I've had to really positive experiences for far with Haute and have been so impressed by the owners' professionalism. My first experience, I dropped by the shop to feel it out. I'm not sure if I got lucky, because on the website it says you can schedule an appointment and I can understand why because the space is small. (Mostly just a counter and then whoever is working can help you based on what you're looking for.) The shop smells so good by the way - clean, with the most fragrant candle scents. My first order I just picked up in the shop but my second order I placed online. As it turns out, they were waiting for a delivery that would arrive in about 10 days for my purchase. On that date, I was wondering if my bundles had arrived and before I even had a chance to check the owner gave me a call to update me that the shipment had been delayed but that she will give me an update on the Friday before my appointment (which was the following week) so that she could help me plan. Like clockwork, she gave me a call that Friday and then again the Monday when my order actually arrived. She was kind enough to also have my order Ubered to the salon for convenience, and as so professional and communicative every step of the way. When someone's words align with their actions consistently, it builds trust and that's been my experience so far with the business. The owner even texted me to update me when my original desired order was back in stock - now that is customer service. I'll definitely continue to support! read more

I've supported this company for a long time as I trusted their quality and good business ethics. I purchased two bundles of hair - the higher priced. My stylist highlighted them and only 1 shedded like crazy!!!!!! I called and show proof as that has never happened with them - ever. The feedback is appalling as they stated they can't commit that the hair hasn't been previously colored... but they sold me virgin hair for $188 per bundle!!!?!? Wow! My stylist has died my hair for years and their hair... no issues..... they stated all sales are final. This is not normal - I'm at a sola salon with several women stylists and they are appalled. They all said it's low grade hair and they claimed my stylist who does this everyday didn't know to color hair. read more

I don't often write reviews, but I had to share my AMAZING experience with Haute Hair DC. They currently accept bookings by appointments only, so they can follow COVID regulations. It was easy to set up an appointment online, and I was seen the next day. The location is convenient (near public transportation), as well as it is easy to find parking. The salon is clean and welcoming. Initially, I met with Okera, a certified Trichologist, who explained the science of hair, explained hair loss, and then provided me with a haircare routine to follow while wearing a wig. I was impressed by his knowledge and was excited to learn that Haute Hair is there to assist with all and any questions regarding proper hair care underneath a wig. He then showed me a variety of styles, colors, textures and lengths, and let me know that if I had something else in mind, then they would order something for me. After picking out a wig, I made an appointment to have it fitted. My appointment was with Cheva, who is personable, warm and very knowledgeable. Since I chose a lace front wig, I needed the hairline plucked and the edges trimmed. She also braided my hair down prior to the install. She not only made me feel comfortable, but she walked me through the steps of caring for and maintaining the wig. It was more than a fitting, she gave me a wonderful experience. She allowed me to ask all the questions I had, and since it was just the two of us in the store, it felt very intimate. Mia, the owner came by to say hello, which made me feel valued as a client. The wig is soft, realistic and worth the investment. Since I don't have much experience with wigs, the fitting left me feeling confident, and comfortable because it does not need to be glued down. This makes it easy to put on, without having to do anything to it. Between Cheva, Mia and Okera, I would rank it as my favorite hair experience. I definitely will return. I've been getting hair from Haute hair since they they opened up in dc and I love the quality and the service that I've gotten so far. They've always been able to work with me when I need a last minute order--even in the pandemic. The only thing I wish they sold was circle closures because I wear my sew-ins with bangs. I have never been one to wear wigs..too shiny ...too wiggy...too hot!...too tight on the scalp ...too fake looking...etc etc ...UNTIL NOW!! My experience at Haute Hair changed my mind. Owners Mia & Okera took excellent care of me especially knowing how I was hesitate but wanted to get a quality unit. They had their stylist and wig maker, Cheva walk me through not only how to wear and style it but also how to keep it clean and in 'like new' condition. I purchased a curly style lace front that you can straighten...and HONEY! I'm in love. Once I got over my fear of using a styling glue that Cheva suggested (always afraid the lace would show and my own edges would get damaged) I am out here rocking this unit very confidently. It's soft, flows and moves nicely. I've washed it 5-6 times since purchasing and it looks brand new each time. You get what you pay for...spend a lil more on a quality unit...it's worth it. ******BUYER BEWARE ****** ******DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY***** I purchased a $1500 