Tried Harvey's Breakfast in Greenville yesterday morning and honestly... sometimes you just want a solid, no-frills breakfast spot that does the job well. It was busy, but not chaotic. Think Waffle House energy, but local and without the franchise feel. You could tell people actually come there because they enjoy the food. Now as a coffee enthusiast, I'll be honest, the only hiccup for me was the coffee selection. It's straight black coffee only. Not a deal breaker, just don't walk in expecting a latte menu. I ordered the pork chop breakfast (and if you're judging pork... respectfully keep scrolling ). It came with grits, toast, and eggs. The pork chop was good, eggs were cooked right, toast hit the spot, and the grits just needed a little salt. Overall? It's not where you go for an aesthetic brunch with edible flowers and $18 pancakes. It's where you go when you want a GOOD breakfast that feels familiar, filling, and real. And honestly, there's something refreshing about that. Would definitely go back. Greenville needs places like this. read more

The staff are cool people and very attentive. My go to is corned beef hash with eggs over easy, side of hasbrowns, upgraded to a pancake and add a cheese biscuit. I am not often in Greenville, but when I found out that the Abrams in town was now closed, I discovered this place from Yelp. It's a predictably good local-owned joint with southern diner ambience. Staff is friendly. I was surprised how busy this place still was after 10am. The staff was great, and although I did have to wait a little for a table and a waitress, it wasn't long at all. I decided to try the fried bologna breakfast plate. It was great. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The bologna was thick and plenty. My coffee cup was kept filled constantly. In fact, even though it took a while to get my order, I had coffee on my table within seconds of sitting down. I also got a cheese biscuit as a side and it was yummy and melty. I only have two critiques. One is seating. I'm a big guy, which is nobody's fault but mine. Much of the seating is older booths, and not very comfortable for someone of my size. The only other issue was since I'm a big grits fan, I was disappointed that these here were very watered down. You could drink them if you had a straw. I will be back here again though. This is a very good breakfast place: very good menu, good service and very affordable prices. The decor is dated as others have said. The coffee was fresh, hot and good. I ate here years ago and it was great. I was recently in the area and had breakfast here. The food tasted like chemicals even the waitress could smell it. Service was aweful she was helping everyone and not following through with anything. One customer ate his entire breakfast before receiving his toast. The place was dirty and poorly run. One waitress did everything as all the rest did nothing. I don't recommend this place now. It's sad it's not like it use to be but I heard it's new owners which explains it. read more

Great classic breakfast spot. The ONLY reason I didn't give 5 stars? There was no real butter for my biscuits and pancakes, only margarine spread. Real butter is made from cream and sometimes has added salt, that is real butter! They made us a nice big breakfast, and it deserved real creamery butter to make it perfect. Aside from my "butter rant", everything else was really good. Nice big pancakes and biscuits. our eggs were cooked perfectly over easy, and the bacon was the best. I came here after our Pastor mentioned them as a prime breakfast spot in Greenville. I am a breakfast and brunch aficionado so my ears perked up and my brain took note when she mentioned this. Day by day, I began to plot my special breakfast at Harvey's. Less than a week later, I ended up making it here for a splurge (aka vegetarian) breakfast. I was hungry but figured the portions would be ample. I asked the waitress whether she recommended the waffle or pancakes. She recommended the waffle so I opted for that. Within a few minutes, the waffle arrived. Nothing special to look at but I could tell it would be good. Note Harvey's waffles are not Beligian style but rather American style but still a really solid, tasty waffle nonetheless. This place has a great down home feel and is full of regular clientele that they treat like family. By the time I finished my waffle, I was stuffed. Best of all this meal was on $2.85!!! A steal by any stretch of the imagination. I decided to tip my waitress a bit extra for her hospitality and could afford to after such an awesome deal. I will definitely be back next time I need a splurge. Note: This place is no frills on the decor front but what they lack in frills they make up for in taste. Establishment is still small & still providing OUTSTANDING down home country/southern cuisine! Trust, the country sausage is to die for! Next time, I'll inquire about purchasing my own stash (seriously). Customer service from the female employee (w/the green shirt) was top notch!!! The female servicing the counter actually failed to acknowledge I even spoke when entering the restaurant, smh. Back to our top notch server. Pretty good country breakfast , I love coming here when visiting family in the area . They do take quite a while to get your food to the table once ordering but that's expected because they are always packed . We had to wait about 5 mins for them to clear a table not a problem at all . I do wish they'd do a deep deep clean on the window seals because they aren't the cleanest & the floors . I would say I wish the cooks wore gloves . Another thing I had a order of grits & it had the longest strand of hair in it & it absolutely turned my appetite off . They offered more but I declined because the grits are kept in a huge pot & I'm sure it was already in the pot & didn't come from our waitress . This is our favorite breakfast joint in town. Been eating here for over 2 decades. If you are looking for good old fashion breakfast, I really recommend this diner. No, it is not a glamorous place. Prices are actually lower now with new ownership. This place has been remodeled inside... Not a drastic change but cleaner, slight modern look without changing its unique landmark character. Fast service with nice efficient staff. The country ham here is THE best!!! Hash brown is buttery, delicious and even better when ordered with onion. A true dive of a breakfast diner, this place has some of the greatest pancakes and sausage I have ever eaten. The coffee is good, if a little weak, and the eggs were cooked perfectly on both my dish and my honey's. The portions are an incredible value for the price and the food was prepared lightning fast and fresh on the grill. I can see why there was a line packing the interior, waiting for a table, when we arrived. If you have to wait, or you're put off by the rough edges and overly casual atmosphere, don't worry about it. So worth it. Try the pancakes and sausage--you won't be sorry. read more

