They seem very unsure about their prices which was a big red flag since other places were able to directly give my prices during our phone call. We chose to come to Hatton after a poor experience elsewhere. Hatton was exactly what we needed as we handled our senior cats last weeks. They seemed fairly priced, offered multiple options while never pushing us into any decisions, and they were so compassionate in helping ease the transition for or sweet boy. Let me begin by saying I always give the benefit of the doubt in life but we reached our threshold of patience. Been coming to this vet for 3 plus years since we moved to Elk Grove . Over the 3 years we have little by little been nickled and dimed over paying for high office visits and have gotten the feeling like this vet cares less about its patients and more about the money they charge !! Very tacky . For the last year plus our dog has been getting treatment for seizures but they never can remember the dogs sex which shouldn't bother me but it does . They leave messages saying she can come in or she is doing well. It's not hard to look at the chart and review it before speaking . Spent over 6k last year on our dog . The most recent "last straw" even happened when we paid for a full panel blood work to try to get to the bottom of our dogs seizures and they informed us that the blood may of been left out to long and not refrigerated when it should of been tand then tell us his blood sugar levels were dangerous and could be cancer !! Now this is terrible to be told this on top of that the test might not be accurate due to negligence. You would think they we would get all the info they need before telling us those type of things . And Do you think they called and said hey we made a mistake we apologize that your dog who suffers from anxiety each time he comes in for a vet visit and now you have to bring him back in to re test. Seriously a simple we are sorry this happened would have gone a long way . But all we got was it just no charge , complementary. Wow. Of course it's complimentary we already paid for it . Dr. Ku and Dr. Takata joined Hatton Veterinary Hospital many years ago and we followed them there from the old Greenhaven Vet clinic (when it was taken over by VCA). The clinic and the doctors at Hatton have cared for our animals for over 30 years and we have never had a problem. We have seen all the doctors over the years as well as the techs and desk staff and only experienced excellent service. Dr. Ku, specifically, is the perfect blend of Western and Eastern medicine when it comes to dogs. Place has been going downhill for years. They run it like a business and not a place to get compassionate care for your pets. All they want is their $90 visit fee. Every time something is wrong with my dog, even after getting a diagnosis at the ER they refuse to help without seeing my dog first to collect their $90 fee. (Which recently happened) There has been times where I've taken him in and he needs to go back a week later, there they are wanting another visit fee. The clientele is just $$ for them. They could care less about your animals. I spent less money at the ER than I do here and my dog gets better care. Been going here for over a decade and will never go back. read more

Some of the receptionists here aren't the kindest. I had to wait 10mins to checkout while holding my 6 month old. Even then vets were apologizing for me having to wait. The vets though are really patient with my dog, who's really anxious. I have to give her trazedone and muzzle her. I'd keep in mind that they're A LOT slower here than all vets I've been to. & they have a 24hr cancellation policy. The first vet I met was really amazing with my Shiba. My Shiba had a really bad experience when she got spayed in the past from another vet, and ever since she had really bad anxiety. They were able to get her xrayed, blood drawn, and urine collected. Fantastic work from Hatton Vet Hospital! I needed to take my dog in, almost emergency surgery on her eye, but Hatton was able to get me the next available appointment that morning, and next day was able to perform her surgery. Lucky the damage was minor and she cut her eyelid while scratching her ear. I thought I had to spend a lot, but it was affordable and didn't have to break my savings to save her eye. The Dr explained everything they did and was able to find another laceration we didn't see. They even trimmed her nails to prevent puncture. Staff was nice but busy, but they were really caring and communicated very well with anxious owners like us. Amazing work! Our dog's eye looked as if she never had surgery! read more

She had received no medical care following her previous veterinarian's retirement during the pandemic and my difficulty obtaining a new one due to the shortage of veterinarians accepting new patients during the past few years. We discussed Maggie's history of a chronic medical condition and her previous treatment, her current symptoms and her need to be brought up to date with her routine health care. Dr Chen listened carefully to everything I said, evaluated her needs and developed a treatment plan. I was impressed by his medical expertise and, most of all, by his ability to empathize. My girls and I made the hard decision to put our 9 year old Pug to sleep. she had a back problem and was peeing and pooping in the house for the last 6 months. Her quality of life was just not the same. Making the decision was extremely hard. I consulted the previous vet I had been taking her to for years. I should have just listened to my instincts and taken her there or had it done in our home: it has now been over a week and I really feel sick about it. The vet questioned me and asked if I had contacted a rescue, she said they can put a wheel chair on her back end. I made a few phone calls and did get in touch with a rescue. My pug was pacing the floor. She left the room for nearly 15 min. I should have left.... we do what we think is best for our animals. It is a very hard decision and one should not be made to feel guilty about!!!! Regrets other than I should have left.. I will do this procedure at home next time. I just stopped in to get a prescription which I am going to fill elsewhere since this vet is only after your money. The receptionist did not know what I was talking about (a prescription for Heartgard- super simple), and insisted for about 5 minutes she could not do that for me until a vet walked by and intervened. It took them another 5 minutes to get me the prescription. So a much shorter visit this time. I have another vet lined up, but had to cancel the appointment because I was seated on a jury. Every time I have gone here, it's like the staff does not know how to do their jobs. I can't wait to go to another vet next time. Be careful with this one!! read more

