So this was a mixed bag for us. If my husband had his way he'd give it 3 stars, and that will make sense in a minute. Overall, the atmosphere was lovely, the waitress was friendly and the food was good. Was it the most amazing Cuban food we've had? Absolutely not. The pork appetizer, Masitas de Cerdo, we had was the highlight. It was delicious. We were hoping it was a sign of good things to come. Unfortunately, the Vaca Frita my husband had he didn't like at all. There was a flavor to it that was almost like Cuban mixed with barbecue. I had the Mojito Chicken and it was good. Not amazing, but good flavor. My husband had some of my chicken because he thought the Vaca Frita was inedible. Now, I don't think it was that bad. However, his mom is Cuban so we have authentic Cuban food regularly, and none of these dishes tasted authentic. Expectations are everything, and had this been Cuban-Something fusion, maybe the outcome would be different. Came here for my birthday and had the best time! It was the exact vibe and experience I was hoping for - fun, vibrant, with delicious food and drinks. It was a bit too hot to sit outside on the deck overlooking the lake, but I will definitely make that a priority next time! I would recommend this spot to anyone. I tried the arroz con pollo with a side of plantains, and had a Paloma for my cocktail! The food was delicious but I think it would try a different drink next time. I like that they don't make the drinks too sweet I think I was hoping for just a little more punch of lime! Gorgeous presentation on food and drinks. The service was also very strong, we never had to ask for refills on our waters, it was very consistent from multiple waiters. And our food came out super quickly - we were a party of 9 and were there right at 6 and everything was so smooth and quick. One quick note- the restaurant knew we were celebrating a birthday because it was part of the reservation, but there wasn't anything special done like a complimentary dessert or them even saying "happy birthday!" This obviously isn't a huge deal but I think it's best practice that if you ask the guests if you're celebrating anything special you then... I don't know, provide a little something?? Great little spot that's easy to miss. It. Looks like it's part of the apartment complex once inside. It's a beautifully decorated dining room with a nice deck facing the lake. I had the Ropa Vijas which was delicious shredded beef and a rich, tomato sauce, peppers, onions, spices. Perfectly cooked rice and amazing black beans, perfectly cooked plantains. I also had a very good Mojito. I date had pasta la Havana both of them. She said we're very good. This is definitely a place I would go back to the Cuban. Unfortunately, our dining experience at Havana 33 this past Sunday didn't get off to a good start. Upon our entry into the restaurant, the hostess's interaction with us was disappointing. She didn't greet us with a pleasant welcome or smile, nor did she set the tone for an enjoyable dining experience. It felt like we were putting her out by asking to be seated. As we left she seemed more interested in her smart phone than thanking us for dining at the restaurant. She clearly needs a tune-up or reorientation from management. A fantastic little on the water place to have a few drinks and some great food! I am not terribly familiar with Cuban food and to be honest I really didn't enjoy it but that is not their fault. Just not my taste. My wife and our companions absolutely raved about the food! I very much enjoyed having a few drinks with friends in such a beautiful setting. I've been here twice. The first time I ordered the sample platter, it was amazing. The second time I ordered the sample platter again and it was a flop. Portions were significantly smaller and the ham croquetas were very disappointing. They definitely changed the way they made them. The ham in the croqueta was hard and tasted old and everything else did not taste like it was freshly fried and crispy. On the other hand, I ordered a cheeseburger, and that was amazing... I'm hoping to give it another shot one day, but it's not my first choice. The restaurant itself is very clean, service is very friendly and if you get the opportunity to sit outside on the patio, you will not be disappointed. My husband ordered a cocktail with "wicked" in the name (wish I could remember the full title), and he loved it. Next up was the appetizer sampler, and every single item on that plate was devoured. Everything was packed with flavor, and their spicy ketchup? Actually spicy. So good. We went for a second round of drinks: I had the white sangria, which was light, fruity, and dangerously smooth--you couldn't even taste the alcohol. Went around 5:15 pm for dinner on a Wednesday, and there was a total of six in the restaurant (including myself). Was told to sit wherever I wanted so I went away from everyone else. Given a menu as soon as I sat down. 10 minutes later, I had to get up and go back to the hostess at the front door to ask if I could order. Seems the waitress forgot that I was there. Stopped by Havana in Mooresville on a Saturday at 11:30 AM, right as they opened, and we were seated immediately--always a great start. The space is clean, elegant, and has an island-inspired feel. The menu is small but well-thought-out, focusing on Cuban-inspired dishes. We tried the French toast with scrambled eggs, the pastry platter, and the frittata. The pastry platter was decent, offering four different options, but nothing that really stood out. (A Cuban-inspired