    Happy Chick meal
    Mary L.

It's a chicken joint, with tenders, sandwiches, salads, and a decent variety of sides. I've often driven past it on my way to T22, and wondered whether to give it a try. Today, with a BOGO coupon in hand, I did. It's a counter-order fast-food type setup, but I thought it strange that the big menu board didn't mention prices. I had to search around to find that info, in a battered 8x10 frame on the wall. Hmm. $13 for a meal of 3 tenders and fries, with no drink or biscuit included? Seemed a bit much. I got mine to go, and asked for one order of original and one of spicy tenders, but at home, neither of us could tell the difference, so I guess they didn't give me spicy. The tenders varied in size from big to skimpy, but were fresh and tasty--though I would have liked to try the spicy type. The fries were also good, a nice medium cut, in between the dreaded shoestring and chunky steak fry. The sauces we got were good, but if you use a lot, looks like they charge "Just 99 cents!" for an extra tablespoonful. With my BOGO, the price seemed about right. But at their posted price point, (which seems designed to go up at a moment's notice) I'm much more likely to spend that much for table service and excellent chicken a few blocks further north on Burnet--or half that for Cane's or Popeyes, if I want to order at a counter and eat out of a box.

5* to Matt for his friendly service and great music in this little chicken joint on Burnet. While I admit I originally had set out on foot to Fly Rite (now closed) I was relieved to see this sign and enjoyed a delicious chicken sandwich while I was getting my car serviced at the nearby Mazda dealership! A plethora of sauces offered, I enjoyed the avacado plabano.

Quick bite to eat at this small chicken shack. I got the happy chick which consisted of 3 tenders choice of original or spicy fries and one extra side; I chose a side of Mac and cheese. The tenders were very crispy and fresh. The tenders were seasoned well. I opted for the spicy tenders however, they were not spicy at all. I liked the flavor of the white Mac and cheese but unfortunately it was served Luke warm. The fries were good (I like battered fries). They have a lot of sauce options. I had the honey mustard which was delicious (tasted home made) and garlic ranch (good but wasn't super garlicky as I hoped). Overall this was a nice little quick meal and if I come back to town I would come back.

10/10 this place hit the spot for my chicken tender craving Tenders: quality white meat chicken, no weird gristle or tendons, meat was tender and seems like they fried it just for my order Fries: well seasoned and crispy, can't ask for anything more Mac and cheese: good cheese flavor, I liked it Wish they had prices on the menu- my plate came out to $11 after tax and tip which I think is fine for how quality each piece of my meal was

So good. This is the spicy/hot chicken. Wasn't nashville spicy, but it had a good kick. I wish they gave more fries.

Had not been to this restaurant in a good while, and was a last minute decision. Good choice. The whipped feta is always a treat -- light and creamy with a solid feta taste, but not overpowering, served with a few orange slices and thinly sliced almonds, and pita. Special dish! Beet salad excellent, but the Fresno peppers had way too much heat, so pushed them to side. My wife had the Moroccan curry, which had a very spot on Moroccan flavor (been there 3x), and was a large, filling portion so brought home leftovers. I had the grilled pork chop which was large, perfectly grill with a tasty bourbon-based glaze, served with a large roasted garlic clove. Wonderful dish. My wife had a white wine that she enjoyed and my martini, slightly dirty with olives (to start) was a large pour and very smooth. Enjoyable meal in a nice setting once again ...

