Also they have a homemade ice cream cafe in the rear of the store called Bigfoot's Ice Cream Shack (formerly Bubba's). All ice cream is made in house with unique flavors such as strawberry cheesecake, pistachio almond, peachy peach, southern blackberry cobbler, orange swirl and many more. There's option from cups, waffle cones, shakes and sundaes. I try their southern blackberry cobbler, peachy peach and salted caramel brownie. They all have their own unique flavors but the blackberry cobbler was creamy, smooth and delicious. All their staff are amazingly friendly, knowledgeable and patient. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely make another visit to get some gifts since holidays are approaching and can't leave until I try other flavors of their homemade treats. The staff were so helpful and patient in taking off the price tags and wrapping them in packing paper for me. We started with iced teas (they also offer beers, wine, and champagne). For entrees, we ordered the spinach salad with salmon and pecans as well as the ham and spinach quiche with the southern pea salad. The pea salad contained peas, corn, pimento, and shredded cheddar cheese -- quite unique and very good. My husband can't stop raving about it. We really enjoyed our meals. All food is made in house. See photos. Service is prompt and friendly. You pay at the final checkout up front so you can pay for food and any shop purchases together. Bring cash for your tip, as their receipts don't include a line for a gratuity since they are primarily a shop. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday for lunch until 3 p.m.

It's right across from William & Mary, so you get this great mix of college town and Colonial Williamsburg. When we were there, a man was playing trombone in the square, people were sitting outside, and the whole area just had a wonderful atmosphere. It was super hot outside, but I still loved walking around. Definitely worth spending some time here rather than just passing through. Grab something cold, find a shady seat, browse the shops, and enjoy the ambiance. One of my favorite areas in Williamsburg.

Recently I had the opportunity to visit the square that's nestled between The College of William & Mary and Colonial Williamsburg. During Christmas is one of my favorite times to visit this area. It was hoping too! Crowds were beginning to arrive in Williamsburg for The Grand Illumination the next day. There was music, and a Christmas spirit in the cool crisp air. I visited a few shops that I had time for that were both favorites and new to me. The Cheese Shop for a snack. This shop has been a place I have frequented for decades, it's awesome and an independent run store like most others. I went to R. Bryant, a men's store. Lulu lemon, Danforth Pewter and a new shop Walkabout Outfitters which is a small chain. It replaced a very well known and established independent store I shopped since early 2000. If you're looking for a unique place to shop, eat and also take in a show at the Kimball Theater then Merchants is the place.

Like many things at Colonial Williamsburg, the bookstore is unfortunately less refined and more…read moretouristy than it was years ago, but I think that's a reflection on the visitors and their tastes and Williamsburg's attempts to adapt to what people will buy. The book sections are smaller than they were, the video and music section is gone, and they've moved some of the food stuffs and home decorations from across the hall to fill the space. Still, there is a good selection of books on relevant history from Jamestown through the Civil War, decorative arts, architecture, trades and crafts, cooking and military history for the serious historian; and of course books on Williamsburg itself. Check out the bargain table for good deals on close out items.