cast iron cornbread with guava jelly? Now that would've been a game-changer!) That said, the main dishes were solid, with great portions--plenty to take home. Service was great--attentive and knowledgeable. My favorite thing about this restaurant is the vibe. It's authentic--there is Cuban music playing and the decor fits. The whole vibe is just Cuba. It wasn't nice out so we had to sit inside, but there is patio seating on the lake for when it's nice out. The Chicken and Rice was tasty. I did, however, learn that I don't like sweet plantains. This isn't the fault of Havana 33 or any Cubans anywhere. Also, I don't like beans so the sides just didn't do it for me and the primary reason for the 4. If you enjoy paying $17 to assemble your own sad sandwich, Havana 33 is ready to crush your spirit. I ordered a chicken sandwich with tomato and crispy potatoes. What I received was a dry, half-hearted mess: limp fries pretending to be "krispy," a single lonely cherry tomato slice, and a sandwich so empty it looked like it had been mugged. When we politely let the waitress know we were dissatisfied, instead of fixing the mistake, she brought out a handful of loose cherry tomatoes and more of the same cheap, soggy fries, as if we were supposed to play Build-A-Sandwich at our own table. For $17, I was expecting a meal--not a sad arts and crafts project. The mystery green sauce on the side looked like it had been siphoned out of a weed whacker, and the whole experience had the same love and care you'd expect from a vending machine that just stole your money. We came in today after driving 30 minutes to go to our fave oyster spot, but it was such a long wait thst we said screw it & went to the place next door- LUCKY FOR US - IT ENDED UP BECOMING A QUICK FAVORITE OF OURS! Met up with some folks for lunch at Havana 33 and really loved all the food we ordered. We tried the Cuban chips - these came with a delicious, creamy dip filled with chicken, spinach and cheese. This was so tasty I could have just eaten this. We also tried a Cuban taco - filled with shredded beef and pickled onions. YUM! We had heard rave reviews over the Cuban sandwich. Now I'm used to a Cuban sandwich from Miami and the bread is really key to making this. Havana 33 apparently gets the Cuban bread shipped from Florida and it really was fresh and tasty. The sandwich lived up to the hype. This came with fry's which were addicting. They also give you a small cup of mojito - and I loved adding this to my sandwich. I tried the Toston Benedict Ropa Vieja. An interesting and delicious Cuban-inspired take on eggs benedict. A generous portion of ropa vieja is served atop fried green plantain (instead of an english muffin), adorned with ham, swiss cheese and a pair of perfectly poached eggs. The ropa vieja is butter-tender and lusciously spiced. The earthy plantain adds a nice enhancement to the meat. Ham and swiss lend a cuban-sandwich vibe to the whole thing. And then the eggs to fulfil the benefict vibe. I really enjoyed this one! A brunch staple (at least for me) is the bloody mary. The brunch bloody mary here doesn't disappoint. Just spicy enough to tickle the taste buds. Yum! Also tried (just a bite) of the Montecrisco. Another Cuban-inspired take on the NJ Diner classic. This Montecristo is built atop challah french toast. Ham and Cheese is piled on, slathered in guava syrup. Would have preferred the guava on the side, it was a little too sweet. Still - an excellent dish. Havana33 is on our short list for places to eat, and my husband and I go at least once a month. They have very reasonable prices, excellent service, and delicious food. We usually start with their Camerones Al Ajillo, which are always cooked perfectly and have a fantastic sauce. For our entrees, we often rotate between the Vaca Frita, Masa Frita, Havana 33 Special sandwich, Octopus, and the Cuban Tacos. I tried the octopus appetizer that they offered over the summer, and was excited they added both an appetizer and entree version to their regular menu. Since I have a lighter appetite, the Cuban tacos have been my favorite of late. We've tried several of their cocktails, and my favorite is the Cucumber Spritz. It tastes like a mojito, but with gin and very little added sugar. It's very refreshing! I like that they are open during the day on weekends so we can grab an early bite. Regardless of when we go, service has always been superb. I'm already thinking of what to get at our next visit! read more

It is pretty spacious so it would be great for big groups. The presentation of the food is pretty, especially the Croquetas de jamon. It was also very delicious. Just to step in the door, the decor is so Cuban! Beautifully decorated to showcase the Cuban culture and you immediately smell deliciousness! It was a beautiful day, we opted to be seated outside. We were led through the restaurant out the back, past the bar. The view is so relaxing, overlooking Lake Norman. Ceci greeted us with warmth and answered any questions about the menu. I really had a hard time deciding what to order because so many items' descriptions had my mouth watering. I chose to start with the calamari. FANTASTIC!! It was flash fried just like I cook it. The batter was light and seasoned perfectly. The way Ceci described the red snapper entree, there was no way I was choosing anything else! It was just as she described & tasted amazing!! Hubby chose the grilled chicken sandwich (like he likes it) & he said it was very flavorful. Our son chose the vaca frita with tostones. I tasted that and it was on point!
