Fries are NOT good. I don't know if it was because it was busy or they were understaffed, but the fries were soggy and looked/tasted like they were sitting for awhile before being served. Many of the sweet potato fries were also just broken pieces, kinda mashed up. Burger was ok, would rather pay a few dollars more and eat at another burger spot, which is right down the street. Saving grace was surprisingly the chicken nuggets, they had a good crispiness to them, even though the ones we got were sauced. Also they were cut up pieces of chicken and not ground up, which is always appreciated. Tables and seats were clean, so that was nice. Be prepared for a lot of children running around in a tight space as well. Feel like this is more for families with little kids than a place if you want burgers and fries. read more

We always enjoy our experience at Hat Creek. They are kid-forward in their design and open playground concept. Soft turf for the little ones to run around with added protection. The open patio right next to the play place is super convenient for parents needing to keep an eye on their kids while dining. Things I would change are easier chairs to use for kids in booster seat ages and an easier ordering system. If I opt to change or add toppings on my sandwiches, they often get served incorrectly. My wife and I went to Hat Creek Burger Company (HCBC) for the first time, this past week. Not a lot going on in this joint but an ordering cue, tables to sit at, drink and condiments station and... well, that's about it. My wife ordered the Fried Chicken Burger (made in the Grilled style) with Sweet Potato Fries, while I ordered the Cowboy with added jalapeños and regular Fries. We shared an order of Chicken Nuggets and an order of Fried Pickles. It turned out to be a bit much food but we were in the mood to sample, since it was our inaugural visit. Everything tasted very good and we were pleased with the quality and quantity of the servings. We used Happy Sauce (Sweet with a little tang), Hat Sauce (Tangy with a hint of horseradish and black pepper heat), and Ranch. We did like all of the sauces. The Fried Pickles had a nice snap and were crisply fried. The Sweet Potato Fries were nice and crispy and tasted better than I've had at most places. The regular Fries were unexpectedly seasoned with something akin to a medium spiced paprika, which I would leave off next time. I prefer salt and sometimes salt and pepper.Nevertheless, the regular Fries were also tasty. The chicken nuggets were very yummy and piping hot! I've seen people in other reviews complain about "soggy" bread on their burgers. I too found my bread to be a little soggy, but in all fairness, I don't mind that so much since I prefer and want a hamburger to be dripping with juices. That said, I believe what I will call the "thermal effect" to not be a problem with food preparation or quality at HCBC, rather a problem most likely related to the type of wrapping used by HCBC for their "sandwiches." It IS the exact same problem and the main reason I will not order a burger from a well-known drive-in what's name is something that sounds close to the word "bionic." These restaurants use a paper-lined, foil wrapping that results in a retention of heat, which further results in the creation of steam that has no place to go but into the bread of the sandwich. Personally, I strongly dislike these thermal wrappings and would much prefer a warm or room temp sandwich that is much less dampened by created moisture from this type of packaging. Packaging aside, I really enjoyed my hamburger and found it to be very manageable to eat despite having two patties. There was no moldy smell in the iced soft drinks that would lead me to think there is slime in the ice machine, so that too was good! The young man running the register, taking orders was very knowledgeable and helpful in getting these two first-timers settled-in to an order. The military discount offered was VERY MUCH appreciated, as every little bit helps in these times of harsh inflation! Overall, we really enjoyed the food and the vibe, which was mostly created by the chill people around us. If you're looking for a tasty, ample burger, I recommend giving Hat Creek a try. Eat well. I had this place once a long time ago and promised myself I would never go back, but today I was helping my mom move into the area and saw it and thought why not give it another try and see if it got better, it didn't... Overall it is a terrible establishment! This location specifically I had a really bad experience. First, as you walk in you're greeted with the slip hazard of ice all over the floor from the malfunctioning soda fountain machine that they refuse to fix or clean up. Then, the hygiene lacking cashier hands you your cup by placing it rim down on the nasty sticky counter (floors around the whole place are sticky as well). Don't even get me started on the food!!! It's like when you have a family get together and the drunk uncle that nobody wants cooking their food gets on the grill. The burgers remind me of Wendy's which should be an embarrassment for how high the prices are. I highly suggest avoiding this place! read more

I got food to go from here a few weeks ago and honestly thought it was meh. I responded that to a text they sent me for feedback and they wrote back and asked me to try it again. I was impressed with the customer service and that they actually seemed to care. I went back for lunch today and it was a million times better. I would recommend eating at the restaurant because it didn't hold up well to go. Eating there was the way to go- it was all fresh and delicious and I'm glad I gave it another try. One star is as low as it goes. 6 months ago I had an order that the fries were so cold, they could have been frozen. I commented about it and you asked me to come back. I did today. Well, the fries were cold, again. I asked for no ice in my coke, it was so full of ice I didn't notice ice was in there. This is the third Hat Creek Burgers I've been to after discovering them about two months ago. All of them have been excellent, except for this one. We went with two other families, so about 6 adults and 6 kids overall. (3 separate orders). Us and the one smaller party got our orders right away. Our friends with several kids didn't get their order until nearly 30 minutes after they ordered, and on top of that, he had to find out they had put it on the "to go" shelf and never said anything to him about it, even though we were eating there. From what I heard, they said they were "slammed", but the other two I've been to (Rowlett and Walnut Hill) were much busier and had the same amount of workers. read more