Christmas was stressful when Shiloh became lethargic and weak, on the brink of death, I called Hatton Veternarian Hospital and they immediately had an opening for Shiloh. Dr. Chen and his staff took her blood and checked her out, determination: Autoimmune Disease with few options to live at 17% red blood count! 1) transfusions @$3K or 2) intense medication - steroids. Dr. Chen patiently went over the details before I decided to do the meditation route (more affordable for me). To date, I have taken Shiloh in 4 times spending $100-$250 per visit and she is fully recovering. We are going to be slowly weaning Shiloh off the steroids beginning today! I found this vet through some coworkers after my vet retired. My first visit was for my cat who was experiencing liver issues. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a vet! They are friendly and experienced. I've been here several times and will be coming here for the foreseeable future. Pros: friendly staff, easy to book appointments (they have you come in 20 mins earlier so you have time to complete paperwork), and knowledgeable staff. The vets give lots of treats for a dog checkup, my dog really enjoyed that! The staff were very tentative to my cats (one can have mood swings) and made their experience a good one. They also provide a line by line breakdown of your bill so you can take out the services you don't want. Cons: none so far read more

The Doctor's and staff were very knowledgeable on the expectations and provide excellent service once surgery was complete and the follow-up care was excellent. Thank you to all the doctors & staff members at Hatton Veterinary for the love and support. We have been attending Hatton Veterinary for a year & we are extremely happy with all the help & knowledge we get whenever we come in. When our 11 year old dog was peeing everywhere in the house (she is trained to bark if she needs to go outside) we took her in and we found out she had a bladder infection, liver failure & horner's syndrome. They gave her the right medicine and she was back to normal in about a week. When our 4 year old Rotti had multiple seizures in 1 day. We were so scared and concerned when we took him in & they instantly helped. We ran blood tests and before taking him home, we knew we had to wait for his blood results to find out anything. They let us know the most common reasons for seizures not making us feel worried at all. Blood test came back fine and they just gave us some feedback on epilepsy seizures and how it is unknown and can be common for some dogs. Our Zilla boy has been good ever since his blood tests . We knew the time would come and unfortunately we had to put our beautiful 11 year old girl Chica down recently and it has been hard thing to come home from. We had a scheduled appointment & everyone there was just a pleasure to be around during that difficult moment. We had to force feed her the last days before we took her in and she was LOVING the chewy treats they had and 1 of the staff members gave us a handful to feed her before we had to put her down. The took us in this morning without an appointment. I was only worried about my 6 wk old puppy but between talking to them Saturday my puppy 's mama going injured and the daddy of the puppy had a real bad ear infection. I thought he had mites. They saw Dr Chen he is very knowledgeable very kind and sweet kind hearted. Help my fur babies with all their issues. My puppy was my main concern she has an auto immune disease called strangles. If not caught early it can be deadly. Thank you Dr. Chen and staff you are all awesome. You from now on be my 8 fur babies vet from now on. I highly recommend the Veterinarian Hospital. My dog is doing great. They only thing she needed was her rabies shot updated, so I book an appointment with a technician. They took her at the door and gave her back to me 5 minutes later. THEY CHARGED ME $41 for "technician exam/consultation" and also the shot. REALLY? What consultation? She was there for the shot only!! I didn't ask any questions and if she was examed I got no feedback at all!!!! If I want a consultation or an exam, I want a doctor, not a technician. I am so grateful this vet is right down the street of my house. My dad had taken my lovely dog, Naughty, here a few years back for her rabies shot and today is the first time I have been here. I had came in because I had failed to cut my girl's nails and one of them had curled into her paw and had caused a lot of swelling. I appreciate the concern of my dog's health from the doctor and I appreciate the other nurses being so nice to my Naughty and calming her down. Laura Takata is unethical to say the least!!! Both my dog and my cat have been patients here for over a year and ALL encounters with Laura Takata left me irritated and dissatisfied. She is condescending and prioritizes herself over your animals. When a question of pricing was brought up she basically threw a fit and sent a long email stating that she was canceling the future treatment for my kittens worms. HOW EXTREMELY UNETHICAL to start and not fully finish treatment, only because her feelings were offended. I strongly advise that you avoid this place if you can. The niceness of the rest of the staff does not compensate for the despicable behaviors of Laura Takata. Her license should be removed as she clearly cares more about herself then the animals she "cares for." read more

