I came in here today with my husband. We've both walked by this place many times and never realized it's there. Which kind of annoys me now. Lol. But I'm so glad we found it. When we walked in there was a man and woman working. They appeared to be husband and wife, and I would presume the owners of the restaurant. They immediately greeted us and handed us menus. I ordered Andy's Cuban Original, and my husband ordered the La Medianoche, and two drinks. After ordering, there was a spare menu on the table, so we took the time to actively read the entire thing while we waited. My husband and I both found more we wanted to come back and try later. Once we ordered our food, I'm presuming Andy, as the menu names him, asked that if we had any issues with our food to let him know so he had the opportunity to make it right. Which when something isn't perfect, every business owner says, you should have said something. But they don't always seem approachable. But Andy was, and that tells me he loves and cares about his restaurant and customers leaving happy. Which I respect so much. Our food arrives and we dig in. I'm no expert on the authenticity of Cuban food, I'll be the first to admit. But it tasted amazing. The pork was flavorful and fall apart tender. My husband and I both agreed on the bread being what really made it. That pressing creates the crust and texture, which is absolutely necessary, and made me want to keep eating. The potato sticks took me back to my childhood, so that was a fun nostalgic moment. While we were eating, Andy brought out a sauce to dip our sandwiches in. I can't remember what it's called, but it was heavy on the lemon juice and garlic, which paired really well with the pork in our sandwiches. This also added to the crave-ability factor, and I loved that. This restaurant is small, but very comfortable, very clean, and has a fun and vibrant atmosphere. It was a relaxing and delicious lunch. Prices were good too. I didn't have any leftovers, as my husband finished my sandwich, but we were both full when we left. Would I return? Yes! Definitely, yes. I love that I found an amazing small local business with delicious food and good prices to get an excellent lunch that will fill me up and keep me going all day, served in a warm and welcoming environment by people who care about their restaurant and customers. That isn't as easy to find as it once was. Review 31 of 2025.

My gorgeous wife and I, stopped here for dinner before an evening wedding. Wo both had the Pollo en la Plancha, two coladas and two jumps hard nectar to flush out down. The food we had was great, tasty and had good flavor. Make sure to get the yucca fries, best in Eugene. Andy and company did a great job in the service department. We both loved the ambiance with a phenomenalmural and plenty of pictures. It is as good as anywhere in the world. We are both fans of the Caribbean, Miami and the Latin culture and did extensive travels to those locations. We can only recommend the Havana Cafe. Give them a visit and let Havana Cafe transfer you to the Latin world.

This place has really tasty food and good service with a colorful and bright atmosphere. Their bowls are only $10 and you can get a tiny strong coffee for $1. If you haven't tried Cuban food yet you owe it to your tastebuds to give it a try next time you are in downtown Eugene.

The atmosphere here is a strong cuban influence with a colorful interior. The music, art, posters and menus all add to the effect of a cuban experience. Service is polite and friendly. The Cuban is served hot and crispy on a toasted bun. There is a generous portion of meat in this sandwich. This also comes with cheese, mayo and bread and is pressed panini style. The menu also mentions Potato Sticks. These are pretty tasty and look like miniature french fries. There are quite a few very different things on this menu that are intriguing such as plantains, Yuca Root, guava.. I will need to come back when I have more time and sample more of the offerings

We have loved Havana Cafe since they arrived in Eugene. Their Cuban sandwiches are super. We also really like stopping in for a grand cup of Cafe Leche. Very nice.

So, I really like Havana cafe! The food was delicious, cooked to perfection, and felt so homely and comforting. The prices are also quite reasonable! The plantain and picadillo empanada was my favorite. The service was kind and the interior is nice and spacious, so we had no problems getting a table here and getting our food in decent time.

This is a great little Cuban restaurant in downtown Eugene. The Andy's Original was delicious. They slow roasted the pork to perfection. The owners are nice and very welcoming and they are very hospitable. I would recommend this place to anyone.

When I tell you Havana Cafe is incredible, I really mean it. So, so, so tasty! This was my first time trying tostones and maduros and my life is now changed for the better. Paired with la medianoche (pork, ham, swiss, and mayo on sweet bread) and a fizzy drink, this meal hit the spot like you wouldn't believe. Service was great, friendly, and incredibly fast, considering we weren't the only ones at the restaurant and we ordered various items. Once our food was at our table, it was a treat to enjoy fried plantains for the first time among other delicious things. The portion sizes are very generous - after eating half of our appetizer, I could only eat half of my sandwich, so I took the other half home along with some of the remaining pik-nik potato sticks. It was enough to be a full meal in and of itself! The restaurant itself has beautiful decor - I love the wall with all the framed pictures. The staff also keeps everything very clean and bright. I can't wait to come back and explore more of the menu!

My favorite spot to eat in Eugene ! Everything that we try at Havana Cafe is genuinely so delicious with real authentic flavor that you can taste in every bite. The Fried plantains are amazing and the flavors in the cuban sandwich are unreal. The Croquetas De Jamon Y Papa are a must grab for dessert everytime we go!! They have dominos on the tables that you can play which was a fun way to pass some time while waiting for our food or just looking at all the different posters on the walls about cuba. The owner is the kindest man that you can tell puts in maximum effort into his work. Each time we go he is there at the counter to greet us and make us feel so welcome giving tips on how to reheat the food, really truly going above and beyond. This is a business that definitely deserves the recognition! Must Try!!

Simply amazing! Happened upon this restaurant on our way to other restaurant. Spectacular hospitality, deliciously spiced Cuban comfort food. The citrus really came through on the chicken, and the plantains (Maduros) were perfect. I'm super picky about black beans and these hit the spot! Will come back every time I'm in Eugene!

I liked the service and atmosphere. I asked to order the 1 thing I should order if I would never be able to return. Here it is.

The best coffee, best food and sweetest staff! I need to make a point to come here more often, the food is seasoned so well and I love a Cuban coffee. I'm not a huge eater so the portions are enough for plenty of leftovers no matter what order and I'm in love with the plantains.

Years ago when I was a student at the UofO there was a sandwich shop named Sam's to Go and it was…read moresomething of an institution. They opened a second location in what is now the ARBY'S on West 11th. Their bread was fresh and soft and withstood the topping piled onto their sandwiches. It was heaven and a sandwich was good to get you through two meals. Then they disappeared. Today my wife brought me home a sandwich from Subshop and it hit all the right notes! Fresh baked bread with a great flavor and structure that held together. I had the turkey sandwich and added avocado and bacon. They were very generous with both. Every bite had all of the ingredients and flavors and was perfectly balanced. While this was my first experience with Subshop it won't be my last!

What a weird, strange, surreal place. Went there a while…read moreback but the owner who just sort of hangs out there made fun a person ahead of me because they ordered a vegetarian sandwich. That's what I was going to order so I left. I recently gave them another shot and what a regret that was. Came in and the owners and their entire family were there ripping bags of chips, using foul language, talking about personal subjects not appropriate for a restaurant, etc. I felt like I was in their living room rather than a restaurant. Also, one of them kept on going in and out of the front door every 1-2 minutes wearing a hoody in a way that made me nervous like I need to keep a watchful eye. He was constantly engaging with all the "off" street people and even invited a homeless person inside to go through the garbage to collect recycling. All the while the owners are all there, chilling with their family, and not really caring about cultivating a comfortable environment for their dine in customers, I had enough. To add insult to injury, they got our order wrong. I got up, left, and will NEVER come back again. The worst dining experience of my life
