Bought a hair straightener flatiron along with multiple other items for around $140. The flatiron happened to be unsatisfactory in terms of the quality of the hair pads (it was rougher than expected). We only realized this once we brought it back and unpacked it. We went back in the next day and wanted to return it. The staff was pretty rude and did not entertain the idea at all even though it was bought less than 24 hours ago. Please be aware of EVERYTHING you buy from this store. You need to make sure it works exactly as you expect otherwise you can forget about being able to return items back. This beauty is convenient if you live in the area but it isn't worth traveling to. The supply is basic and they don't carry new trends. They associates are not very social or helpful but that's what you get when you cross cultures and open a black beauty supply store. Now matter how many times I would go there they nevered remembered my face and were always acting like I was going to steal. Now as far as their nail shop, I took my 18yr cousin to get her eyebrows done for the first time. She just wanted them cleaned up but wanted a thick nicely groomed brow. Apparently there is only one shape they can do....a thin pencil curve (the basic Asian eyebrow). She basically cried. There was nothing to do to add her hair back. This place is horrible they don't clean the pedicure bowl if they dont use the plastic to cover , the rinse the bowels they eat out in the pedicure bowl, they dont use sterilized tools and they dont spray them with anything and they use these for everybody, they use the same sponge between everybody toes, they dont wipe the chairs down, i have not seen nobody wash their hand even when you remove the gloves they still touch feet, hands and eat and they dont wash their hands. Doing eyebrows and eyelashes dont wash their hands its Very dusty its just a big health hazard, the men do great work. This is the BEST beauty supply store in DC. They have EVERYTHING that you could possibly want and they even have a salon and a nail shop in the back. WhileI do think the nail salon is a little sketchy (you have to make sure they actually clean the pedicure bath), it is pretty inexpensive. They have every hair product, every type of weave, and every type of wig that you can ever need. LOL. They also have lace front wigs in a seperate section to the side, and the lady back there will even cut it and apply it for you. They have never not had anything that I needed. read more

Most of the techs are rude when it comes to satisfying the customer, lazy, and I've heard the word "nigga" subliminally thrown around one day after a woman was displeased behind her finger being cut! They are sloppy and dirty *again* to say the least!!! I've gotten my nails done here 3x out of convenience. Mind you I've seen roaches have a field day where you wash your hands! Oxy-moron right?? Judy's is the ish. When every other beauty supply store is closed Judy's is open. They sell just about everything and they have lots and lots of hair. Personally i think the prices are way too high on the hair. If you are a Diva on a budget this place isnt for you. The employees are nice but they usually cant answer questions about products and hair. Other than that this place has everything including a nail salon in the back. (Who the heck does that?) We have been customers here because we live and work in the neighbourhood. It's convenient. We've been customers since they were located next to Forman Mills years ago. At this new location, we felt on more than one occasion that we were followed around while shopping but tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. This evening our 16 year old biked over to pick up some hair colour. BTW, this business is listed on Google as closing at 9 PM. Even if currently closing at 8pm, our daughter got there at 7:49 PM. From the moment she entered they were harsh with her. As she called me to transfer money to her bank card, I could hear a gentleman in the background loudly saying "We didn't have to let you in here. You meed to hurry up and pay and leave". Our daughter said, "Sorry, my mom is transferring money to me. Please hold on a sec". He replied, "You don't have to talk back". It was 8:03when he was yelling. She paid and left by 8:05. I think we all have enough to deal with considering world events. We don't need to pay to be in an unfriendly shop. We say this as business owners ourselves who pride ourselves on customer service. We know what it is to want to go home at the end of a workday BUT no one can ever say that we treated them with this level of disrespect. This is one of those places I stumbled upon when I was looking for another store and made a mental note to come back. What I like about Judy's is the wide selection of products and how cheap they are. Anything hair care or beauty related can be found here. All of my favorite brands and lots of other crap (yes, crap) too! This isn't the sort of place I would go for a service, or even ask their opinion on a product. Judy's is so convenient for me, it's just one quick metro stop from my house and BOOM im there. they have an array of different types of hair and other things although i do wish they had a bit more options for the chrochet hair girls. the only thing i would say is they are a little pricey,but not too much. At this store, the employees are always very nice and helpful when I ask about certain products and dyes for my hair. This store has a broad selection of products that it's quite hard for me to choose just one without rotating. When I looked in the Wal-Mart in Chinatown for the 40 volume bleach they d didn't have it. I looked here and they had all the volumes, and the enhancers. I've never been to the salon part, nor do I plan on going since I do my hair myself. It may be good for other people, though. The prices are also within my budget unlike some other places that have little to no real selection, but want an arm and a leg for their products. read more

I have purchased electric nail file system "KISS" and after trying it at home, and not being able to use it, went to the store to return it. I was told to read the sign that electric items are not returnable. I said fine, but this product does not do the job as advertised, so the owner of the store told me to press harder!! . I completely agree with the previous posts....go here and know what you want b/c they are not there to entertain. Just sell. Which really sucks b/c I saw this guy rubbing some oils on an Asian womans arm and in their native language describe the product (I'm guessing) as he rub it in. I went into the store to get hair and couldn't find the same type I had purchased previously. Upon asking for help I discovered when I returned home it was not what I intended to purchase. The hair is tied together with small plastic ties and in a net. No nets were broken or ties broken. The manager pretended to not understand and asked his employee if I could return the hair. He was hostile and demeaning acting as though I was stupid. I used to love their nail salon because I could shop in it and get my nails done. Last week I went to get a manicure and pedicure and Tina did my feet. When she finished polishing them she got up went to another customer who's feet she did, took the toe separaters off her feet sat down and tried to put them on my feet! Hell no!! I moved my feet so fast and told her she is nasty for that. She had to get a new pack of course but she angrily threw the used ones away. Nina, the other employee finished my designs for me because Tina was nasty.. They gave me a $5 discount... Obviously didnt fix my experience.. For the nails. Took back an unopened hair piece, tag still on it, wrong color and wanted to exchange and was not allowed to. Store needs to post their return policy at the register and reemphasize at checkout their policy. Why is it the Asian store owners never like to exchange items and yet we are they one's making them rich. This same situation happened with a battery for a computer purchase I made. I go here sometimes but I also happened to go yesterday afternoon. I went to pick up another bonnet and to also get my eyebrows done. The people are very nice and also helpful when needed. They greet you as soon as you come through the door. But when I got my eyebrows done I ended up feeling basic yet clean.....I don't normally go here to get them done and I ended up plucking a few hairs when I got home but nothing major. Plus it's $2 less than what I normally pay. At the end of the day I was pretty much satisfied regardless of how basic I was feeling. I just wish I came out feeling myself lol.
