Hartland Electric was hired to do the scheduled maintenance on my generator. A short time later the power went out, the generator went on but would not run properly, ran rough, and would not power the house. I contated Hartland Electric to come take a look and they referred me to a partner of theirs that does repairs instead. I scheduled the repair and when the technician arrived, within 5 minutes he found that one of the two spark plug wires was not reconnected after Hartland Electric did their maintenance. The cost of this unnecessary service call was over $100. I contacted Hartland Electric to inform them of their employees mistake in not reconnecting the spark plug wire, and they said they would look into it and call me back which they never did. Very poor and unethical customer service to not stand behind their work. I would recommend a different electrician!! read more

We purchased a whole house Generac generator from Hartland Electric in October of 2021 with a 10 year warranty. Hartland Electric claims to be a Generac authorized dealer. We had to pay for it up front, at that time. We were told it would be at least 6 months before it would be available. Eight months later on July 5, 2022 it was installed. It exercised weekly as it should have. Our first power outage was in late August. The generator worked as it should have according to the Mobil Link app. Imagine our surprise when we returned home only to find the outside cabinet covered in oil. When we opened the lid, the entire contents were covered with oil and black flecks. Upon contacting Hartland electric they came out and tried to clean up the mess. Jeff changed the oil and filter and let it run while he went to other calls. He came back 3 hours later and again, everything was covered with oil. He gave us a customer service phone number to Generac and washed his hands of us. Jeff and the owner (his wife) did not return any phone calls after that. Basically took our money and left us high and dry with a defective Generac Generator. Very poor customer service. read more

I want to make an update here. They told me I had burned up neutral wiring in an outlet and that was causing the issue. Turns out the issue was from a loose wire in a gfci outlet in the downstairs bathroom. They made no attempt to fix thier mistake. Horrible company stay away you will get scammed. read more

We had our generator serviced by Hartland Electric a few weeks ago. Paid over $450 for oil change and new battery. It is not working again and the code is battery problem. I called to have them come back out and they refused. They do not stand behind there work. They have a policy of not working on generators they did not install. They did work on it a few weeks ago though and gladly took my money. My husband went out and looked at the battery it was never replaced. Hartland Electric came out timely. They Wrote an estimate on several items. However, Hartland Electric seemed quite high on their quote, so I called other places. Hartland Electric's prices were at least 1/3 higher, (closer to half higher), than other companies I called. When I called back and talked with Sharon, she said she would call me back in the next few days to see what they could do. I even asked Sharon if she would call back or blow me off. I tried to move a wall outlet in the master bathroom to install a new mirror and cabinet. I got the new outlet working, but 2 other outlets stopped working. Branden showed up on time as promised, diagnosed and fixed my wiring mistakes and now all three outlets work again. He was very courteous and quick. AJ and Jacob came over and checked my breaker switch for the well which kept shorting out. They replaced the breaker and switches. Also checked that the wiring was tight and added a grounds wire. I called for a new compressor to have a new plug (that I had) put on three prong 220 the owner said it was a $50 service call. Silly me I figured that shouldn't be a very hard thing for a trained electrician to do but when he got there it was $186 for three wires or I could join the Hartland Electric Club!!! like their Costco and I would need an electrician more than I need food or something. Oh and the CLUB price was $126, with one more call found a licensed electrician for under $100. read more

I recently had a new deck installed which required the hot tub that sits on it to be disconnected and then reconnected. The deck installers disconnected the hot tub and didn't do a very good job which left a mess when it was time for the reconnect. Having worked with Hartland Electric on previous projects for my home and some general assistance with our subdivision electrical needs I didn't hesitate to give them a call. Jeff and A.J. showed up at the appointed time and made the necessary adjustments on the supply line to make it look good to complete the reconnect. We had Hartland Electric install a 20Kw automatic whole-house generator two years ago. They did an excellent job with the installation and even reconfigured the surge circuit in our two panels that had been installed incorrectly by the electrician who wired the house. The entire job was done for a reasonable price, far cheaper than our builder had quoted the year before. I only have two minor gripes about that install. The first is the price they charged to simply pour a couple of yards of concrete for the pad was overpriced, in my opinion. I had built the frame for the pad, they only provided the actual concrete. My other gripe is that they left a considerable amount of small debris by the meter and the transfer switches (outdoors), but I can easily forgive this one because it was December and the temps were in the teens and they had been out in the cold for many hours. Otherwise they cleaned up after themselves well, especially in the basement. read more

