couldn't get there until my scheduled time of 4:30. When the "runner" or "shopping specialist" comes to my car, he says there are no turkeys available. Say what?? "Do you want me to go check and see if there are any baking?" Yes, of course I do! Runner comes back, they don't do turkey breast on Monday's. WT? So I ask, "why did I get a message that my order was complete and ready, minus one bread substitute". I'm not sure ma'am. Oy ve!! "So you mean to tell me that no one even bothered physically walking to the deli to ask if they were doing turkey breasts today"? I'm not sure ma'am! You know what, just cancel my entire order .......there goes dinner plans! The most inadequate, inefficient operation I've ever seen! You had one shot to get it right on my first attempt. A basic small order! One and done! I can't speak for the other locations, but SKIP this one for grocery orders!! read more

This store is on the decline while other HT's in the area are SO much nicer. Produce is often rotten. Trash all in the carts and on the floor when you walk in is NOT very inviting. So sad to see a store that used to be nice on such a downward spiral. Maybe they aren't investing in this store anymore because they are going to tear it down and start anew. I went to the deli and they were quick to make me a sub and made me aware of the specials for the day! able to get me in and out quick and they have a great selection! this store is so big, i can find everything I need! My wife filled out the appropriate form to order a fresh (unfrozen)turkey for Xmas. When I arrived to pick it up, they claimed they did not have a turkey for us, and had no form. They did give us a frozen turkey --but that is not at all what we wanted. Unreliable. read more

This is the worst Harris Teeter I've ever shopped at. Their customer service is non existent. I live less than one mile from this HT & only shop here if I need an item quickly. I won't go on about the poor customer service ( their "Butcher's" are awful) & experiences I've had here. This past Sat evening I went to get a bottle of wine for a dinner party, went to self check out & the large man that was the cashier was much more interested in talking to the security guard than he was in assisting customers. This is not the 1st time. Management does not care about their customers at all. It's to be expected when shopping this location. read more

I generally have had a ok time here but had a very unpleasant experience. My girlfriend went to go find what we were looking for and I went to the bathroom for I was I'm distress and hurting bad. I'm my frantic situation I accidentally went into the women's bathroom. A embarrassing moment in itself. A women that worked there knocked and said it was the women's. Embarrassed I apologized and went to the men's. Outside the door I heard her bellyaching and complaining about how it's obviously marked men's and women's. I was in pain and had panicked. She was exceptionally mean about the embarrassing accident. I've have been shown here that Harris teeter employees don't care about there customers and just want to work there job and get paid. Not caring about how there customers experience there store. Harris teeter has a great selection in food but there employees at least shown by this don't care if there customers feel bad about themselves. I don't blame them for not understanding the situation but don't talk crap about me when I can here it perfectly. read more

This is now two days in a row I have gotten a less than pleasant attitude from an employee here. Last night I clearly inconvenienced everyone by ordering a sub at 6:45pm. I offered to go with whatever was easiest to make since they stop serving subs at 7pm on a Friday. The response I got from them being short with me was "Sorry its the end of the night". This is not the first poor encounter with getting a sub so Im done with that. This morning I came in early(6:30am) for an advertised "Saturday Only" flash sale on full racks of ribs. The gentleman who was stocking near the protein was very helpful and pleasant. I was trying to locate the again advertised for "Saturday Only" flash sale and he kindly pointed me in the right direction. Wish I caught his name because he really was great. However, the employee behind the deli counter was the opposite. I asked him where the ribs were located in which he pointed out to me but then proceeded to tell me that it was "too early, its only 6:35am" Because apparently 6:35am isn't a part of Saturday and by my asking him about it clearly I offended him. Again I remind you it was a special for Saturday. Needless to say I walked out with no ribs today and definitely will not in the future either. I can go across the street to Food Lion and not be made to feel like I'm a thorn in their side!....To be fair I would give the cashiers a solid 5 stars. They are very pleasant and smile a lot. Sarah and Logan stand out in particular. There's also a younger female manager that is great as well! read more
