Stopped here for lunch one day because it's near my office. I ordered the chicken sandwich via drive through, which was confusing to figure out if you enter from the south. I live close to the Burnet Road location of Hat Creek so I am here often! The employees are very friendly and customer service is great! The food is delicious - I am a huge fan of their breakfast tacos (very fresh ingredients and great tortillas), pancakes (fluffy and sweet), grain burgers (good texture), and milkshakes (made with Blue Bell). The restaurant has a fun play space for kids and outdoor patio seating. When I drive by in the evenings, I often see a lot of families enjoying the patio and play area. The drive-thru is convenient for grabbing something quick. Overall, Hat Creek is one of my favorite places for tacos and veggie burgers in Austin! read more

Good sauces and friendly staff, plus they offer deals on Tuesday and Thursday. My only criticism right now is ...They need more parking at the Burnet Rd location and the Westlake location too. Burgers are smaller than you'd expect. They aren't seasoned. The fries will be hit or miss, not bad but nothing to call home about. $21 for 2 combos like that get 2 stars. Do you love the sound of screaming children/parents? If so, you'll love this place. If you're lucky enough to have one open near you, you'll get to hear terrible parents and their poorly behaved children scream, cry, and fight for 15 hours a day, every day! For some reason, they thought it would be a great idea to open a building underneath a residential apartment complex and announce orders on megaphones at 7AM. Not an exaggeration, they start announcing orders on megaphones right when the place opens. I complained about this and they said they'd send me coupons for free burgers. While the notion is nice, mediocre hamburgers aren't going to help me sleep in on a Saturday morning. read more

I have a new love for burgers. First P Terry's and now Hat Creek. I have to say that I think Hat Creek is better (though P Terry's is closer). Both are less expensive and just as good or better than Mighty Fine. Hat Creek is tastier, and probably not as good for you, as P Terry's but boy was it a great burger. I will be back!!! I really liked the fact that you could pick from several types of cheeses, and I liked the options on the burgers. Additionally, the fry's - then cut in the store apparently, are to die for. This is a great, quick place when you have kids. Kids choices are fresh and still good. Garden salad with chicken is really good with more veggies than you would expect from a burger place. Overall this is a great option for a 'healthy' drive through with 2 kids in the car. read more

Ordered a "Big Hat" burger (two patties) after learning from the order-taker that their beef patties weigh in at 1/5th -- not a quarter -- but 1/5th of a pound each. Unusual. Burger was served piping hot though there was a paucity of the grilled onions I requested atop it. It was just ok. The desiccated french fries were terrible evidently having sat around under a heat lamp. This was my first visit, and given some of the positive reviews here I'll give them another try. read more

I hadn't been to Hat Creek in nearly two years, but had recently heard that their vegie burger (Dang Grains?) was very good. Maybe they were having an off day, but I didn't like it. The patty was so dry that it fell apart all over the tray when I picked it up to eat it. There was little sauce, and the patty tasted like cardboard. The vegetables were wilted. To top it off, I paid about $7.80 for the burger and a drink, with nothing else. I did have cheese and whole wheat, so maybe that's what made the price so high. I think you can get a much better vegie sandwich, plus fries or onion rings and a large drink, at Hill Berts down the street for a similar price. read more

We grabbed lunch here due to a recommendation from a friend. Man, was I disappointed! Between the three of us, we got two fries, a grain burger, a Big Hat, and a grilled cheese. The grain burger was really bland and ho-hum. It was also pretty pricey. The Big Hat was okay, but you were charged $0.69 more for a slice of cheese. The grilled cheese was standard, and the fries were at least decently seasoned. When all was said and done, it was nearly $20 for the three of us. When we go to P. Terry's, where they have better food and lower prices, we can feed four for under $20. Save your money and head to P. Terry's to get the same type of food, only better. read more

I will say I use to come here at least twice a week before the remodel. I've eaten here twice since and I have to say it's a disappointment. The set up is bad and the vibe I liked is gone. So the kids and I thought we would try a new burger place. I was mostly interested in sitting outside and letting them play on the playground. It turned out to be such a great experience. First of all, we mentioned to Westley that it was our first time there and he walked us through the entire menu and made great suggestions. Then he told me it was family night (Tuesdays after 5pm - check it out) and so we were going to save a ton of money! He seemed to really care that we liked the food and had a great time. I had the new grain burger which was truly the best veggie burger I've ever had. It tasted too good to be healthy so I'm not sure about that part. All the food was great and the kids, who can usually eat a house, were actually full! Happy mom! I highly recommend this place and they have a real gem in Westley. I thought for sure he was the owner but it turns out, he wasn't! We'll be back for breakfast tacos soon. read more