It is a nice breakfast spot. The service was a bit slow during this visit. I kept it simple, ordering a BLT on wheat and hashbrowns with coffee. The sandwich was pretty good, primary compliant mayo was only on one side. The bacon was crispy and delicious. The lettuce and tomato was full and abundant. The coffee was strong and robust. On Sept 20,2018 they received an 86.5 sanitation rating and after one visit you will see why. More about that later. Like other posts explain, it can be very busy on the weekends. Receiving your drink order can take a while but as I pulled out my handy iPhone timer the table beside us received their drinks in less than 3 min. Our server was very nice but had too many tables to provide an acceptable level of service. That's not her fault.......it's the managers fault. The food was no better than anywhere else. If you want your hash browns cooked be sure to ask for them to be prepared extra done. You can tell they are struggling to make it by the cheap condiments they serve. And the napkin dispenser.....it looked like it had never been wiped off. As I was paying I noticed our server putting up Bowls and coffee cups that had been washed. She was picking off the dried food from inside the bowls (that wasn't removed by the dishwasher) with her fingernail prior to putting them on the shelf beside the cook. Speaking of the cook.......the cooking area was a mess. Not messy like "busy" messy. Messy like "cleaned once a day" messy. It was disgusting. Harvey's is a bit of a tradition and staple in Greenville, NC for breakfast and lunch. Located just off the Vidant Medical Center campus, the layout is reminiscent of Waffle House and it indeed may have once been one. There is ample parking. Harvey's is a seat yourself affair and one of the friendly waitresses will soon be by to take your drink order and brief you on the menu. Lots of choices with a mixture of breakfast and more typical lunch items. I ordered the Cheeseburger Steak Omelet with hash browns. The omelet included chopped onion and green and red pepper and what must have been a chunked up quarter pound of ground beef. It was 12 inches long by 4 inches wide and a half inch thick in the middle. I swear to goodness, three adults could share this beast. Nicely seasoned and really good flavor. Then there was the hash brown side which was almost as large as the omelet. Great flavor and a soft exterior crunch but who normally eats this much food on a routine basis?? My wife had the French toast with a side of crispy bacon and scrambled eggs. She loved it! A normal size serving, too. We are going back tomorrow for the waffle and chicken tenders although I hope it is not the entire chicken. read more

Another year....another visit! This time because we were trying to go to another restaurant but it hadn't opened and we knew Harvey's was an excellent go-to. I had to dock a star because we had to wait entirely too long for our food to arrive after placing the order however it was Christmas Eve so.....Now let's discuss my meal, I went for something totally opposite of anything I ever order and ordered an omelet. It wasn't just an omelet though, it was the Oh My Omelet! It is a 3-egg omelet, stuffed with sausage and hashbrowns. And boy was it stuffed! Full and ABUNDANT! When I initially placed my order, the waitress apologized for them not having any link sausage so they would have to use patty sausage...I told her that was fine by me because I prefer patty sausage to link sausage any day. Coffee was definitely subpar...switched to sweet tea, and all was great! Our waitress was awesome and the overall atmosphere was homey and welcoming. read more

I love to support small businesses when I am traveling for work. I was passing this spot daily and had to see why the parking lot was always full. It reminds me of Waffle House the way it is setup. It took a moment for me to be greeted, I had to request a menu. I placed my order but it took about 20 minutes to receive my food. People came in after me and ordered then left before me. I ordered the chicken and waffle breakfast. My chicken was overcooked but I'm giving 3 stars bc the waffle was delicious. I could tell the chicken was seasoned well but it was still burnt. If my chicken wouldn't have been burnt my meal may have been better. I ordered my eggs scrambled, and they were so mealy and over scrambled. The corned beef hash was absolutely disgusting, the meat looked like pink hot dog meat and was squishy and soggy. The hash browns had NO SEASONING WHATSOEVER, no salt, no pepper, and they were so slimy. As I'm finishing my first cup of coffee I realize there is something in my mouth with a phlegm like texture. The ribeyes were paper thin and had no flavor. We never got our toast, which was fine because every time they made toast, the place was filled with the smell of burnt toast. I could see the cook and she definitely was flustered... was not very busy while we were there so do not understand this confusion... after waiting a long time for our food... delivered food to us without utensils (strike 1)... ordered a mushroom and cheese omelette only to receive a pepper and onion omelette... no mushrooms at all (strike 2) my side of bacon looked like a ball of solidified bacon mass ... obviously they threw like 10 pieces of bacon in a deep fryer and it came to me on a plate as a softball sized bacon mass (strike 3) finally my husbands eggs over medium were runny in some areas and hard in others.... Large fluffy pancakes, perfectly cooked eggs and bacon/sausage, fresh brewed tea, yummy hashbrowns, such delicious feast at a reasonable cost! Lived in Greenville all my life and never ate here before but we definately found a new place to go for breakfast. Will have to try them for lunch or dinner too! A great place to get breakfast that is fast, easy, and affordable. It's usually my go to for a great bacon egg and cheese on toast. But when I went today I noticed their sanitation score was a 77 which is pretty disgusting.