About a year or so ago, we hired Hartland to do some major electrical upgrades to my mother's house, which is 50 years old. We asked them to replace the electrical box, change all the outlets to three prong from two prong, and combine two electrical meters into one meter. They charged us over $4,000 for the work. As it turns out, their workmanship was incredibly shoddy and poorly done. Nearly everything has had to be re-done by another company because it shorted out, didn't work, or was incomplete. In addition, when we called them because of problems with the work, they were unresponsive and uncaring. That is why we turned to another company. Here is a list of the problems we have had with Harland. 1. An hour after they finished the work and left, we discovered that the refrigerator was not working. We called them immediately and the receptionist said that they could not come back for 4 days, and that the food would last for several days if we didn't open the door. Wrong. Food does not last that long. They should have come back immediately or else talked to us on the phone. She was completely clueless and borderline rude. Fortunately, we discovered that they had simply forgotten to flip the switch to turn the refrigerator back on. 2. A few month later, our power went out in several rooms, including the kitchen with all appliances. The power was still on in some rooms, so we knew it wasn't an outside line. We called Hartland again and were told they couldn't come for seven days, so we tried another company, who considered our call an emergency, and came within a few hours. They discovered that one of the new outlets had short circuited because a screw hadn't been tightened far enough. They checked all the outlets and had to tighten screws on almost all of them so it wouldn't happen again. They said it was very shoddy workmanship. 3. We get a visit from DTE energy wanting to know why they are getting strange signals from the meters. They found the second meter had only been partially disconnected, and it had been left on the ground. They finished the job and disconnected the meter. 4. The outlet in the bathroom did not work at all. It was wired incorrectly. 5. The wrong size breaker switch was installed in the new electrical box, causing the water heater to be constantly tripping the switch. We are still finding unexpected surprises from the bad work done by Harland Electric. Nearly everything they did has had to be re-done, and I expect that it will all have to be replaced eventually. I just hope that their poor workmanship does not result in a fire or other tragedy. read more

I called to get a quote for 6 can lights in the kitchen. They couldn't give me a price range over the phone and it will cost $49 to have someone give me a quote. I'm not going to waste $49 to findout they're going to charge an outrageous amount or it might not be. To top it off, we only live 2 miles away from their location. read more

This past Dec we had a wall removed in our home, with doing so we needed a thermostat and double switch moved along with an outlet eliminated. Our contractor arranged for Hartland Electric to do the work. We walked the electrician through what we wanted and where we wanted it. The relocation of the light switch was done well. The relocation of the thermostat was a problem, we specifically told Hartland Electric to put it either on the left or right side of an adjacent wall. They put it right in the middle. When we can to check on the work they had drilled a hole in a location that would of worked perfectly but they went ahead and drilled a hole twice in size in the middle of our wall and put it there. With that said we had an other electrician come and relocate it to the original hole Hartland Electric made. For the outlet we requested Hartland Electric to eliminate they did not they relocated it in the most unprofessional way. Hartland Electric put it in 2 feet off the ground next to a window. Keep in mind we have outlets on either side of this. It look horrible! In talking to Hartland Electric they did credit my bill $40 for the poor work, which we think was not enough. We have a bill for $120 from a drywaller to come and fix the extra hole and outlet Hartland Electric created. The conversations had between us and Hartland Electric have been very unprofessional and rude. This was a learning experience we hope no one else has to go through. read more

Over a month+ time period we had several different companies come in and create a quote to install a generator to feed our home. We started each in-home estimate by explaining what we were looking for based on our needs and that we weren't necessarily looking to have the whole house run off the generator. We were surprised at how many of the companies went straight for estimating a generator to feed the entire house when we explained it wasn't what we were looking for. In an attempt to get one or two last estimates, we called around on a Sunday and within minutes Hartland Electric called us back (yes, on a Sunday...talk about customer service!). We scheduled the in-home estimate and it was a refreshing surprise right off the bat as the estimator, Jeff, listened to what we had to say and worked the quote around our needs. In addition, he explained as he reviewed the home what was needed and why in a way that we could follow. This even included the need for a whole home surge protector which he worked with us on ($$$) to stay within our budget. Needless to say, we booked our installation that day. The actual installation day went without a hitch. All of the installers (electrical, gas, etc...) were diligent, professional and very kind and courteous to us and our home. The generator has been installed and we are very happy with it and our choice of Hartland Electric. We will be having them back to take a look at our air conditioner as it may be time to replace it and couldn't imagine using a different Heating and Cooling company to do so.