If Yelp allowed me to rate this 3.5 I would. Reconverting the closets Arbys to my house into this burger place is a good move. On that part of Burnet Road they have the market cornered. My experience was well with the burgers. Greatly seasoned and bountiful with natural Angus beef. It was delicious and some what memorable. It's hard to compete with Austin's best burgers with Top Notch, Dan's, Huts, and P Terrys but they live up to the reputation that I've heard. As for the price it is too much for what you are getting. if you want the same type of burger but for less price then go to Mighty Fine Burgers. The size of the big hat burger is small but its topped with two somewhat thin patties. In addition the extra cost for cheese is outrageous. 70 cents for American with a dollar for the others. By that time your burger will be at over 5 dollars close to six without it being a combo meal. As for the fries they are good made with natural ingredients but the salting did not make them stand out. With the rise in natural burgers here in Austin there is room for competition. Terra Burger is going all organic but is losing to Mighty Fine due to quality. Hat Creek can do so much better with the issue of price and the small size of their big hat burger. Will I go back. Yes, but, not in a hurry. read more

My husband & I eat hat Creek Burgers every other Tuesday. This Tuesday however the food was horrible the burgers were tough and chewy and no flavor and very very thin. I asked for no salt on my sweet potato fries and typically they put salt on them and they did. I return them but nine times out of 10 when I go to hat Creek they put salt on the sweet potato fries even though I'm very explicit no salt. At this point I probably will not go back to hat Creek Burgers anymore. read more

Having recently moved to Brentwood, Top Notch has been our "go to" burger place for cheap date night. We decided to turn left on Burnet this time and tried Hat Creek and it was delish. Enjoyed the hat Burger. My Buddy really liked the special Burger, he thought that the spicy saurcrout was great. I enjoyed the shakes as they were flavorful, however they could be a little thicker. I hit up Hat Creek when I was in town a few weeks ago and the turkey burgers are legit. The pricing is a little weird. They try and charge $1.50 to add avocado to a $3 burger, but whatever. Just avoid the weird add-ons and you'll be happy with the food. read more

Definitely have a problem with Hat Creek: it is located within walking distance of the home. Since the wife doesn't eat meat, it's altogether too easy to head over and get a meal. I pretty much stick with the double cheeseburger - it's not huge, and I don't feel like a major slug when I match it up with fries and a drink . I go American cheese and jalapenos, though the burger is nice and peppery (generally well-seasoned) on it's own. In fact, you can see the large flecks of pepper on the burger when you lift up the bun. Very good. Fries are excellent. Thin, crispy and hot even when I wait to eat at home. The absolute deal closer for me? The drink. Crazy, but Hat Creek has the perfect pellet ice and the soda fountain pours the best Dr Pepper in town. Not too sweet, carbonation is spot-on. I will occasionally drop-by just for the drink. If you haven't been, make the trip soon. I think you'll be quite happy. Hope for your sake you aren't within walking distance. If so, it might mean motivation to work out a bit more! read more

I really wanted to like "Hat Creek". I took my daughters there for as they like to call it our "girls night out". After we ordered I used the rest room and it was gross. No other way to say it, sticky floor and dirty. Next it was time to find a table while we waited for our burgers. There was ketchup on seats, salt shakers and again just dirty. In fact we decided we would rather eat outside at 4:30 and go deaf from the traffic going by. Finally the burgers... they were just ok. The fries on the other hand were very good nut not good enough to come back for. Thank goodness we chose to wait on dessert only Mexican Vanilla from Amy's can save this girls night out. read more

I'm rating this based on the most ordinary thing you could get there: a burger and fries. Both were delicious. It's a very laid back place, a lot of families with kids. You order at the counter and sit until they call your name with your order (it was pretty quick on a Saturday afternoon.) My point of comparison is Five Guys. It reminded me of a more family-oriented Five Guys, for roughly the same price, and with a few more non-burger things. The burger was probably as good as Five Guys, although it tends to come with standard toppings instead of you picking all the options. came out here on a whim with my aunt and loved it! super friendly staff and the food was delicious. love the natural cut fries and yummy burger toppings. i almost always get a mushroom and swiss anywhere i go. and if i can get it, grilled onions. this place did not disappoint. the drink machine threw me off at first, but figured it out right away. the parking is a little wonky, but it's austin...everything's a little wonky. building is cute and i love that there's an area for kids. read more

This was my first time here. The burger was pretty good. Cheesy and greasy and super filling. I did specify medium well for the meat but it was overcooked. No big deal. I had looked at pictures on Yelp to see what kind of fries they had. The pictures on Yelp are deceiving. I ended up not eating half of my order because it was a lot of crispy burnt pieces that weren't appealing. They have a lot of different sauces though which were awesome! I didn't even use ketchup or any other basic condiment because the sauces were so good. Overall, i enjoyed it but wouldn't get fries next time. read more
