Decided to try something more basic and got a three-item bento box for lunch. I usually prefer fusion rolls and nigiri, but wanted to mix it up. The bento box consisted of the following (alongside the salad, soup, and rice): - California roll: not the best ever, but not bad - Chicken teriyaki: I never order this at restaurants, so it was kind of fun to try - Gyoza: the gyoza was fine, but the sauce was not gyoza sauce. It was super sweet. The service is always good and the staff is always very nice.

Finally got to try out Sushi Broadway. I used to come here for many years when Kamakura was here. For the non-Alamedans, and tech bro transplants, Kamakura was pretty much an institution in Alameda that was here for decades, and had a very loyal following. The owner was a sweet lady who was ever-present at the restaurant, even at a very advanced age. I think Kamakura was actually one of the first restaurants I experienced when I came to the U.S. as a child, and certainly the first time I tried Japanese food, which remains one of my very favorite cuisines. After Kamakura closed, the place sat vacant so long (thank you, ridiculous Alameda real estate prices and permitting requirements), that I was beginning to wonder if this location would ever be brought back to life again. Then, at last, a new sushi establishment called Sushi Broadway opened. I have no idea if there is any relation whatsoever to the former Kamakura. The interior has been extensively renovated; it looks brand new and still has a hint of that fresh-paint smell. On a Sunday evening, the dining room was more than half-occupied, which is a good sign. We perused the menu, and settled on the Saba Shioyaki (grilled mackerel) entree, and the Double Sake Roll to share. The saba also comes with soup and salad, so it was more than enough for a full meal for the two of us. Prices for rolls and entrees are totally reasonable, but if you want straight sashimi, it is pricier, and I've noticed sashimi has gone up in price everywhere, so certainly not limited to here. And that's ok; would you want to roll the dice with cheap raw fish? I think not. Service was very nice and hospitable. Attentive but not overbearing. We were never rushed, which I appreciate. After our meal, we received a complementary pour of plum wine, which was nice, and Kamakura used to have this tradition of hospitality as well. We will return, and I'll probably have more to add after our next visit.

Came here with friends to celebrate my birthday and free street parking was easy to find. Walked into the restaurant and it is bright, clean and cheerful! I used to go to the previous restaurant that was here, Kamakura for many years and this new restaurant is entirely different, spacious and open. We ordered tempura appetizer and we each had a bento box. I had the salmon and tuna sashimi and beef teriyaki! Delish! And the nice touch was when the servers brought us a green tea ice cream and tempura fried bananas for my birthday! What a delight.

My favorite place in alameda I've been trying every sushi place in alameda one by one and this hands down has the best miso soup! So delicious, fire cracker balls are superb! 6/5! Chefs are so welcoming as well at the bar!

My second time at Broadway Sushi. Love the updated decor from when it used to be Kamakura. A manageable variety of sushi rolls; appetizers and Japanese dishes to choose. The rolls are beautiful and generous. They packed up my leftovers beautifully! Loved the Ichiban roll, tempura portobello, sashimi starter and oyako don. Quality and ambience are why I love Sushi Broadway!

Arrived around 4pm today (Saturday) and it was empty which was both great and worrisome (I hadn't checked the reviews prior so I wasn't sure about the place, it was a surprise on the spot drop in) We were seated immediately and given menus, offered water, and given some time to choose what we'd like. My husband started off with a beer and I asked for a Diet Coke. We skipped the appetizers as we just wanted something small. Quick note - this place is FREEZING. We came on a super cold day as it was and were looking forward to some slight warmth indoors but we were uncomfortable the whole meal and rushed through to get out because of how cold it was. Food : We ordered the "Bay" roll, Lion King, and Spicy Dragon Roll. As a non - sushi lover, my ratings probably won't be much appreciated. I'll include my husband (the sushi enthusiast) thoughts below. Bay roll: 6/10(I personally didn't try this one) had a harsh minty taste. Not to his liking. Lion King: 9/10 (I personally give this one a 10/10) I loved the cook on the salmon on the crab to salmon ratio was perfect. Spicy dragon roll: 10/10 his favorite, I'd give it a 6/10. A LOT of avocado if you're an avocado lover. It's both inside the roll and topped with it. The spicy sauce however, is amazing. The older gentlemen who we believe was the owner was so friendly and made the experience great (our waiter was also amazing and attentive) the owner brought us our bill at the end along with a delicious shot which was dangerously good lol. We'd love to return. Ambiance and service was amazing. I'll try a dinner plate next time and steer away from the sushi, just wanted to give it a shot today. I'll update once I try more of their menu options!

