Tempura here is the best, great crunch. Chicken teriyaki is always juicy. Decent fish and salad dressing yummy. Service is acceptable, decorations are nice. Only downside is menu is on an iPad, so literally have to wait for each person to decide and pass it around. Would be nice if they had paper menus

Came here during lunch time and from the moment we walked in we were greeted very kindly and was seated right away. Customer service was spot on. Definitely felt welcomed and well attended to. The place was clean and had enough space for a large crowd. We ordered the Omakase, dragon roll and a bento box. Their Omakase came with a variety of fresh fish, but not all of it was like OMG so good, like how I have eaten Omakase at other sushi places in the past. I would say 80% of their Omakase was really good and the rest tasted just like a regular nigiri. However, it isn't a deal breaker. I did like how their Omakase came with real wasabi. Their dragon roll didn't have imitation crab inside which is what I am used to, so because of that, I won't be ordering dragon roll from this place anymore. I didn't eat the bento box, so I can't comment on that. I am down to come back and try other menu items.

Exceptionally awful food. Even the miso soup was so bad I didn't want to finish it. Somehow they made California rolls taste bad. How do you even manage that? Food took over 20 minutes. Very long wait while the people who came in later than us got their food first. I don't even know what else to say. At a certain point it went from being frustrating to amusing. I am baffled at the way every single thing at this restaurant was just epically terrible. It looks good but would be better used for decoration.

Came here with a bestie for lunch since this is his local go-to spot. Sushi was fresh, flavorful, and really well done. Service was fast without feeling rushed, the place was clean, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. Everything came out looking great and tasting good. The roll with mango on top was easily my favorite. A great neighborhood sushi spot that delivers on quality and consistency. Will absolutely come back.

Hashi Gawa has definitely gained popularity, as even on a weekday it was crowded and there was a wait... Unfortunately I think with the rise in popularity, the service has gone down. While it is a very busy spot, it's quite hard to get tea refilled. We ordered appetizers, 2 omakases, and rolls... and we got the rolls toward the end after we finished our omakase and were sitting. It was a very long dinner as food was not prepared timely. I did not like their takoyaki either. I don't see myself coming back anymore as the quality as gone down.

If you're looking for fresh, high-quality sushi in Alameda, Hashi Gawa is a hidden gem worth visiting. Located in the Bridgeside Shopping Center, this cozy Japanese spot offers an impressive menu featuring traditional favorites and creative rolls. The omakase experience is a standout, with perfectly marinated rice and beautifully plated nigiri that rivals top-tier sushi bars. Signature dishes like the Hashi Gawa Roll and Kaisen Don are packed with flavor and artful presentation. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff is attentive, making every visit feel special. A nice touch? Portions are generous, and while prices lean toward the higher side, the quality justifies the cost. Reservations are recommended as it can get busy, but the sushi bar usually has a few seats open for walk-ins. However, I sent on a Saturday and was able to get a table right away. Whether you're craving classic nigiri, inventive specialty rolls, or vegan options, Hashi Gawa delivers a memorable dining experience in Alameda.

We got seated immediately and service was so snappy friendly and great! My friends have been here before, but my first time. Really enjoyed everything we had, oysters, uni, a couple rolls, hamachi carpaccio. Rick hooked us up and was really fun and friendly! Highly recommend this spot.

I've heard of Hashi Gawa but never has the opportunity to dine here since we had our favorites in Alameda. But we made it a point to dine here after hearing good things and that they had an omakase nigiri on the menu. It is located opposite Nob Hill in the Bridgeside Shopping Center and parking was not an issue. Arriving at 5:20, we had our choice of tables as we were the first patrons of the evening. Our waiter welcomed us and gave us an iPad which had the digital menu. He also placed a today's specials board on our table as well. Since we had looked at the menu on Yelp, we knew what we were going to order. We started with a Hamachi Kama as a starter. It was a medium sized kama topped with bonito flakes. It was a nice tasty starter. I had the Hashi Kaisen Don. It was their take on a Chirashi Bowl that was served on a wood plank. There were six types of good-sized pieces of fish, a shrimp and fish roe on a shiso leaf on top a bed of seasoned rice with a little ladle of fresh wasabi. This was so delicious! My W enjoys nigiris especially omakase nigiris. Our other regular place in town doesn't offer this on their menu. The ten pieces came out on a long wooden board. The fish on each nigiri was a nice sized slice with just the right sized rice ball. The W loved it. For dessert, we ordered a crepe cake and they put a candle on it for the W's Bday and they play a birthday tune on their AV and staff sang happy bday. We enjoyed the food, which was fresh and tasty and the staff was friendly. This is not a high-end restaurant, but a nice casual neighborhood restaurant serving delicious food. Will be coming back here again.

