my friends and I came on a saturday night to catch a world cup game, and the energy was great! there are TVs everywhere inside and outside on the patio which is where we sat. It was the perfect atmosphere to hang out and talk with friends while having a fun drink and watching the game. the drinks were all fantastic- I'd heard a lot about the matcha martini and it was even better than I'd imagined. It's a strong drink but the matcha was also really rich and creamy. so dangerous because I could've had like 5 more. I also got the black cherry cosmo which was so delicious. we got a basket of harry's french fries to share, which were amazing- they were so fresh and crispy and everybody loved them. a couple of us also got the steak and fries, which was just okay. the steak was a bit tough and overcooked, but again the fries were great. service was decently quick considering how busy it was too. overall, I would absolutely come back to have a drink or catch a game with friends! read more

The staff are great! The bar tenders, servers, and the bar manager are all welcoming, friendly, and very accommodating. That alone makes the experience and entices me to return. The food is decent for bar food. I recently ordered the short rib sandwich and likely would not order it again but it was filling. I have also had chicken sandwich and it is also very filling. Unfortunately, my experience at Harry's Bar was lukewarm. Or maybe lukecold? I sat at the bar and sat at the bar and sat at the bar. Two guys behind me were greeted and served four beers. Then the bartender moved on to the end of bar. Well that sucked. She came back around, but had her back turned. I'd say I was there 10 minutes without being greeted. Then off I went to Japantown. We've eaten and drank here a few times over the years and it's never a bad time. The service is quick, bartenders are nice, and it's not a bad bar stop when in this part of the city. The food is on the pricier side for the quality but I think the happy hour deals are worth coming for if you are trying to save a little. This is a great spot if you are trying to watch any kind of professional sports game. We stopped here during the Fillmore jazz fest for a drink because Harry's is always a classic spot to stop. The bar area was packed and all tables said reserved, but I asked the waiter if 3 of us could sit down for drinks and he was nice enough to open a table. The bourbon smash wasn't my favorite. I would definitely opt for the cucumber melon margarita next time. The flavors complimented each other a bit better with the margarita. We also decided to order nachos with braised short ribs so we could all share. That was underwhelming. The chips were the thin chips that break easily so wasn't great to eat nachos with. And the short ribs were hidden under some sour cream and guac, but there was very little. For $25 nachos, I was pretty disappointed. Lesson learned - only order drinks at Harry's. read more

We ordered the calamari, jalepeno, and onions to start and I wanted the beet salad as my main and he ordered the baby back ribs as his. Someone different dropped off the calamari in front of my bf and the salad in front of me. The calamari had three little dishes of dip. Not sure what they were. Maybe tarter and a Marinara. The third was greenish. The calamari was like rubber bands. It was So, so chewy. We didn't eat it. No one checked on us and I had to ask four people for water refill. I put my salad off to the side to wait for my bf's ribs. When they arrived we didn't really have room for the calamari plate or drinks on the table since the table was small. We didn't really want the calamari anyway, but no one asked so it sat until we paid. A Server spilled water when finally refilling, but she apologized and was quick to clean it. bF liked the truffle Mac and cheese and ribs. My salad was fine. Slightly soggy. Wouldn't get again. We asked for boxes. Waited. Guy who sat us came to check us out. No mention of birthday or if we wanted to have dessert. So we left for dessert at home. read more

Went to this bar tonight and my friend was immediately cut off by the server that asked for our ids' at the entrance while standing next to a table with at least 9 empty glasses and obviously drunk men. When we placed our orders our server told us that he was unable to serve my friend even after I informed him that my friend not only had a speech impediment but was also partially deaf. Had an awful experience here for Wednesday trivia and would not recommend anyone to attend. Their $35 minimum per person is stated in the fine print of their reservation system, but is not otherwise advertised until you arrive to your table. This would have been fine, considering we had a 6 person reservation and met our minimum, but we had two friends unexpectedly join with maybe an hour left of trivia (who both ordered food AND drinks) and the server insisted that we must cover the additional $70 in minimums. At this point we asked for our check and said we would give up our table to another group, to which our server replied that our table was wasted on us and could have gone to people who would have spent more money. Seriously. A manager? (I'm not sure who she was as she never introduced herself) came over and was immediately hostile and incredibly rude. She also capitulated on their supposedly hard and fast minimum and told us that we could spend $50 and call it even. I've actually never encountered penny pinching in a restaurant like that before. We begrudgingly gave in and ordered three more drinks that no one wanted. As for service, our drinks took 45 minutes to arrive, our waiter didn't introduce himself, and we saw him once every 30 minutes or so, which is understandable considering it was a rowdy, crowded trivia night at a bar. Hence the insanity of a $35 minimum per person. Mind you, each drink is $15, so you'll have to each order two drinks AND food for every person to satisfy this minimum. I literally have never written a negative yelp review in my life, but I was so off-put by this experience that I felt I needed to warn others. I will not be returning and have nothing nice to say to anyone who asks me about this establishment. read more