Sushi Broadway opened recently in the long vacant space where Kamakura was. Infrastructure similiar with all new decor, fixtures, seating. Greeted courteously, promptly. Ordered. Food came within 10-15 minutes. Few patrons at lunch. Offerings (Japanese): appetizers, lunch specials, nigiri, sashimi & sushi, specialties, donburri & udon, Lunch/sushi/sashimi combos, booze.. Bites: 2 item lunch combo (18) -salad: iceberg lettuce, carrot shreds, white dressing. Tasty as usual -rice not firm. Fluffy short grain the usual. Good. -miso soup tasted sweet. Sometimes it is cuz: Instant mix contains sake or some mirin 2) has higher ratio of koji, a fermentation starter. *probably lst reason. Saba shioyaki: grilled mackeral falling off the bone quality. Moist, boneless with light dipping sauce. Tonkatsu had slightly thick dipping sauce, crispy crust. Informed waitress in Cantonese meat was 2/3 ngaang6 (hard), 1/3 nen (tender). Meant to say gon1 (dry). Nice finish with orange wedge & a timble of plum wine. 4 stars: quality: not consistent, quantity: good, worthiness: ymmv.

    Double Sake roll

First time here. Dropped in at the last minute. I never made it into the prior sushi place ocupying this space. We have driven by multiple times and tonight heading elsewhere we stopped here. Upon entering I was pleasantly surprised as to the number of diners here. It wasn't packed but it wasn't empty. Looked like it could be families from the neighborhood. I hate walking into an empty restaurant where the staff is looking at each other as its their last night. Not the case here! We were greeted and seated right away and ordered some sake as we looked over the menu. We decided on the Saba dinner and a Double Sake Roll. I'm a huge fan of Saba and it was grilled to perfection along with miso soup and green salad. The dressing on the salad had a certain tang to it and when the greens were gone I drank the left over dressing. (Don't tell my partner 'cause she'll think that's unrefined. Y'all know what I really mean) The saba was excellent and a full serving almost on it's own for the both of us. The Double Sake roll was also great and had a spicy sauce with a bot of a kick that was nice. A very extensive sake list along with more wines than I have seen at other sushi places. And of course the usual beers. Service was great and the prices resonable. We have our favorite sushi haunts in Alameda and I think this could become one of them. 4 stars for now since first time in. Totally in the running for 5 the next time here.

    Beef udon
    Kenneth T.

Beef udon was delicious. The beef was so tender and juicy, the best beef udon we have around here in Alameda. Unagi Don was ok. Some parts of the unagi was chewy instead of tender so that wasn't as good. But the parts that were tender, which was about 70%, was umami delicious. It was good and reminded me of the original restaurant at this location - Kamakura. The combination bento box of gyoza, tonkatsu and teriyaki salmon was good. The only thing that didn't taste as good was the teriyaki salmon - overly cooked and overly dressed with teriyaki sauce.

3/4/25 Shared restrooms with the other tenants.

Congrats on your new second location. 2 weeks new! Quality/Quantity - Over ordered as usual, but we wanted to support. Two Item Combo Bento Box, Chicken and Salmon. Came with rice, salad, and miso soup. Passion Roll - So fresh, see pictures. Crispy Spicy Hamachi Roll - Fried well. Good flavors, etc. The only thing that would have made this better was if the hamachi was able to stay raw in the roll. Dare to dream. Atmosphere - We miss Kamakura! Closed due to a fire in 2017. But now a beautiful new location. Looks like you moved the kitchen more upfront and made it larger. The sushi bar is also larger. Still street parking, both metered and free residential parking if you are willing to walk a few blocks. Open 7 days a week from 11:30am or noon to 9pm or 9:30pm. Service - Excellent. Very welcoming. Talked with Zhi about the history of Kamakura and how their remodel differed from the previous business. And the backup waitress was also good. Price - $55 + tip. Owner Comment - Congrats to Andy Guan for your second sushi location.