Thank you Dr. Chen for being so compassionate when we took our 13 year old Sticky buns (Shiba Inu) in because he wasn't feeling well. Hearing the diagnosis was hard (he had cancer) and you gave us time to take it all in. Our fur baby went downhill really fast after his cancer diagnosis. He went blind in both eyes, wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink water, wanted to be by himself, could barely walk, and bleeding from his nose. We had to hand feed food and water to him, it broke our hearts, our poor baby. We took him back in because he was in pain and suffering and everyone in the office was so patient with us saying goodbye to our first baby. That was so hard, I don't want to do it ever again. I've been taking my dogs to see Dr. Chen for the past 4 years, and I have always appreciated his knowledge, care, and service that he provides whenever I take my fur babies in...which has been A LOT. I have 3 rescue pit bulls who each suffer from skin allergies and infections, and it is not cheap or easy, (very emotionally draining too) and many times it can feel very discouraging wondering what I keep doing wrong for my dogs to get another allergic reaction, infection, or sickness. However, Dr. Chen has always been incredibly patient, kind, and very knowledgeable - he really knows his stuff. I have so many questions and concerns (naturally), but I always feel more assured with the information he provides. I also appreciate his transparency about the costs for things, along with his professional opinions about what is absolutely necessary (or not as urgent) in regards to treatment options, because my average bill for each trip is NOT cost friendly lol (understandably!) The only thing I will say though, is that over the past year - the Front Desk's customer service has unfortunately been a bit lacking. Wait times are a tad too long, dialogue on the phone with them can feel a bit rushed and not very welcoming, BUT I will also say is that I can tell they're are trying and eager to do their job correctly. The hospital hired a handful of new receptionists, I'm not sure any veterans remain? BUT I have continued to stay with this hospital because all of the staff are very compassionate with my dogs. Lastly - They also always give me a follow up call a week or so after I bring one of my pups in - I'm not sure that happens as consistently at other hospitals, so I appreciate this part heavily. To summarize: if you're looking for a new vet, choose Dr. Chen, and be patient with the front desk staff, they are new but they are trying and not one of them has been rude to me. I wish I could give more than 5 stars, our dog was having difficulty walking and we seen one doctor that just wanted us to do tests, he never asked us any questions as to why we were there. We decided to get a second opinion and seen Dr. Cleary with Hatton Veterinary Hospital. From the moment we walked into the office it was so welcoming and calm, the staff were so nice, they treated all pets like their own. We loved how comfortable they made our dog feel while they evaluated her. Dr. Cleary was so transparent with her treatment plan and expectations. She also didn't push any unnecessary tests that were unnecessary to her treatment. Hands down I wouldn't take our dog to anyone else. read more

My husband took our litter of 2 day old Cane Corso puppies here to get there tails docked. BIG mistake! They did a horrible job. Some of the dogs tails are cut so short they look like deer tails. I will never again take my dogs here. Sad cause I was excited to have the vet so close to the house. If you want your pups tails docked don't go here. Instead of a vet he should of been a meat butcher because that's what he did to my pups tails! read more

Some people may have good experiences with Hatton but I can't say that my friends/family has. The lack of professionalism has led to the loss of their family pet. She was a dearly loved member of their family. She needed a procedure done to potentially save her life and not only could they not get a call back but they were also misquoted. The original quote was considerably higher than the quote they were originally given, and with no explanation as to why. Then because of the delay in getting a call back they couldn't schedule the surgery until the 15th. This was an emergency situation. And to make matters worse they finally received a call back on the day their pet had to be put down. We're all extremely angry over the loss of this beautiful and dearly loved cat. It just didn't seem like they cared. I'm writing this review for our friend/family because he's too distraught to do so himself. read more

GOOD: My kitty had a weird wound... I was able to get an appointment quickly and we saw Dr. Ku. She was great! I was provided with the necessary items and instructions to care for my kitty at home and given an option for overnight care in their facility. I thought the price for that seemed reasonable but decided to care for kitty at home just in case I would need to pay for some other stuff later. Disappointing: I did schedule an unexpected follow up visit because the wound seemed to be worsening (to my untrained eye). This visit was not with Dr. Ku and I felt quite rushed by the other Dr. we saw... I could only assume that it was because it was an appointment squeezed into the day. But, just the same I felt rushed and I had questions and concerns. I brought a friend with me that day and she even commented - "are they always rushing their patients like this?" GOOD: We returned for one last visit to check the wound and Dr. Ku was great, AGAIN!
