cleaning my back bathroom i came across a small drip on the pipe over the hot water heater. Having seen Wells and sons around, i called them. the repair person Jason, is his name arrived the following morning. he was wearing a mas, as i was too. he looked it over, told me what he wanted to do and i said go ahead. Well he was done in one hours time and the work was great. totally satisfied. this work was done in a small bathroom with the water heater squeezed in between the shower and a wall. the reason for only 4 stars is due to the cost of $110 per hour. thought that was a little high. Tonight we had a sewage backup that caused a drain pipe to burst and pour water from the ceiling into our basement and also coming up from the ground from the sewer backup. Their website says: We offer 24/7 emergency services. * New installations * Remodeling services * Sewer line replacement * Emergency plumbing services * Plumbing repair services and much more! I suppose I made the assumption that if they are plumbers with 24 hour service and offer sewer line replacement they can handle a backed up sewer. But if they cannot, they ought to at least make sure their answering service know this! I called and spoke to their service. Told them exactly what was going on - busted pipe, sewage backing up. Was told to expect a call back in 15-20 minutes. After about 35 minutes I called again. They're not sure why I didn't get a call back. Wait another half an hour. Finally get a call from the "plumber" who literally just said, "you have a problem with sewer call someone else because there's nothing I can do for you." Seriously? I wouldn't recommend this company unless they WERE the only plumbing company left in the area. And then I'd try to fix it myself first. That's NOT customer service. If you can't do the job, just tell me. When I call the first time. Not over an hour later with sewage still backing up into my house. read more

Had them come and replace a kitchen faucet for our tenant. The tenant had the faucet. The cost for this 25 minute job was $385 dollars-oops no, add on an 89 dollar " dispatch fee" so the cost for a 25 minute job was 474 dollars. Do your due diligence. Avoid. Last time I had them out repairing my furnace took $950 and screenplay my heating up. Had them do work in spring. Plumber left and we couldn't shut off heat. Called and got attitude about coming back to fix it. Went down to look and emergency heat was left on after he left!!! In winter of course now heat downstairs doesn't come on, upstairs won't shut off. This is going to cost more money to have a competent plumber fix. I will NEVER use this company again! read more

I live in a 120 year old house, so of couse there's going to be problems.... well, the heating seemed to have gone out in certain rooms of the house. This wasn't much of a suprise since the pipes were making really loud noises for awhile. We called our trusted plumbing company Harry W Wells & Sons and they came to our rescue! We called around 7:15am, and the lady told us someone would be out to the house between midmorning and noon. Jay arrived right on time around 10:30 and was able to diagnose and explain what the problem was. He explained what needed to be done, which parts needed to be replaced and why, and performed the necessary tests. He was quick, efficient, polite and very knowledgable. This is the third time we've used Harry W Wells and Sons. It is a local company located within our neighborhood, so that is a plus! The first time we needed a new water heater installed and they did the installation quickly with no hiccups afterwards. The second time we had a cast iron toilet flange issue and the plumbers got down and dirty to fix it! I should stress here the issues are independent of any previous work provided by Harry W Wells and Sons- these are all separate issues with the house! Each time we've had a really quick response from Harry W Wells and Sons and have been really impressed with the service. The cost of materials and repairs are very reasonable as well. read more

They had an opening that day and showed up within the time window I was told. Jim responded to the call and was very polite and professional. He was shown the bathroom and the basement ceiling and quickly found what was wrong. I was terrified of being ripped off due to my lack of knowledge in the plumbing field. Just had a hot water mixing valve replaced. Took one hour, part costs $97 at Home Depot, no soldering involved. Price $420, he charged me $255 for the $97 part and an tacked on an additional 30 minutes of labor!!! Outrageous. Do NOT use this company. We used this company when we first moved into our home and renovated the upstairs bathroom. We spent thousands of dollars on their plumbing services and I am completely disgusted by their service. The plumbing upstairs leaked resulting in a damaged downstairs ceiling. They came back and "fixed" what they said was a loose connection and even paid the repair for the ceiling. However, it happened again! And now we can't even get a call back from the company because the manager is out giving "quotes" today. Absolutely disgusted not only by their service, but by their lack of loyalty to customers. BEWARE! This company lacks Customer Service skills... First, they told us there wasn't a charge to come out and investigate the problem - surprised when i was told to fork over $100! Second, the rude technician was in my house for 10 mins and diagnosed the problem. When we started to have the same issue a week or so later, they said the wouldn't come out without charging the $100 fee again! We paid $160 for this company to fix the problem. When the water heater wasn't fixed, they refused to rectify the problem unless I paid the $100 fee again. I'm convinced the technician replaced the part that was easiest for him and it wasn't even the real problem. When I called to talk to someone, the owner told me to get someone else to fix it and said he "was just blowing smoke" for all the previous convos we've had. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE USING HARRY WELLS unless you're into rude customer service and paying for broken parts. My next call is to the BBB! read more