Starter sashimi dinner! Came with soup and salad. Great keto option! Fish was fabulous!

Wow! Absolutely fabulous! Food was fantastic and the entire staff was super friendly and attentive! I think I have my new favorite Japanese in alameda! We shared the Glenview and it was amazing! The salmon skin chips were a super clever idea and super tasty! I always had the starter sashimi dinner. All of the fish was like butter and tasted amazing! Great keto option! I also love that they have soy paper as an option for the roles. I will be coming back here a lot!

I ate here for dinner with my family last Saturday night. We were able to make a last minute reservation over the phone for 7:30 pm. When we arrived, we were greatly warmly by the server and shown our booth. Two of us, including myself, ordered the nabeyaki which was delicious and full of ingredients. One ordered the oyakadon which was also a hearty dish. One ordered the beef teriyaki dinner which was okay -- beef could've been a bit more tender. As a little bonus, we were served complimentary plum wine in the tradition of Kamakura, the former iconic restaurant in that location. Overall, we had a very nice experience here. The food and service were very good. We liked the ambiance. The restaurant was modern, warm and inviting with a good sized sushi bar. I hope this restaurant is successful, as it doesn't get the foot traffic it would if it were on Park St. We will definitely be back.

The inside was BLACK and soggy!! Chinese all you can eat buffets have better quality than this. It was actually so bad I couldn't even continue eating it. The price was atrocious for that as well ($25 for 1lb, $22 for half). Service was just as bad. The two waitresses seemed like they hated being there and took forever to get us menus, took even longer to take our order and she just sat behind the counter and ate instead of bringing us water or utensils. They never once came back to check in on us after dropping the food off. The catfish was BLAND despite it looking seasoned which was shocking and the short ribs looked and tasted boiled as you can see in the photo. Just overall horrible quality. I'm actually sad about this spot! Just moved to the east bay from sf and it looked promising. Just was an unfortunate disappointment.

Parking is a bit difficult but we managed to find street parking a block away. Wasn't too crowded and there was plenty of seating inside. You order first and you find a table to sit, and they bring out the food to you. Self serve water is available. The food came out pretty quick! Thoughts: - Lobster roll (classic) was delicious! Generous amount of lobster. Would definitely get this again. Chips weren't too great though. - Fried shrimp basket was nice. Shrimp was crispy and tasty. Fries were also very crispy and flavorful. The sauces go well with the shrimp/fries. Coleslaw isn't the best though. - The crab nachos were surprisingly good. A nice cheese sauce combo with pico/avocado crema and a good amount of crab. - Garlic noodles were fine, nothing standout about them. - Mix and match basket with catfish, cod, and calamari (not pictured): Catfish was solid (would highly recommend, one of the favorites of the meal!), but would pass on the cod and calamari - a bit dry/fishy. Would recommend for a casual spot for seafood and a nice view!