Bought two chicken sandwiches and kids nuggets. The meat tastes dry, not old. They made it fresh to go, but the texture is weird. I can only describe it as dry compared to chic fil a or Burger King, with the latter being king. Fries were excellent in texture and temp, but they put too much seasoning in. Glad they put less seasoning on the kid's meal fries. My toddler didn't like the nuggets. He took one bite and was done. Pretty sure kids can tell dry texture. Outstanding service, meal and environment during a midday trip to Hat Creek in nearby Sachse! Enjoyed a couple of delicious signature burgers with orders of sweet potato and regular French fries and some fried pickles. First the food was really good. My wife enjoyed a lettuce wrapped burger as a bread alternative. Most notably it had lots of fresh green to avoid the occasional sogginess that can occur. I had a Cowboy Hat which was just the right blend of sauce and toppings added to fresh hot beef! The fries and pickles were crisp and tasty. The environment was clean, clear and tidy. The play area was appropriate for kiddos of a wide range of ages. I even took a spin on the play set and safely made out without any injuries. The reason I'm writing is because of the service. The normal boxes were checked off including a greeting and the food was delivered promptly. The in between was amazing. Casual conversation from the manager/cashier led to a great food recommendation. The friendly vibe from the staff was palpable and finally my little guy wanted more than fries and the staff found a way to comp a Tiny Hat cheeseburger. I love when the food, environment and service ADDS to a nice outing. I look forward to dining and playing at Hat Creek again soon! read more

Food is OK. Prices are too high though. Employees are not friendly at all. It seems like every time I place a to go order they can't hear me. I don't think they are trying to be annoying maybe their intercom system is broken. It's still annoying to have to repeat things 3 times in the back when placing an order and then get to the window and have to repeat the order again. My vehicle is not loud, this location is not in a noisy area, and I am speaking in a regular to loud tone. Then when I get to the window they are glaring and staring like I did something wrong. I also get concerned that if they can't hear, they are going to get my order wrong. That has happened and I had to go back up there. Ate here for the first time tonight. We ordered 1 big hat no cheese, 1 little hat w/cheese, 1 sombrero and three orders of fries, and zero drinks because we were bringing the food home. Total cost was $30 and some change. Based on the price my expectations were high, which is ok except for the reality did not meet the expectations. The burgers were just ok...not bad, but definitely not great. I get that it is grass fed beef and all that. But as someone always looking for a great burger at any price, I don't care if Nolan Ryan himself softly plays a guitar while singing country lullabies to these cows while they eat organic grass from a solid gold trough, it just better be really good if I am paying a premium for it. This wasn't that good. There are other "grass fed" burgers in Dallas that cost about the same or less but are much higher quality, just maybe not in the immediate Wylie area. The average teen or adult will spend $12 to $13 each for a burger, fries, and a drink. Remember, there are no combo meal deals here and the fries are not enough to split between 2 people. A family of four eating here with 4 burgers, 4 fries, and 4 drinks will easily set you back $50 or more. If you were eating at Village Burger Bar, Liberty Burger, Rodeo Goat, Twisted Root etc you will pay about the same or less price but get the quality of food to go with it. I will try to break this place down for people because it tends to be very polarizing. Do NOT come here if you want any combination of the following: McDonalds, inexpensive/value meal, kid-free in your dining experience. If you aren't ok with spending over $5 for a hamburger then don't come. DO come here if you want some or all of the following: hormone and antibiotic free grass fed beef (they use Nolan Ryan beef), a cool place you can let your kids play, great milk shakes, beer/wine while your kids play. If these don't appeal to you, you are not their target demographic. If you don't like the beef, you are pretty much saying you don't like Nolan Ryan beef (revocation of your Texas card), you don't like quality meat (hormone free antibiotic free, grass fed) and if so McDonalds probably suits you better. I'm not saying they are the best burgers I have had, but the meat is good meat. Now that I have called out our friends who question their quality, on to my experience. This location is new and we have been to the Rowlett and Dallas locations in the past. We came on a Tuesday night and it wasn't too crowded. I was second in line and ordered quickly. Food came out relatively quickly and imho was the best I have had their burgers taste. My son finished his flashers (chicken nuggets), but was disappointed that they didn't have a camper type structure like they have at the Rowlett location. From my view I thought the play structure was larger and looked really cool. In general kids were playing like they do at other Hat Creeks. The manager was standing behind the staff at the register when I ordered and came by speaking to guests shortly after I got our food. His name is Jacques and he was very friendly and answered my questions about the meat. All staff was friendly as usual and helpful. Although I agree that they aren't my favorite fries or burgers, they are good and the quality of the ingredients is high. You can relax and eat, talk with other adults and even have a local beer or glass of wine. And yes, you are paying for that experience too and to me that is really valuable sometimes. The grounds are always clean and my kids love it. That bumps the stars to 5 for me because I look forward to coming here and so do my kids. And for the record, I am not a robot, paid by hat creek or incentivized in any way to give a positive review. We look forward to the experience and I think many others enjoy it too.