hair unit from this company in April 2017 to wear to Civil Rights Leader/Ambassador Andrew Young's celebration in Atlanta. It is now November and I have not received a unit, a refund nor a call from the Owners. My experience with Haute Hair has been absolutely deplorable. Here are the facts: * I traveled six hours to DC to get the unit cut/colored. Their stylist showed up 1 hour late and did not have any product nor tools to color the unit. She said the owners did not tell her she had to color the hair. They walked to CVS and borrowed products from other stylists. Needless to say, it was over 2 hours before they started on the unit. * NOTE: Before she started on the unit, I informed the owners that the unit did not look like what I ordered. The curl pattern was totally wrong. They assured me that I would be satisfied with the final product. I should have trusted my gut. * After six hours in that salon, their stylist could not achieve the proper curl pattern and put setting lotion on the hair which made it very hard. I was totally disgusted and left the salon. * I was asked to come back to the salon the following day and the Stylist washed/conditioned it. In the end, the unit was still a hot mess and the units cap was so stretched and no longer fit my head. * By this time, I was so done with the level of unprofessionalism and their inability to deliver what I paid $1500 for. * I contacted Mia in July. To date, the owners have not called me back. The way you treat people in business dealings speaks volumes to who you are at your core...deceitful, dishonest, in the business of ripping honest people off. The service never got off the ground. I cannot speak to their customer service or product. This is to save time for people looking to use their Rx services if in-network vs out-of-network costs are of concern. Having followed the steps listed on the Haute Hair website, I got the written prescription from my oncologist. When presented to my insurance company, they needed information on the company in order to grant me a "gap exception" as there was no in-network provider in my area. I explained this to the employee who answered the phone. They called the owner to get the information I needed because she didn't have it. She called me back to tell me the owner said that I only needed to give the insurance company the receipt and that they didn't deal with insurance. While I appreciate how quickly she got back to me, if all I had to do was submit a receipt, I wouldn't have wasted two days on phone calls with my doctor and insurance company. Heck, all I needed was their address and Tax ID. I was doing all the work, they didn't even have to deal with insurance. When your health is already less than stellar, and you're working to find a bit of normalcy in the crazy, it's just easier when you can get as much factual information up front as possible. They may work wonders if you have insurance coverage that will just take a receipt or money is no object. If you have insurance like what my company of over 200K employees has, keep researching. read more

If I couldn't give any stars I wouldn't this place is black owned and as a black owner myself of so many businesses, this place is very disappointing. It took a lot for me to come to yelp about this place, but I feel it's only fair to give a real review and not one that was given off of friendship. I have given this place so many chances over and over again and every other time there is an issue. The hair you order isn't consistent ...one purchase can be perfect and when you come back to order again the hair is totally different from the last texture or style. Not to mention they will give you totally different hair then what you order and when you call them out about hair being different then the pictures on the site, they have a bunch of excuses (like each curl pattern is different). I been wearing weave my whole life you think I don't know hair and I'm a master stylist. Last time I ordered it was Indian tight curl. I will share pics below. Amazing customer service. I recently moved to the area and the staff and owner were extremely accommodating and informative. First time I'm getting my hairs done in years so I needed extra attention when it came to picking out extensions. The length I wanted wasn't available when I went to the store but the owner called me back in less than 24 hours informing me that he had the length and texture I wanted but they were out of the day before. I have been wearing Haute hair going on almost 5 years. I love this hair. EVERY TIME I try to be frugal and buy other hair, I'm disappointed. First and foremost the quality in not comparable to any other hair in the area. To me it is THE BEST. The owner is very professional and their customer service is one of a kind. If you take good care of your hair it will last 2 years or more. The owner is extremely knowledgeable of his product. He will explain each type of hair to you thoroughly. I have been a customer of this business for 4-5 years. Recently, I went in to purchase a bundle of hair and took it to my stylist for highlights as I always do. She immediately called me back to say the hair wouldn't lift (in other words, the color wouldn't take). I called Haute Hair to let them know they may have sold me a bad batch. They were defiant as if this were impossible and asked to speak to my stylist directly. No problem, I gave them her number to discuss. They later called me back to offer 15% off of another purchase (no apology, no offer to replace it considering I've been a