Anyone remember the Jack London Village that they tore down to build this end of the development? Anyways - this is a fast casual type spot, where you order from the counter, place the little number sign on your table and wait for it to be delivered. The menu is your standard seafood joint by the water type, with all the usual suspects represented. Fried fish, shrimp, chowder, seafood pastas--if you've ever been to a seaside seafood joint, chances are good that the menu here is exactly like the one you remember seeing at the countless other places like this one. I noticed right off the bat that their pricing structure was on the high side - with a $17 burger and fries option, with the bulk of the fried seafood options in the $22-25 range. A cheaper choice might be the $16 fish tacos (two of them) but I kind of draw the line at paying $8 for a single taco. Our table ordered a few of the fried options plus a few soda beverages. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and I noticed that the silver metal trays that the food comes on is a bit on the small side, especially considering the prices for each dish. The fried shrimp dish was a big scoop of mega-salty french fries, and 3 average sized deep fried shrimp. Yes - 3 as in 1, 2, 3. That's what - $7+ a shrimp? The two fried fish platters weren't much better portion-wise. My deep fried cod consisted of three modest sized fish-fingers, and not the single luscious chunk of perfectly fried cod I had imagined in my head when ordering. They were fine - but very average and nothing that stood out as life-changing or something to write home about. As mentioned earlier, they must be employing the Little Rascals method where they over salt everything, in hopes that you'll order another beverage to wash down the copious mounts of sodium (I figure about 4+ days worth). The fried catfish platter that rounded out our order was more of the same - thin meager portions of fish on a large bed of mega-salted fries. Small plastic containers of generic pre-made tartar sauce and coleslaw can with each platter. The coleslaw was fine - just very forgettable and perhaps a tad on the flavorless/watery side. All said, was it okay? Yes. Was it anything outstanding that I'd crave and plan my return to have again? No. It is in line with touristy by-the-Sea seafood places that charge an extra couple of bucks because they're "on the water"? Pretty much. You're paying for the view and the 'scene' of sitting on the patio out front to people watch, and not for the food. I kind of hate these places and normally try my best to stay away from them, but every once in awhile, you gotta put on your tourist hat and join the mindless flock. A meager 2 stars outta 5 from me. Instead, I'd stroll around this area on a Sunday when they hold the farmer's market (again - is not what it used to be) and then drive through the tube to Alameda where great dining spots are numerous on Park Street. You can stop at Crab Cove and Crown Beach on the way, for more touristy sightseeing.

There's nothing NOT to love about this place!…read more I made a reservation for date night, as we've wanted to try this place for awhile. The atmosphere is cozy and casual and the service staff are really friendly. In terms of food, we started with a dozen oysters, the smoked trout dip, and the boquerones. The smoked trout dip was outstanding!!! Loved the flavor of it! The Boquerones was also delicious... the oysters were all fresh and can be ordered with horseradish and hot sauce (I think it was Crystal). For mains we ordered the steamed mussels and the grilled shrimp. The mussels were good, though on the smaller side, and the shrimp was delicious, buttery and garlicky. Great combo! To finish I had the Key Lime Pie which was done in a bowl. Great lime flavor and not overly sweet. Overall, a fantastic experience and we will definitely return!

I wanted to give this place a try because I've been searching for an oyster bar close to home…read more Unfortunately, I won't be returning. When we walked in, we were greeted with an awkward look, which immediately made the experience feel a little uncomfortable. We were seated with menus and waited about 10 minutes without anyone coming by to take a drink order. I completely understand that staff may be busy attending other guests, so I tried to be patient. Since it felt a little stuffy inside, I kindly asked if we could sit outside, and they said yes. After moving outside, we waited another 10+ minutes and still no one checked in on us. Meanwhile, I could hear servers laughing and chatting nearby while we continued to be overlooked, so we ultimately decided to leave. I was genuinely excited to try this place, so the experience was disappointing.

This place was literally empty when we came here for lunch…read more Like it looked like it was abandoned kind of empty. Like haunted restaurant kind of empty. Thankfully the server was nice and the food we had was surprisingly good. I say this because we honestly weren't sure if their seafood cioppino would be any good given the majority of their menu featured Vietnamese dishes. Interesting combination. Like Fisherman's Wharf merged with a Pho restaurant. You can get your oysters and deviled eggs and bahn mi sandwiches here. For realz, look at the menu. Anyways I liked my cioppino. Didn't have a lot of seafood but the flavor profile was spot on and the garlic bread was decent. That's why I never want to judge a Vietnamese Fisherman's Restaurant based solely on their menu--because the food just may surprise you! My coworker liked her bahn mi sandwich and the view of the boats and the nice weather made this a great place to catch up on old times.

