Food was . The tots were little bit overcooked, the mash potatoes were super garlicky so is the gravy on the chicken steak. Service was slow but maybe because they were closing in 45 min. Nothing special.

Greatest Real Authentic Mexican Breakfast you ever have: chorizo, scrambled eggs with onions & tomatoes, fried potatoes, fresh flour tortilla, coffee. I've eaten here 25 years and it breaks my heart it's closed now. Please post if you know how to tell where Lupe and Miguel is. I'd appreciate it. Thank you Cathy

Very satisfied with the overall service and quality of food at Hashes and Brews! Arrived around brunch time on a Sunday during Valentine's weekend and was seated right away. Food and drinks arrived quickly and the overall presentation of everything made the food extra appealing. Also should note that their orange juice is freshly juiced and I'm a sucker for fresh OJ!! I did drive quite a while out to get here but will come back again when I'm in the area

Great spot if you're in the mood for classic American food and a chill spot to watch a big game. Came here after the gym to watch the World Series on a Saturday and it was pretty slow. Service was super quick and friendly. We ordered sweet potato fries to share, which I would prefer to be served a little hotter, but were still solid. The chipotle sauce on the side was a decent pairing as well. I appreciated that they had healthy entree choices. I opted for the broiled chicken breast and my sister got the skirt steak with veggies. The broiled chicken was super juicy and flavorful, and the lemon was a great touch to squeeze on top. My sister also really enjoyed her skirt steak, but said the vegetables could have used some seasoning. Overall a solid spot and will definitely be back!

Great looking place with ample seating. Lots of natural lighting and a great environment to have a group conversation! Service is quick and very attentive! The food was super solid! Had the crab cake benedict! It was awesome! The crab cake itself was a little sweet for my taste, but was really tasty! The hollandaise sauce was good and rich and the poached egg was done to perfection! Comes with country potatoes that has bell peppers and onions and seasoned just right! The coffee was endless! Can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu! Ya gotta go get you some!

First time trying this place. I had the chorizo scrambled & it was so flavorful & cooked just right. The french toast was also really good. We came on a weekday morning, so it wasn't busy. Parking was very easy. The servers were also very nice & attentive. Pretty good american brunch for me.

Playing catch up with my reviews. Had an early lunch here several months ago. I keep forgetting about H&B even though I am at this shopping center 3-4 times a week. I'll cut to the chase. Had the Chicken Philly and it was really good. I had craving a chicken sandwich and that one fit the bill. Add to the skinny fries and I was very satsified. And now let's go the pic.

Cozy brunch spot! The staff was very attentive and food came out in a reasonable time. Got the PB&J Cereal Cocktail because it piqued our interest. The presentation was cute but the drink was an acquired taste for sure. The jelly didn't mix with the rest of the drink so each sip you essentially taste the cereal milk first, then the vodka, then a jelly aftertaste. It was a cool experience to try but will probably not get this drink again casually. The reuben sandwich + fries was one of the best reubens I've had! Perfectly toasted and the marbling on the bread made it look aesthetic too. Fries nice and crispy. Would return as their entrees are very delish!

This place is definitely not fancy, but it has an interesting menu, especially for breakfast offerings. The portions are very generous, so much so that if we go again, we would certainly order one breakfast entree and split it, with perhaps adding a side. It would be plenty of food! We were searching for a place to have a meal with Adored Grandson and Bonus Granddaughter (his GF) before we left their area. They suggested this place and it's very convenient to their apartment. Lots of free parking in the center is a plus; always a plus in the Bay Area! We sat outside on the patio, even though it was on the cool side that morning. They brought their dog with them, so patio seating it was. I only saw the interior of the restaurant when I went in to use the restroom. Our server took good care of us. Even though we were the only party on the patio, she made sure to check on us as the meal progressed. Dear Hubby had one of the corn beef hash meals, with lots of food to make his way through. I sampled the hash and it had good taste, and plentiful meat, not just heavy on the potatoes. I love French toast, but had just had some the day before, so I went for club sandwich on sourdough toast. It was fresh and piled high with good ingredients. The tomatoes were especially good. BG's Belgian waffle looked really good. She got full only half way through it, and offered her strawberries and banana pieces that she hadn't touched to the rest of us if we wanted them. Also very fresh; especially the banana. We had it confirmed on our little vacation driving trip up to Sacramento / Davis, Nevada City, and San Francisco that there is no such thing as cheap eats anymore. What there are would be large portions at many restaurants, so they might be charging $18 for a meal like a sandwich, or breakfast entree, but it's usually enough for DH and I to split a plate. Otherwise, it's a situation to eat half a meal at the time, and take half home for a second serving later. Getting out of a restaurant for under $60 for the two of us is getting harder and harder. Our budget is under great strain in that way, so eating out will be more of a treat and less of a regular thing. When you're traveling, you've go to just do it. Hashes & Brews offers a decent value proposition when you consider the size of the meals.

Our food, nothing was worth it or merits a return visit.