customer for years, nothing). Why on earth would I give you more of my money and risk the same problem happening when you clearly have a quality control issue? To make matters worse, when I talked to my stylist she said she never even received a call from them after they insisted on speaking with her directly. EDIT: Please also know that the owner of this company (the husband) called my phone in an attempt to "rectify" the issue by offering me complementary bundles, but failed to realize that I am NO longer interested in leveraging this company for my hair extension needs. Our conversation consisted of him raving about the quality of his hair and minimizing my poor experience (even after I highlighted the fact a previous reviewer posted a comment referencing the very same shedding issue). He explicitly said as I was ending the call, "You sound like a man anyway" after I vehemently declined his offers to accept the new hair and edit my review (how juvenile can you POSSIBLY be). As a business owner, it is your responsibility to understand that you can not please each and every customer. It is also important to understand that if you're sincerely interested in rectifying an issue, you center the CUSTOMER and not YOURSELF. I've made a personal decision to just chalk it up as a LOSS and move on from the situation. After reading the mostly positive Yelp reviews about the hair quality, I spontaneously decided to give Haute Hair a try and eagerly purchased 2 Burmese bundles 16/18 inches in length with hope that I would be just as satisfied as the previous customers. Unfortunately, I'm not impressed. I've only had the hair installed for 4 days and it is shedding uncontrollably. I'm a believer that all hair sheds, but I specifically purchased this Virgin hair with the expectation that the shedding would very minimal (especially if it retails at nearly $250 for 2 bundles and Miss USA rocks it). I'm now making plans to condition it and graze the tips with pure Argan oil to halt the shedding for now. This hair may be the same quality as the Chinese retailers on AliExpress, Mayven Hair and/or the discounted Her Imports bundles. I sincerely don't see the difference. They were very nice and very knowledgeable as well as patient with me since I was indecisive of what I wanted and they guided me through the process. Also, to date, the hair seems to be quality. If I could give no stars I would. I went here because people in Google had written how helpful they were with customers that didn't have experience. This was my first time buying hair so this made me feel more comfortable. The reviews couldn't have been more misleading. Yes it was a nice, welcoming, friendly environment - to deceive you from the fact that you're about to get ripped off. I was very clear about what I would be using the hair for. I have very short hair and I wanted two long French braids. The lady, who I believe was the owner (Mia), sold me clip in hair that is used for weave. The hair was also nowhere near my blonde color but I didn't care because I figured I would just dye it lighter to match. I got to the salon where I was getting my hair done and the lady said she could not use it for anything. She also said there's no way the woman who sold it to me DIDN'T know this. I hate to say it but I feel as though both my inexperience and my race (I am Caucasian) were blatantly used against me. So $314 later (WITH A "DEAL") and a "no return policy", it was not a good experience to say the least PS It was my birthday and she knew this. Money definitely could have been put to better use. Went to Haute hair back in June for my wedding. Upon entering I was very impressed, and staff was very professional. Heard about this place, but never really got around to it, so I thought my wedding will be the perfect time. I told them the occasion, and they offer me a glass of champagne to celebrate....:) talking about the style, I just showed them exactly what I wanted and they show me two different types of hair that would give me the look I was trying to achieve. I can honestly say the staff took time answering every question and details about the hair. Malaysian hair was for me, love it.... The manager and owner are incredibly intelligible and provided a personal consultation on hair recommendations, partner salons and techniques for protecting my hair. They have a ton of hair options and also offer clips-ins and other customizations. The shop is very high-end with a buzz in door to ensure privacy and intimacy. Additionally, they have a charity program for military women in need of hair. It really doesn't get more sophisticated than this! I'll definitely be back! read more

I have to agree with the previous reviewer. I purchased Malaysian hair for my wedding, and worked with the owner as well as Maya. I arrived on May 12th to pick up the hair, however it was completely the wrong color (I requested and paid for the hair be dyed). I needed the hair ready on the following day as I had a bridal hair appointment with my stylist. I had to cancel and reschedule for May 16th. The owner ended up meeting me (an hour late) at my appointment with the hair, and insisted I would be refunded, but have still not seen my money back. The odd hours and un-professionalism is what is keeping this shop from more stars (and I imagine more customers). When they get these things in order, I'm sure they'll be more successful. If you're just looking for hair, the quality is great. If you're looking for something more complex, maybe think of going someplace else. read more