It's trying to be fancier than it actually is. A mix of wonderful scratch made elements (delecate, interesting sauces, perfectly cooked fish, lovely fresh asparagus) and some elements I think are frozen/pre-made stuff (fries, ravioli, mashed potatoes, seaweed salad). We went on a weekday at 2pm. We sat on the upstairs balcony. It was very quiet and peaceful, which is honestly such a rare win for any restaurant in the Bay, I might go back just for this. The view is heavenly, completely gorgeous. I would like to see how they deliver on the raw oysters ($4 each) and Cesar salad. Pricing is definitely too high for the quality of the food but not more so than any other East Bay restaurant with a waterfront view, and this view is better than any other I know. Service was... Kind of ridiculous... Only one person working the entire front of the restaurant - no greeter at the entrance, no bartender, no busser, and that person simply does not have enough command of the English language to do the job well. Could not effectively answer any of our questions about the menu. Could not understand we wanted the appetizer dishes cleared away to make room for the very large main course dishes. Disappeared for so long we had to get up and go find them to ask for our check. Never asked if we wanted drinks or dessert. Said some surprisingly rude phrases but I'm sure it was an ESL issue, I genuinely don't think they intended to be rude. They certainly did not catch it or notice At All what was happening when one of our group was briefly rude back by responding in kind (before realizing it was accidental). We had to ask more than once to bring us knives even though there are foods in our main dishes that can't be cut with the side of a fork. And on, and on, etc. Oh one good thing was we asked to each paid separately and they let us do that without any trouble, and got our individual items correct immediately.

Alley&Vine was the first recommendation via yelp, so off I went. Arrived at around 8pm and was greeted by the wonderful Janet. She was super kind, warm, and welcoming and gave me the option to sit at a table or the bar. Being a solo traveller, I opted for the bar which was honestly great. To Start, I had a Singapore sling. Its rare I see these on the menu so I had to try. It was strong and delicious! So happy with my choice. For food, I had so much meat. The lamb chops to start were incredible. This was served with a little mozzarella + tomato salad with all of the balsamic glaze. Super yummy and perfectly medium rare. Next time, I can just have this on its own. Definitely a star. Next, I had the duck breast which sat on a bed of spinach risotto. Very delicious and also cooked perfectly. Being Taylor, I had to finish out the dinner with another cocktail (lemon drop) that was great and finally I had a little glass of port as my dessert. All in al a great little dinner at Alley & Vine. Thanks again to Janet and the team for some excellent service and incredible food.

We were greeted warmly and we each ordered a drink to start. I got the blood orange sour, which was tasty, and my friend got the strawberry margarita, which she enjoyed. I ordered the seafood pasta, while my friend got the spinach seafood risotto. I will state the obvious, these are just about the two most expensive dishes on the menu, but man, they had heaps of seafood and were absolutely delicious! When I say heaps, I mean the shrimp and scallops were giant, there were mussels and clams and crab meat. 100% worth it! We finished the meal with the tiramisu and that was ok. Honorable mention to our server who was attentive without being overbearing. I would absolutely come back and would highly recommend!

the food was really good even to go. that really all i have to say that was good…read more i went there to order to go. there were around 3-4 tables with people that were eating there and we were the only ones ordering togo. our order wasn't big, it was a normal seafood boil with garlic noodles. thats it. we waited around 10-15 minutes at first before wondering where our food was. i noticed that the couple that was eating there had ordered another bag for to go after we had ordered and they got their food before us. we gave them the benefit of the doubt and continued waiting. in total we waited 30-40 minutes for a TO GO order of two items. we asked them where our food was and the waitress checked it. it was never sent to the kitchen because they had computer issues but what i was confused about is why were we the only ones with an order problem and not any of the people that came after us ordering to go as well. i am also confused why the waiters were walking around serving everyone else and not noticing that we've been sitting there for so long. and the restaurant was not packed AT ALL. no one thought "why are they sitting there for so long after ordering 30 minuted ago?" after checking in with her, the waitress was very apologetic and offered for a free appetizer. we ordered cajun fries. we got home and the cajun fries were normal fries with no seasoning at all. are we serious?
