First time at Sheps grill. It was recommended by my father-in-law who frequents the restaurant. I came for lunch on a Sunday around two hours before closing time. I was told they were out of brisket and catfish. Both of which I was planning to order so I was a bit disappointed. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich with hot honey, and tater tots as aside. This is a real hometown gem! We've eaten here three times so far, and everything has been delicious. We've had: corned beef hash & eggs, their cheese biscuits are to die for, the "Full Nelson" breakfast bowl with cheese grits, home fries, and house smoked bologna. With the first bite I took of their southwestern eggs Benedict I couldn't help uttering "oh my gosh." Pulled pork, hollandaise and a perfectly cooked poached egg... Scrumptious. My parents come here A LOT, so when we came to visit, they took us here. I can see why they come here so frequently - great variety of food at a great price point. I got the BLT and it was yummy! It came with lots of bacon, and you can't go wrong with bacon. They are not open all day, and they do run out of things (my husband wanted to try the brisket, but they had run out of it by the time we got there). Our server, Marissa was just fantastic. My parents knew her by name, and she gets to be their server each time. It's always a good time when you get good food at a great price! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome from the owner who was washing the dishes. No job is too small for Shep who wears many hats in the kitchen. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the place was extremely clean. We were thrilled to try the burnt ends which we had been craving since we heard about this place the week prior. After a taste of their famous burnt ends, my husband had the half rack of ribs and they were cooked to perfection. This came with two side sides, and they have the best coleslaw! I had the three egg vegetable omelette with the freshest vegetables, which seemed to come directly from farm to table. After we ate, we took a stroll around the corner to go visit the boardwalk, it was a beautiful day! We're looking forward to our next visit with friends and family. read more

The rave reviews brought me to Shep's Grill for lunch as I thought it'd be similar to the diners I'd been recently. I was greeted when I arrived and told there was seating in the back room. I did notice the health score which was lower than I usually go. The staff is friendly and remembers the regulars and their drink orders. They are even given the breakfast and lunch menu when everyone else just gets the lunch menu. The restaurant has a casual vibe and the decor is basic. I ordered the catfish nuggets as I hadn't seen that anywhere else before. The sides were not listed on the menu so the waitress had to go through a list of them. I just went with the fries. The nuggets were a little too greasy for my liking. The food was ok but nothing I'd return again for. read more

We love Shep's for a quick breakfast or lunch in town. The menu is expansive so there are options for everyone and food comes out quickly and in huge portions. Service can be a little uneven, depending on who you get waiting on you but everyone seems to look out for each other so it's not a huge issue. The owner is friendly as can be and we love his commitment to the community. Shep's should be on everyone's list for food stops when in Washington. read more

What a fantastic little hometown place that everybody wishes they had in their neighborhood. With breakfast and lunch choices that are abundant and cooked to order, you will appreciate the quaint & casual environment and the excellent food and great family style atmosphere. One of my favorites is the vanilla cinnamon French toast and the cheese grits. I've also enjoyed the smoked brisket on Thursdays and I've had the opportunity to have a BLT at lunch as well as their cheeseburgers and tater tots. We love this dinner for its quality food and amazing people. On our way to Virgina Beach, we swing by just right before they close (by noon - 1pm). So make sure you call before arrival to see if they still open. Dont look at their hour. Food are great and good portion. They cook right in front of us. The bacon pancake is very interesting. Came in for breakfast today. First time in quite a while and it will be another long time before I do it again. The service was great but it really makes you wonder how clean they are when you see someone else's lipstick on your mug. It doesn't take much from the dishwasher to use a scrubbing pad to go around the rim before pushing it through the dish washer/sanitizer. I know because I used to do it. Yes, you could blame the server as well for the lack of attention to detail but I'm not going to do that. Other than that breakfast was good. Shep's Grill is a lovely little downtown spot! The service was great. We got our food in a timely manner. Portions are large so well worth the money. Food was tasty and they had plenty of options for all. It's currently COVID and waitresses were wearing mask and wiping down menus. They had hand sanitizers at the front register as well. The biscuits are definitely a must try, they're fluffy like a roll but taste just like a biscuit. The food is as good as my pictures look! Only recommendation I would make is have the cooks/chefs wear facial hair mask. I was nervous I was going to have a chin hair in my food. read more

Our first experience here was decent, we really enjoyed the blueberry pancakes, and there aren't many options for breakfast in Washington... but after three more tries, we'll never be back. Each time we've visited the service and food have been a little worse than the last time. It was never "clean" but our last visit was disgusting, the floors, chairs, and tables were sticky and clearly hadn't been cleaned in some time. She also waited until we'd been seated for almost 15 minutes and she came back to take our orders to let us know they were out of biscuits and sausage... at 9:30am on a Tuesday, how does a breakfast place run out of those? Three of our group then had to choose something else to eat so she left and we didn't see her again for about 20 minutes. Even more irritating, a different waitress told the table behind us while our waitress was missing that they did have sausage and two at that table were served it without issue. We asked for a new salt shaker because both on our table were clogged and our waitress returned several minutes later with individual salt packets telling us "they're all like that". The french toast was dry and had an off, almost sour taste, and the blueberry pancakes were decidedly smaller than when we'd ordered them before. Once we'd finished eating we waited a while and finally had to go up front to pay as she'd disappeared again. read more

We came in for lunch while visiting town and stumbled upon this place. From the outside it doesn't look like much but walk in the door and you are surprised. The staff is so friendly and welcoming! The food is beyond wonderful!! We got the loaded tots (pictured) and the portion was huge! We also ordered the brisket Philly with a side of slaw and cabbage. Everything was AMAZING! we love about 2 hours from here and will travel back for the food and amazing staff! I can't say enough good things about this place. Don't let the outside fool you. This little dive was recommended by a few locals so we stopped in for a quick lunch. It looked like it needed some cleaning and freshening up but we decided to give it a try. My husband had the smoked bologna sandwich with fried okra and pasta salad. He enjoyed the sandwich and okra but found the pasta salad underwhelming (come on what did you expect it's pasta salad) I had a hot dog and was glad to see they offered kraut as a topping! We had a great experience at Shep's! This was our first trip to Washington and this diner caught our eye. The servers were welcoming and there was a lot of fun banter between the staff and customers. We sat at the counter and had a birdis-eye view of what was going on - all good! I ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits - the gravy was seasoned correctly (to my taste!) with a great peppery finish. My husband had the omelette with all the veggies. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food and experience. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good breakfast spot. We will return when we return to Washington! read more

I have been seeing many delicious posts about their food that we had to come try it out. This is the 3rd time I have come (first time I did not realize they closed after lunch, second time there was some construction on the street and they had to close for something to do with that). First let me say that all those delicious pictures and videos are mostly their daily weekday specials so they were not available on the weekend. They still were able to fix me some seafood tacos and Alfred couldn't get the brisket and macaroni and cheese but he did get a delicious brisket Philly cheesesteak. Our food was wonderful and our waitress Leah was very helpful and wore a mask. For those of you that are concerned about it, only about half the staff had masks on their face (some had them below their chin and others didn't have them at all).
