Project: 12 x 20 deck build.
Cost Quote: $19,100.25
The Haseltine Builders website states the following:
"Open Consistent communication."
- Communication was to lacking at best. Both between Haseltine and myself / and the Haseltine crew and office.
"Crew Lead assigned to your project from start to finish."
"Each customer meets the crew lead at the start of their project to know who will be there every step of the way."
- I was never introduced to project crew lead. Never was kept informed of schedule or progress of project.
"The company offers Attention To Detail on any project."
- Attention To Detail was no existent.
Review:
The initial meeting with Nick went fine. The $19,100.25 cost seemed high to me but, upon reading the claims on their website, I decided to give Haseltine Builders a try. Once Haseltine had my deposit of $13,775.25 (100% of material & 25% of labor) things seemed to change.
The build was supposed to take approx. 1 week. The "original" build did take about that, however, I was never informed that Haseltine had "completed" the deck build and regarded it as such. I subsequently received an invoice (which happened to be incorrect). I was never asked to do a walk-thru for my approval of build "completion".
Upon inspection the "completed" deck, I raised concerns about the quality of the work. The wrong railings were installed, the stair build was horrible (nothing was level, all measurements were different, all cuts were terrible). These were just the main issues. The more I looked, the more I found. The original deck build was horrible and trying to fix it was like putting lipstick on a pig.
I had Nick Haseltine come out to walk through the construction issue. Nick did agree with every issue that was pointed out to him. I still think these issues should not have had to be pointed out by me. These issues were apparent and should have been identified & addressed by Haseltine before they considered the build complete. In any case, Nick asked me to give him a chance to make right, which I did. He had another crew come out to try and fix all the issues with the stairs (among other things). They tried to do so but the original stair build, (which they tried to pass off as complete), was so bad they decided to demolish the "original" stairs and rebuild them from scratch.
Nick did try to make it right but never inspected the quality of the work which led to me having to keep point out the poor quality workmanship. (which led to more corrections). I believe someone from Haseltine should have been checking the quality of work, making sure it was up to the "attention to detail" they claim to have.
I was very accommodating to Haseltine Builders. I supplied a portable bathroom (at my expense) for his workers on the first build. I left out a cooler with water for his workers (days were hot) during the second build. I got very frustrated but was always cordial to Haseltine Builders and their employees.
I could go on and on about the issues on this project. I never have received an apology from anyone at Haseltine Builders for my time & inconvenience in dealing with all the horrible build issues and shoddy workmanship. A one week deck build ended up being almost 2 months of frustration. I finally got fed up with having Haseltine come back out to "fix" the issues because every time they would say they were complete, inspection of the "completed" work resulted in more issues.
I was not going to write a review, however, I decided to do so. I felt the need to warn any of you thinking about hiring Haseltine Builders.
At this point, I would not hire Haseltine builders to build a sandbox for me, if I needed one.
IF YOU READ THIS REVIEW AND STILL DECIDE TO HIRE HASELTINE BUILDERS FOR YOUR PROJECY(S), BE AWARE.