I wanted to like and return to this establishment, but sadly I will not, I don't recommended either. Food: 1/2 star: we ordered 5 plates, all were mediocre at best, the food was not hot and the coffee was too bitter, I'm not a avid coffee drinker, but I know what coffee should taste like and this coffee was bad!. The h&b potatoes were sweet not salty, I found this strange and asked our server, but she didn't know what to say. I asked for hash browns to replace them, but they were very dry and extremely over done. I ordered the steak Benedict's, which were supposed to be with skirt steak, but they weren't. It was a cheap cut and it was tough & dry, the hollandaise sauce was just ok. The chorizo scramble was not seasoned and again the potatoes were sweet. The banana foster French toast was not flambé, the banana was not cooked, the server forgot the caramel and a side order of sausage. The other dishes were sad as well. Service: 1 star: we sat outside because we had our pups, so we waited a long time for coffee refills, but since the coffee was awful I was ok with not getting more, but the service lacked attention. I do have to say that on a positive note the first staff member that greeted us and prep out table was extremely helpful and it was appreciated. Ambiance: 1/2 star: the inside was cozy and clean.

    Creamed spinach Benedict

Grateful Hashes and Brews was open for thanksgiving brunch. I ordered the creamed spinach Benedict and my partner ordered the chicken Alfredo omelette. The environment was bright and open, we were seated within 5mins. Our coffee and sodas ere brought to our table immediately. The creamed spinach Benedict was alright. It was served with house potatoes. My meal could have been hotter, as it was served at room temperature. As I dug my fork into the poached egg, a large amount of water poured over the rest of my meal, which was not expected and strange. I understand the poaching process of an egg, so it's not weird that water had come out of it, but in my lifetime of countless Benedict orders, I've never had such a large amount of water spill out of a poached egg when cutting into it with my fork. The Benedict itself had a sour taste which I wasn't too fond of. I noticed later in the artichokes in the meal, so it made sense. I tasted my partner's Alfredo omelette and his meal was pretty good, however he described the chicken as a bit dry in the beginning but as he got to the center, he enjoyed his meal a bit more. The staff were attentive and friendly. I did notice that someone bussing tables, holding a bin for dirty dishes that were being cleared was the person bringing up refills so I wasn't confident in the cleanliness of this process. Our experience was an okay one.

    Chicken Philly hot sandwich
    Deon S.

Greetings to all , today's review is on the Chicken Philly cheese sandwich here at Hashes & Brews: The setting in this restaurant is very comfortable with dimly lit areas of the restaurant to accommodate the Bar sides of the establishment, there is enough seating for a party of 20 or more when calling ahead. The server that we had was very friendly and on point with all of our dishes which made for an excellent food experience;but this review is for the Chicken Philly hot sandwich. The sandwich itself was a nice size, but it was served with the meat wormer than the toasted (bun - a little dense) that it was served on, this made for an uneven bite for me. The fries served with it were not hot but worm as well. This place has he right recipe for goodness, so I will continue to come back trying the numerous dishes listed in their menus; today's dish is 3 stars for me; with room for improvement.

Gravy 85 percent garlic not good with rubbery Chicken Fried Steak
    Alex P.

Checked out Hashes and Brews for brunch this morning. The parking lot was not full found parking easily. However, the food and coffee were not great. I went with my family and I had a spoon full of each of their dishes. Off the bat the country chicken fried steak was rubbery. The gravy tasted like they cooked it in garlic. I like garlic but that gravy can kill Dracula. I also tried the chicken and waffles also came with rubbery overcooked chicken. But the worst thing I had at hashes and brews was their coffee. One of the worst cup of coffee I have ever had. It tasted like chalk so bitter it was pure torture drinking it. The service was ok not enough smiles but a lot of "I don't want be here" attitude from the staff. The ambience it felt crowded not with people but with tables and chairs. It was like they crammed tables and chairs together so close to one another that I can stretch my arm out and hit another customer in the face . I think this place thinks that an army of people will come in all at once and ask for bad coffee and rubbery chicken. Never coming back there again I'm surprised it's been open for this long.

Only hiccup was asking for pepper jack and getting blue cheese instead, but the bar was super apologetic and comped us a free beer for the mix-up. Shoutout to them for that. There is a free well-maintained parking lot on the side and back of the casino, and it was easy to find a parking spot. I also saw a free shuttle bus taking people to/from the San Bruno BART station. There is only one restaurant which serves both American food (helmed by an American chef) and Chinese food (helmed by a Chinese chef). There is a direct entrance to the restaurant on San Mateo Ave, although you can walk through the casino from the main entrance to the back right area labeled "Bar". You order & pay at the counter and find a table and they will bring out the food to you on a cart when it is ready. There were plenty of tables on a Sunday evening ~6pm. All items already have tax included. They also have 4 different types of cakes (chocolate, carrot, tres leches, etc) and other desserts you can purchase. You get your own free water by the bar area of the restaurant. No need to bus your own table; there is a busboy who occasionally walks around cleaning up the plates and wiping down tables. Within the context of everyday no-frills cuisine, I would rate the food a 3.5/5. NY steak $28 - there was a nice grilled flavor and it was cooked perfectly medium but the meat itself was a little tough/chewy (which is why I prefer other cuts, but I can't be too picky here). It came with decently flavored mashed potatoes & gravy and a good-sized portion of sauteed vegetables. Chicken Parmesan $19. Generous portion. Came with fettuccine with tomato / marinara sauce. The sauce was a little too sour for my liking, and the chicken itself was a little dry. Shrimp with lobster sauce $22. Sauce doesn't actually have lobster (it's more of a thick Chinese black bean sauce with bits of minced pork, sauteed onions, and bell peppers). It's served over white rice. It was surprisingly hearty. I liked how there was enough sauce to coat each spoonful of rice. I personally would not return because I don't have a reason to gamble here and I don't like getting carded when entering (which I guess you could consider a compliment), but if you did spend the day here at the tables, the restaurant isn't a bad choice to have lunch/dinner.
