Love this brunch place. For a span of several months last year, we had a recurring pattern where…read morewe would eat at Willow and Whisk, and while seated at our table enjoying our amazing food, we would make our next reservation to dine again at Willow and Whisk two months later. (Reservations are not that easy to make last minute.) The restaurant is big and open but always busy. Kids get wax craft sticks to play with and bend into cool shapes, which I find very unique and cool. I feel like there is a difference between a diner and a true brunch place. A diner, of which there are numerous in New Jersey, is a establishment that churns out inexpensive, and potentially excellent, but very standard breakfast food - omelettes, pancakes, benedicts and the like. A true brunch place, on the other hand, offers things like lemon ricotta pancakes, cacio e pepe scrambles, mushroom thyme omelettes and shakshuka. Willow & Whisk is that kind of brunch place, and which is rare in New Jersey. The food options are varied, very tasty, and with good portion sizes. I love the shakshuka and the mushroom thyme omelette. Oh gosh, when is our next reservation again?

The restaurant is on a corner with large…read morewindows, so there's plenty of natural light, making it a really nice place to relax or catch up with friends. The highlight was definitely the Stuffed French Toast. It looked beautiful, and I expected it to be overly sweet, but it was surprisingly well balanced. The toast was soft with a slightly crispy exterior, and the cream cheese filling paired really well with the strawberry compote. We also ordered the BLT+. The smoked bacon was delicious, but the focaccia was a little too thin and hard, making it harder to eat than I expected. The house-made sausage was good, just not particularly memorable. As for the coffee, it was probably the most disappointing part of the meal. The latte wasn't very smooth, and the cold brew had a slight off taste. They were both drinkable, just not something I'd order again. Overall, I'd recommend this place for the food and the atmosphere, especially if you're interested in the French toast. There's also parking behind the restaurant, which makes visiting easy.

They have a program to text when your table was ready, so we went for a walk in the neighborhood while we waited. A surprisingly short time later, we received the text that our table was ready! The menu(s) had a wonderful selection of food and drinks, along with some specials. They do use a QR code for their menus, but noticed they also had paper menus upon request. Our server was friendly and attentive. The other members of staff would also check in as they passed by. My boyfriend enjoyed the PB & J Latte along with the creole shrimp Benedict. He said it was seasoned well, right level of spice, stated the eggs were poached perfectly, and really enjoyed how moist the cornbread was. I indulged with the "Tipsy Palmer" which is an Arnold Palmer with Bourbon in it. To be honest, there wasn't much of a bourbon taste to it, if any at all, but for a summer brunch drink, it was refreshing. For my entree, I chose the chicken Caesar sliders. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed as the brioche buns seemed a little on the stale/stiff side. The homemade caesar dressing was delicious, but they only coated the lettuce in it which resulted in a bit of a dry slider. I believe the sliders would benefit from a bit of the dressing at least on the bottom of the bun. I asked for (and received) a side of the dressing to bring home to dress up my remaining sliders. Lastly, and I know this is extremely minor, but the silverware was placed incorrectly (knife and fork reversed with the knife edge in the wrong direction). Again, I am WELL AWARE this is minor, but for me, sometimes the minor details are the things that stand out. Overall, a wonderful experience and will try them again at a later date.

The food was fresh (how did they find a flawless avocado in the middle of winter???) and the flavors delicious. The service was outstanding -- weekend brunch was packed, and they put your name on a list in case you want to walk around town while you're waiting. Don't go too far, because somehow they're able to move the tables without making folks feel rushed. Each person we encountered -- the host, the folks at the counter, our server -- was nicer than the last. I got a bowl that had slightly cooked spinach, poached eggs, sweet potatoes and that GOHgeous avocado I mentioned above. One thing I really liked about this bowl is that it didn't have rice in it -- something that would've made it too overwhelming. This was the perfect combo and portion size. Someone else in our small group got the avocado toast (more avocado!!) and also said it was excellent. Definitely plan to return!

After our visit, we decided to walk around town. There were a lot of restaurants open, but they mostly empty. The Breakfast & Burger Club seemed to be really busy. That being said, I figured it must be a good place to eat. We sat down at a table in the restaurant. The server came over with menus and water. We decided to share a Chicken Cobb Wrap along with a Root beer. The IBC Root beer was good. Anyway, it took a very long time for our order to come out. While we were waiting for the food, I noticed a strong smell of cooking oil. The server kept apologizing for the wait. The order finally came out. We were so starving at that point. The wrap tasted very dry, so unlike any Cobb salad. There was no avocado, no bacon etc... In addition, the fries were soggy and cold. I took a good look at the wrap and it had to be a Chicken Caesar wrap. My bf thought the same thing. There was no sense in sending it back, since we already ate some of it. We were charged for a Cobb salad wrap $17.45. However, the Caesar wrap was the same price, so we didn't bother saying anything. The male server and root beer were the restaurant's only highlights. Street parking is available.

The restaurant is nicely decorated and the hard working staff were non-stop, satisfying the fully-commited attendance. Thank goodness that I made reservations, which I highly suggest, or else you're going to probably have a double digit wait time. I was very impressed with the serving sizes and the freshness of their ingredients. I also appreciated how they placed the salad that accompanied my omelet in a separate bowl. The entrees were: Truffle Infused Wild Mushroom Omelette (wild mushrooms, shaved parmesan, roasted potato hash, and a side salad). Every bite was filled with every ingredient and this item is highly recommended. Whiskey Burger (8 Oz. beef patty, double cut bacon, apple jack barbecue sauce, sharp cheddar cheese, pickle, caramelized onions). This burger was juicy, throughout, and the sweet potato fries side was heavenly salty. The last entree was the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes (whipped ricotta, lemon zest, fresh fruit and berries). Theses pancakes were t.h.i.c.k. and the fruit was plentiful. I also ordered an Apple and Pear Salad for takeout and it was AMAZING! It was large enough for two servings and the vinaigrette dressing was exquisite. Morning Bloom will be a top choice, going forward, and.....btw, after you're done with your meal, you could stroll through Allendale's many Main Street businesses.