The standout was the Brussel sprouts...crispy with this absolutely delicious drizzle. I ordered the Mezze plate with a flavor explosion and many desirable texture. It had lamb kabobs, fresh salad (emphasis on fresh) with thinly sliced cucumbers, finely sliced onions and creamy feta (never had creamy feta), red round sweet peppers, hummus with the most delightful pesto like sauce, and olives. It is a sports bar It has a million attractive wonderful aspects. It has a million pain in the neck aspects. Everything is a good news bad news joke. But the good news is pretty good. * * * I ran into the bad news right upon entering the restaurant. There was not a comfortable table to sit at anywhere in the restaurant except at the bar. Benches were so low that it was like being a four year old at the grown up table. I would have needed a telephone book to reach the table. Regular chairs don't face the TV so you have to crane your neck to see the sports. Comfortable curved sofa benches exist, but they are 500 miles from the TV. So I tried seat after seat after seat before ending up at the bar. The bar was okay. * * * The bar choices are ample and slim. There were surprisingly thin offerings on beer. There were WONDERFUL listings on bourbon and rye. I am a rye drinker, so I was in hog heaven. The tequila listings were pretty good too. Gin drinkers, scotch drinkers and vodka drinkers were just going to have to take what was available. The cocktail menu was about average. I was in a golden cloud of glory with all my choices. Angel's Envy Rye is first rate libation that is simultaneously fiercely peppery and sublimely smooth. Rough on the taste means usually means rough going down. This was BDSM with the grace of a feather. I was in love. * * * Chile con carne was a beautiful chili with brisket rather than the usual hamburger. Flavoring was superb. The brisket chunks were three times as big as you would comfortably want to put in your mouth all at once. You don't want to take a fork and knife to a bowlful of chili. So I was struggling to eat my meat all night while at the same time admiring the quality of the recipe. Cover 3 Kitchen Preppers: How much extra work is it really to cut your meat into manageablely sized pieces? * * * Garlic Mashed Potatoes had a picture of garlic walked in front of the potatoes while they were boiling. Garlic? What garlic? The handful of mouthfuls with butter were good. The rest was empty starch. * * * The human beings working the bar were fantastic. Two of the nicest and most helpful ladies working in the bartending trade. Good people count for a lot in a restaurant. * * * The sports televisions were great. Watching Duke eke out a one point win over Louisville in women's basketball was good times. * * * Then comes the dessert. Dark clouds. The brownie with three scoops of ice cream, candied pecans, and caramel sauce tasted fantastic. It was an irresistible end to a meal. But brownies should really really not be the size of a big box store. Remember from English class - "Enough! No More! Tis not so sweet now as it was before." The brownie was three to five times the size of a regular brownie - and this was before all the extra stuff was put on top of it. It was super rich and super good the way brownies are supposed to be. It was gooey the way super brownies are supposed to be. But the only human being in history who could have managed that sucker was Diamond Jim Brady, the notorious glutton of the Gilded Age. (Four T-bone steaks, two ducks, a half a dozen lobsters, three dozen oysters, two pounds of candy and an entire pastry tray were a normal dinner for him. He could go for more if there were special treats.) I went from being happy and in a good mood to being a little full, then more than full, then Jesus-Christ-I-Can't-Stand-It-Anymore. I left half of that brownie on my plate, and left Cover 3 nauseated and staggering. Not the way you want to end an otherwise fine evening. * * * Cover 3 has its definite attractions - even if you have to put up with the chairs. Bourbon and rye drinkers, take especial note. If you are going to have dessert, Bring a Sunday School bus full of second graders with you. One dessert will be enough to feed the bus.

That kind of attention feels thoughtful and rare, especially for a counter service spot. They have a nice selection of iced teas including herbal tea and flavored green tea, plus beer and soda. It feels like more of a brunch / lunch place but it works for dinner too. This isn't a place where you come away saying "you have to order this one thing." This time I decided to try their matcha- it comes topped with a chocolate pistachios cream (this was a bit too much for me, my daughter liked it) and the matcha was also too sweet for me, but very flavorful. For our main dish I ordered the shrimp and grits, and my daughter ordered biscuits and gravy. My dish had 4 small shrimp (which I ate) a lot of anduille sausage bits, and a lot of flavorful sauce over these soupy cheesy grits that was not what I expected. It was served as a "soup" with a spoon. There was some toasted bread on the side of the bowl. While everything was very flavorful, I did not like the soupy consistence, it was unexpected for me. My daughter's biscuits and gravy, on the other hand, needed more gravy... she liked the dish but she felt her gravy was too little for the serving. Then she also ordered a half order (1) pancake with cinamon roll French toast and we took that home. It had good flavor! Overall, I enjoyed the food, the flavors were good, the prices have definitely gone up a LOT. 3 stars for good flavor as expected- but I was not "blown away"... but yes of course I would come again!