I have been overcharged for some light plumbing work done by Wells recently. Installed were some sillcocks and a Delta shower valve. The sillcocks were marked up 100% and the valve was marked up 300%. All told I was charged $516 for about $125 in hardware. That kind of a markup is completely unreasonable for any service business. On top of that the installer spent 1.5 hours retrieving parts and a half hour writing up the invoice.(for which you are charged). I could have picked all of it up in about a 1/2 hour. While the work was competent I am left completely unsatisfied by the experience. I cannot recommend this plumber due to this. Oh, and they have not returned my call to discuss this. read more

Have had several very good experiences with Harry W Wells & Son, including toilet repairs, garbage disposal replacement, and cleaning the strainers in the thermostatic mixing valve on the hot water tank. This last problem left us without enough hot water pressure to take a shower on a Saturday. He did not make it pass the front door of my house, I was disgusted and told him to leave. On April 11, 2014 I scheduled a service call with Harry W Wells & Son. Inc. located on 19 Crown St., Nashua, New Hampshire to examine my AC unit which was losing R22 gas and not functioning properly. The service technician spent roughly 5 minutes looking at my interior AC unit and outside fan. His only observation was that my system was low in pressure and had lost gas, which I already knew and was what was recorded by the previous service provider. Despite my requests to do so he would not attempt to look for the source of the leak or confirm whether the coil was damaged. Although he insisted that he be paid $104 for a full hour's work, he refused to spend more than roughly 10 minutes in total on the site. Any respectable and professional technician would have spent a few more minutes to at least make an attempt to diagnose the problem. When I asked whether he would provide a quote for a new AC system, he commented than his firm really does not have the capability or manpower to perform that job. I would strongly recommend against the services of Harry W Wells AC repair. read more

I had a technician come out today to give ma a quote on replacing the circulator pump on my boiler. He took great offense when I asked him to cover his boots with protectors because I have new white carpet. He actually looked at his boots and said they were clean after coming in my house from a snowing driveway. He took pictures, told me he would take them back to his office and let me know something soon. About an hour after he left, he called me and told me they were to busy to do the work for me. I called Maci plumbing, which sold me the part, told me how to fix if, and gave me his card and told me to call him if I had any problems. Called Wells at 8am spoke with a woman who said she never heard of the type of water heater (direct vent) that I was in need of and said she would have someone call me in an hour. CONSUMER BEWARE...I had my central A/C serviced and on the second day after they recharged my system it failed and stopped cooling. I spoke with Tom a manager to set-up the visit and we had agreed that the tech would check for leaks and if not found he stated that if I needed to recharge the following year they would not do it and I agreed and understood their policy if a leak went undetected, so they sent Dave the tech and all was well on that day but the following day it failed. I called them and spoke with Dave the tech and asked him if he had found the leak since nothing was stated on the receipt about the leak. He stated that he only charged it (half hour for $100 + 120 R22) and did not look for any leaks so I asked to speak with Tom and he was out that day so I left my contact information so he could call me back and assist in resolving this matter and I never received a call from him or anyone from HW. Untrustworthy and deceitful business people. Will never call them again or recommend their services to anyone. read more

The first time I used their service back in 2011 was very good experience. The plumber Jay came over at mid night to fix a water pipe leak, and the charge was very reasonable. This week I called them again for an A/C checkup service. The workmanship was ok, but I have a question regarding the hours charged. Apparently the hours charged for labor included the time when they were driving to the house, not from the time they arrive and start the actual work. I think this is utterly unreasonable to the customers as the customers should not bear the cost for their time spent on road for whatever the reasons they may claim, or whether this is industry standard or not they may argue. The time of their driving on road should be their costs of business, not customers' respinsibility. I would caution people on this hidden cost from this company. I thought they were a reasonable service and when you are reasonable to your customers you win their hearts, and now vice versa of course. read more

February 14th. Like a lot of people my heat went out. Called Wells, and knew it would be a wait. Not a huge deal. I had to go to work, so I had them call my wife when they were on the way. They showed up at 1 pm which was fine. The tech removed my heater covers in all but my coldest room. I came home from work and he was still here. Trying to still find the problem where my pipe may have been frozen. He tried to heat the pipes and heat my basement to try and free up the line. Said he could not understand where it might be. I went into my mud room, removed the only heater covers he did not remove, and found the frozen broken pipe. It took me about ten minutes to figure out it might be an issue in the coldest room in the house. They cut the pipes to the room got the heat back up and running in about a 1/2 hour. I got billed for 4 1/2 hours. Not real happy that I was the one that found the broken pipe in (again) the coldest room in the house. Wouldn't you think you might check there first????? He did say he would not charge me for the second guy that came and just stood around feeling the cold pipes. Thanks.
