The Breakfast Bar (aka: The Trap House of Deliciousness) Don't let the location fool you. The only danger here is eating way more than you planned. The food is THAT good. Top highlights: * The shrimp and grits? Easily Top 5 of my life, and I've had shrimp and grits in multiple states, brunches, and one questionable wedding. * The fried chicken? Crispy, seasoned, juicy like somebody's grandma is in the back refusing to give up her recipe. * You will absolutely find yourself saying "just one more bite" at least six times. Now, the minor warnings: * The bathrooms are small like "hold your purse, your coat, and your breath" small. * The floor has a little... personality. Let's just say it creaks in a way that makes you think twice about walking too heavy after a plate of chicken and waffles. But hey, character builds charm, right? Service was good. I ordered online and went to pick up my order. They forgot my eggs but after calling they had no problem remaking my order. The only downside is that I requested carside delivery and after calling and waiting no one came. A few workers were occupied outside smoking. The food was ok, nothing to rave about. The Atmosphere Well, if it's your first time, you might be off out by the look of the front of the store. But let me assure, it's all good and there's no worries! The young lady outside greeted us jovially with a smile and directed us indoors. The outside is a nice little covered porch area with plenty of seating and views outside. The inside has a classic hole in the wall diner feel; but the good kind. It was packed with folks having a good time with their families. Me + 3 ate outside. The Nosh I came for breakfast and breakfast did I indeed partake! I ended up getting an omelette with salmon cakes as my protein. It was pretty good! The savory salmon cakes and the velvety eggs with jalapeños and spinach made quite the impression in my mouth. The chicken and waffles were quite good and the waffles were crispy! The toast was nice and crunchy and buttery and thick -- oooh baby! Coffee was nice a strong. Overall, it was a solid breakfast! The Service In a word: excellent. The great reviews brought me to The Breakfast Bar, I had just had to see for myself what the hype was about. I'm visiting from out of town so I was a bit confused on the parking situation, be mindful that there are some signs that will lead you to park in the back of the establishment. Honestly, the area was sketchy, the parking side of The Breakfast Bar gives you the view to some old rail road and some abandoned structures... but let's go in. Ok, walk through the door and it looks neat on the outside, neat set up and there were some folks already finishing up their breakfast, good signs to have people early for some good food. Took a bit to get the server to come around to our table, which btw the tables need to be wiped out often as being outside the accumulate dust. We got our order taken. First, drinks two OJ's... man, I mean, if it's not going to be a fresh squeezed OJ that's fine but I'm gonna need ya'll to spend a bit more and get some good quality OJ.. I almost feel i got served Sunny Delight. The food was good, not here to knock it. My partner got a chicken sandwich which I do gotta give it to you, that chicken was delicious, but my regular breakfast plate was nothing special about it. Oh, also... NAPKINS! Man, i only got one paper roll napkin and that was it! C'mon, help us messy eaters not be so messy. You guys got a good thing going on but certainly can use some upgrades. So many things went wrong so let's start at the beginning. Half of the building looked broken down and abandoned before we finally found the door at the very back. When entering there is no signs or instructions on if it's seat yourself or wait for someone. We finally went to the bar and someone said we can pick and someone will be right over. The water had a weird aftertaste and the silver ware was touching the table which to me is very unsanitary. I ordered the chocolate chip waffles and only received one but the menu said waffles, plural. Half of the table's food came out before the other half and was cold by the time everyone at the table had their food. My mom can't eat eggs and asked for no eggs and still had eggs on her plate touching her other food and never recieved her hash browns until 15 minutes later after she had to ask the waitress. While my dad was trying to count out a tip the waitress stood there silently and watched him count out the tip before taking it off the table. Then they also took our plates off the table while we were ACTIVELY eating, half a bowl of grits that we were working on and some toasted we hadn't finished. me and my wife visited The Breakfast Bar a couple of days ago. The premise is gaudy at best. Here are the basics. It's literally a bar that serves bad breakfast food. Customers were actually taking shots of something at 10 in the morning. My wife couldn't get orange juice with her breakfast because they were using it for cocktails. Vulgar extremely vulgar music playing. Lots of sexual themes in the music. There were children and elderly people in the restaurant at the time. The whole building was dirty, filth and gunk caked up around the entire dining room. The bathrooms were so disgusting I gagged walking into the men's room. Then we come to the food. It was terribl. The waffle was made of some weird flour. My wife's shrimp and grits were swimming in a pool of oil and grease. And the best part, hair in my French toast that was burnt and soggy at the same time. We ended up only eating a bite of each item. Once I found the hair we left. We weren't seeking a free meal and taking a single bite out of our food items doesn't equal to be a free meal. The manager didn't even come to see what was wrong. Overall one of if not THE WORST experiences I've ever had at a dining establishment. My biggest regret is not taking photos. Tried this for the first time after my mom tried them. Firstly wanted to do a to go order. No one answered the phone. After 6 calls I just decided to ride up since it was only a few minutes away. Greeted and placed our orders. Which then began the long 45 min wait. Honestly I think they didn't see our order in the back. But i received a text saying my food was ready which would've been very convenient if the food was actually ready then. It was 20 more minutes before it was. Then it came out in separate bags, despite being on the same ticket. No apology for the wait, no offer to comp, not even an offer of water after waiting almost an hour for our food. But all of that would be understandable if the prices matched the menu. Also: my waffle was not at all crispy like the description. Hope they get better because food is good. Come and check this place out, and don't let the outside fool you. Situated on the west side of Greenville just off of 5th street near the Frat and sorority houses lies a small restaurant with big potential. In an effort to support local businesses, I have only just recently learned of this place and have to say we will be back. It's called The Breakfast Bar, and for a small restaurant, they have big plans for growth. My daughter and I both had the #8 with scrambled eggs and French Toast. The toast was just as we like it, cinnamon with a hint of vanilla. The omelette looked delicious so will probably go that way next time. The only drawback was there were no cheese biscuits to try. When I moved from Jersey to North Carolina, I ended up having to stay at the Residence Inn in Greenville, which is an hour away from the house I'm moving into. Long story short, the first day I was at the hotel, I decided to get some breakfast at a local restaurant classically called the Breakfast Bar. Man, was I not disappointed at all. The mimosa I ordered also had tequila in it, which was delicious, and since I never had shrimp with grits before, I figured i order that as well. Wow. That s*** was absolutely delicious! It contained sweet and spicy creaminess that just melted in your mouth, accompanied by the most tender shrimp I've tasted in a while and the crispiest yet softest garlic toast. On top of the amazing food, the servers were also very friendly and frequently asked me if everything is okay. If I had but one teeny tiny complaint it was that the food took a little bit too long to come out, but it's a minor complaint because you can tell they made that s*** with love. The fact that you're right there while they cook it is also a pleasant sight, as all the cooks were masked up and dealing with multiple orders at one time. We were told our table still wasn't ready so they moved us to a different waiting area on the porch.They apologized and offered a discount on our meal. We waited another 10 minutes. We were given a drink menu, but no one ever came to take our drink order. Finally, we got a table ,ordered our meal, drinks and appetizer. Appetizer came in 5 minutes. We ate it with no drinks. We asked about our drinks again. Finally got them in styrofoam cups. Everyone else had the glass mason jars. We waited 40 more minutes. Still hadn't received our meal. We asked our waitress, Ashley, she said there were 2 big tables in front of us and would be at least 15 more minutes. We decided to leave as we now had been there over an hour. We paid for our appetizer without a discount and left. Hungry. So sad we didn't get to experience the good food that was described in the earlier reviews. read more
