Their Ethiopian blend is one of the best I've tried and I've been to 50 plus coffee shops in the US.

It's a great coffee shop, one star taken because they gave me a cold drink when I ordered hot. One star taken because regular sweet drink is overly sweet, usually sweetener is something customer can add more but can't take away so surprised. I've only been once and the barista was the SWEETEST. She gave me a sticker as a "Welcome to Boone" gift. The drink was tasty and it was not a long wait. Great coffee. Friendly people. We went mid day on a Monday and the place was pretty full. Food items were prepackaged (possibly local?) items. We did not try any. I had the mocha latte and my wife had a juniper latte. Both were very good. We bought some coffee for a gift and the baristas offered to grind it. Also filled my water bottle with filtered water. Just a friendly atmosphere. My only suggestion would be for a little more seating. read more

I was looking forward to visiting Hatchet Coffee. I read the reviews and looked forward to a visit. I ordered, the staff was super friendly and polite. I'm pretty sure that they served the magic blend, dried fruit, spice and nutty. I ordered an espresso and a large latte. The espresso had no crema, no mouthfeel, very thin, and offered none of the tasting notes, seemed a good bit under extracted and acidic. The latte was very bland, seemed like a glass of warm milk. I was told that the latte was served as a triple shot, however there no mouthfeel, none of the nice blend of whole milk and espresso velvety texture. Reminiscent of a coffee from a gas station. I was excited to try the blend, not sure what happened. I think it was mainly barista error as there was nothing there that enhanced the coffees and too many negatives. I was very impressed with the current reviews, perhaps I was there at the wrong time, but today the coffees were quite lacking, sorry. read more

Hatchet has been my favorite coffee since I moved to Boone. Always friendly, peaceful, and of course, delicious coffee. Their coffee is roasted here which means their coffee is always fresh. I have never had a drink here I dislike. I even went out of my comfort zone to try the Nitro Cold Brew and I fell in love. Hatchet also is very involved in the community in Boone and always seems to be the extra hand here to help when people need it. They serve coffee after church services and help with the local pregnancy center. If you are debating where to go in the high country for some flavor-filled coffee and kind people, Hatchet is your place. read more

I cannot recommend Hatchet for its espresso drinks. They are consistently under pulled and taste bitter and weak. Especially given their high price tag, if you are looking for a good coffee, it will not be found here. Hatchet does have a significant amount of specialty mixed coffee drinks on its menu, if sweet and seasonal is your go-to coffee and you're willing to pay the high prices. The food is also good but once again- overpriced for the serving size. Additionally- they have a sort of market space set up in the coffee shop that purports itself to be locally made goods, however many of the gifts are not local at all, mass produced, and easily orderable online, which feels very misleading. read more

One of the great things about Boone, NC is the coffee shops and Hatchet Coffee is impressive from the minute you hit the door. Great decor and the staff is amazing. Francis made great suggestions. Tucked right outside of town, we were able to grab our afternoon pick-us-up without having to deal with the hustle and bustle of downtown. We enjoyed a Mocha and a gluten free chocolate chip cookie - both were very good. They have GF brownies too which I was told were made in store daily but they were fresh out so did not get to try one. So happy to find some gluten free treats in Boone! Wonderful place and people. Picked up a pound of coffee for home and they were very knowledgeable as well as patient about explaining the different roasts and tasting elements. We have been traveling from Nashville, through Asheville, stopping at many coffee shops along the way and then we arrived in Boone where we came across Hatchet, and it was hands down the best. I ordered a flat white with oat milk, and an iced vanilla oat milk latte. They are doing a great job during Covid, offering online order with designated order and pickup areas, with top notch customer service or should I say "southern hospitality"! We are planning another trip to Boone and I'll be back for more Hatchett coffee. read more

My husband used to work at a boutique coffee roaster, so he and I became used to excellent coffee as a daily routine. When we moved to the area over a year ago, he already had researched where to get out grounds for our daily French press coffee. Hatchet has never disappointed us and we have become loyal customers for over a year now! Our favorite go to has been the Vesper Espresso blend, but now we are absolutely loving the Hoodie Season blend.