This is probably one of my favorite sushi places in the East Bay and i've been coming back here many times and loved it everytime. I love their rolls and the Hashi Gawa. For the rolls, I often to go with Double Toro, Mango Devil and Snow White Crunch. Hashi Gawa Don is one my favorites. It's like decomposed chirashi bowl. Another one that I would recommend is the 10 piece omakase. In the bay area, in this days, you would not see an omakase deal this cheap. Their fish is super fresh and high quality. Usually during the weekday, you can call in to make a reservation. I would recommend you do so because it does get super busy around dinner time. Because the space is not super big, so there may be a bit of a wake around dinner time.

Visiting from out of town and found this restaurant on yelp. I was craving sushi and sashimi. The food was amazing and fresh. Really good portion sizes. Service was great, had good conversation with one of my servers. The restaurant was a bit small so get there early so you can get a seat. I will definitely head back there during my next visit.

Live near by and wanted to try it out. It was a busy Saturday evening, and despite some empty tables it took a bit to be seated, perhaps to let the kitchen catch up due to pick-up, delivery orders. When seated was provided a iPad with the menu, and I asked if I ordered there. You just have it as a digital menu and order with a waiter. Tried a number of signature rolls: sparkling rainbow, fried and with fire at the center. Salmon lover and park street rolls. All delicious, fave was Park Street rolls. Desserts were not too sweet, soft and delicious, recommend! Was busy, had colorful artworks/wallpaper, and was served quickly, as well as checked in with periodically.

Great Japanese restaurant in Alameda. It gets busy and attracts a crowd -- good food usually does. The Omakase looks inviting. I'll have to try that next time.

Ask the Community - Hashi Gawa

Do they use real crab or that awful "krab" substitute?

Unless you specifically ask for real crab, they will use immigration crab. I know, very annoying!

How many pieces come in each roll?

Each roll comes w/ 8 pieces.

Do they take reservations? I've called but no one answers the phone.

Yes they do. Try calling them again!

What do you have for vegans?

They have a "vegan rolls" section on their menu. So far Ive had the eggplant/ asparagus roll and the veggie bomb. Both are excellent.

We stopped in for dinner with some out-of-town family during the Christmas holiday, and the whole experience was utterly delightful. The staff were warm and welcoming, the ambiance was pleasant, and (most importantly) the food was EXCELLENT. I neglected to get pics of everything we ordered, but my Tofu Don (teriyaki tofu with ground pork and eggs over rice) was incredibly tasty - the perfect "comfort food" for a cold rainy evening. I can't say enough about how lovely and kind the staff were. They went way beyond simply taking our order and serving our food - rather, they made us feel like family, treated us to dessert, and even sent us home with a small bottle of sake as a thank you for dining with them. This place is new and probably a bit under the radar at the moment, but it really deserves to become one of the must-try joints in Alameda. Check it out ASAP!

Once you walk into the restaurant, there's indoor and outdoor seating available. The outdoor seating is covered by a patio, and on colder days, I'm assuming they will put a heater out there? I'm not too sure, since I don't actually eat outside often. Indoor is well lit up, and has a decent amount of seating. The biggest table I have seen seats around 6 people, but can be more if you have small children I suppose. We mostly order the rolls here, and to be fair, it's a decent pricing. However, it is a hit or miss. 1. Lion King - Decent. Taste all the same everywhere you go if you ask me. 2. Deep Fried Spicy Tuna - Must have, definitely my favorite. 3. Golden Gate - More on the saucy side with imitation crab meat, it's basic. 4. Dragon Roll - Again, same anywhere you go. 5. Double Salmon Roll - Salmon on the inside, salmon on the outside. Cheaper alternative than to just getting nigiri or salmon sashimi. The customer service here is not the best in my opinion. The first time we took a friend there for his birthday, and it was terrible. The host, waiter/server, and manager disregarded us. However, a table next to us got the friendliest treatment. The type of treatment you give when you expect them to come back so you can address them by their name. The second time we've been here, the customer service was basic. No expectations, just take your order, serve, and a simple question of how is everything. Honestly, customer service could have been much more reasonable at even the most basic level. Overall, the food is ok. I wouldn't say it's like the best, but if you're here for lunch or a quick bite, it's fine.
